It’s not everyday I get a friend request on myspace from one of my favorite former porn stars, so when Julie sent me a request I was like awwwww yeah.  Julie was active in the adult industry from 98-04, and in my opinion is one of the most adorable porn stars ever.  She is writing now, and I think her stuff is really good and I don’t normally read blogs.  I encourage everyone to check them out at www.jadedandothergems.com and www.juliemeadows.com.

Not long ago, no more than a couple years.  It wasn’t really a conscious decision.  I’ve never met or talked to Luke

I know basically most people think he’s an asshole and from what I understand they have reason to think that.  I also understand he’s basically a good guy with problems.

What is it like to have a Wikipedia page?

Oh, it was weird, because I think Luke created it.  He asked questions that no one else had asked me.  The tell-tale quote was “my sister’s a bitch.”  Ha!  I hadn’t talked to anyone else about my sister.  And my memory for certain things is very good, so I know it was Luke.  If I’m wrong, just let me know

It could have been someone who wrote for him at the time but you know Luke was nice enough.  Like I said, he’s a bit confusing.  I no have no issues with him, never had.

What lead up to your decision to porn?  What’s the though process for a girl to be like, hey I’m just gonna go do porn?
 
Julie
Oh, I can tell you that.  A lot of things.  Well, I was taking acting classes anyway…then we moved to Vegas (my family and I) but I was supporting my family as a stripper and it was killing me.  I had already met a director in Texas…

Ok one sec.  Why did you become a stripper?
 
Julie
I was the sole breadwinner in my marriage in 1994 as a waitress, and it was supposed to be a temporary thing, but it didn’t pay very well.  I love dancing and a friend of mine said it was quite easy.  I am a rebel, anyway, so I ran with it.  The point was to make money while my artistic husband worked on his music.

Music was not good to him so stripping turned into a fiver-year-long ordeal

Is he good at music?
 
Julie
Yes, great, but his luck was not so great.  Other musicians are very unreliable.  Everything he worked towards fell apart…it left me still holding the bag.  Then came acting, LA, the possibility that he could pursue music in a larger arena.  Again, acting was going to be temporary, but I already enjoyed being independent.  It was not good for our marriage

So after you met the director in TX what happened?
 
Julie
Nothing for six months, I didn’t want to get into porn.  I was taking acting classes to be a "regular" actress, but after moving to Vegas my thought process was, "I’m going to die a stripper, miserable, with nothing to show for it but bad knees and sagging tits.  I might as well put on some armor and rush into something new with everything I’ve got, and to hell with what people think."

You didn’t have more apprehension than that?
 
Julie
Of course I did, but I also thought maybe I wasn’t looking at the lighter side of it.  I didn’t know anything about porn, so I thought maybe it would turn out to be a great industry full of people who worship and appreciate women.  I didn’t know that it is full of angry men who really hate women.  It’s funny because I just posted a blog this morning about that very thing.  I posted it at www.juliemeadows.com/blog.

I wrote about one of the worst people in the industry.  That’s part why I blog now.  I’ve led an interesting life.  It’s cathartic to write about the incredibleness of it.

I read that I wanted to ask you that.  Was that in the bio?
 
Julie
Yes, very good.  I think so but there are a few elusive things in the bio.

You describe what’s basically a sexual assault.
 
Julie
Oh, no.  That was a scene with Bobby Vitale for Vivid.
 
Al
Right, I had read that.  Being completely objective and only hearing one side of the story I wanted to ask, if what you describe is common, and is it more common when you started than now?
 
Julie
No, it wasn’t common at all, the only assault in six years, but I wonder if you know that I don’t do scenes anymore?  I haven’t done sex scenes in four or five years.

I do know that.  I didn’t know if you had insight into what happens now
 
Julie
I don’t know what is common in the industry now.  I have a friend who just got back into the industry and she said it is very different but I haven’t had a chance to sit down and talk to her at length.  She’s my best friend, Chloe.

Yes…great voice.  Well, getting back to the treatment, I’m sure there is a lot of opportunity for girls to get assaulted.  I met quite a few creeps, but knew when to back out of a situation.

What I always loved about you was that you had that genuine sweetness factor, that southern belle shit, and your high pitched oooooos.  We have a lot of girls in NY, but we don’t have any southern belles

Cool, I don’ think anyone has ever point out the "high-pitched ooo’s" before. Oh yes, NY probably kicks them out.

Did going into porn make you a freak, or were you a freak and that’s why it was easier to get in or are you still not a freak?  I read you were a swinger.

I am a freak as far as my curiosities, but not a sexual freak.  I’m an Aquarian, so I am naturally off kilter a bit.  I always will be, but it just makes me lean towards artistic things.  I don’t have a kinky sexual side boring, I know.

You were never a swinger though?  I thought I read that in Luke’s interview.

Nope.  A swinger?  I’ve never said that, but he did interview me and Ava Vincent at the same time.  Maybe it was an accident.  I’m not against it, but it’s not my style

You were talking about the worst person in porn before, who were you referring to?
 
Julie
Max Hardcore.  He was the worst, in my experience, at the time.  The worst director

I don’t know.  I don’t know the details.  I read he sold porn illegally?  What do you think?

I’m not the most knowledgeable about it, but they’ve talked about it extensively on LIB.
I think if people are willing participants to things, it’s hard to blame someone else.  From what I know, he’s a complete scumbag but I don’t know enough about him getting locked to know if he deserved to be locked up.

Right.  I don’t know how that works, but they said he was also convicted of selling porn illegally in the state of Florida.  He’s a horrible person.

I can’t begin to understand guys like that.

I don’t either.  I don’t like prejudiced people who take out their anger on "weaker" people, be it women, children and animals.  It breaks my heart, really.  I don’t think someone not doing something illegal should get put away though.  I will have to read more about so-called obscenity laws. Isn’t Stagliano still up for a hearing on counts of obscenity?

Well it was killing me, prostitution mainly.  I met my husband, Doug, and he could see it in my eyes.  I stopped everything in May of 2005.  I’m too sensitive for prostitution.  It’s too personal.  There are a lot of hurt people in the world.

You mean the prostitution in making porn, or you also did escorting?
 
Julie
Escort work, from the end of 2003 until May of 2005.

Why do you think a lot of girls don’t like to admit they do or have done that?
 
Julie
 
Because it’s illegal.

You think because they might think it hurts the porn they do?
 
Julie
No well…depends on the girl.  A girl that thinks she is too high class for that wouldn’t say she does it.

You think some girls only do porn to make more money escorting?
 
Julie
I wouldn’t think so…I would think it’s because they want to be famous, but it is true that it makes the money insane once people know you from movie-making.

It seems girls are hush hush about it, but the escorting is rampant.
 
Julie
Maybe they’re embarrassed.

That would be ironic though in my opinion.  I would think a public act is inherently more embarrassing than a private one

Me too!  But you’d be surprised how people think about things that seem simple to anyone else.

I have nothing against prostitutes.  I’ve patronized before
 
Julie
I don’t know.  I won’t speak for anyone, I guess.  I had no qualms about talking about it, but it is illegal, and honestly, if someone is doing escort work, they may not want to announce to authorities that they do that.  I love prostitutes.  They are raw and honest and wonderfully funny.  More interesting than any other kind of women I’ve ever met.

I can’t say exactly the same.  I’ve always had a morbid curiosity with hookers though.
What about time is for companionship only and anything that happens is between consenting adults?

They are funny!  Well, they would be different with a john than they are just hanging out with their girlfriends.  They are funny!

Maybe the successful hookers are funny, but what about the ones that are messed up?
 
Julie
I find they have a biting sense of humor about what they do, but I find the morbid to be quite humorous.  I’m "zany" that way.  There are so many messed up people.  I still prefer people who know things about life over people who don’t.  They are more interesting, to me, anyway.  Gay men are hysterical.  They know all about pain and hardship.  People on the lower rungs of society – judged and pushed down – tend to have a wonderful sense of humor abut it.  I like most people, really.

That’s complicated… from my perspective your typical porn star escort who can make 1 or 2 thousand dollars an hour is not in the lower rungs of society though.  Judged, yes.

That’s what I meant.  I mean judged.  Many gay men roll in the dough.

My main thing is just hard for me to comprehend the lifestyle.

Well, most of these people enjoy it, so it’s a dream for them, I guess.

Like an easy way to make money.  How many women in porn you think really hate doing porn and it’s all an act?
 
Julie
Hate?  I don’t know.  I didn’t hate it.  I’m not sure.

How many really love doing it?  That’s their passion, that’s the only thing they want to do in life.
 
Julie
Most probably.  I am just guessing, but you know, I didn’t work with women, so I don’t have perspective on how many just did it for the money.  That was the impression I got from the women I met.

Didn’t you hang with the other girls though?
 
Julie
Just a few.  Chloe, Kylie, Renee LaRue, Shayla LaVeaux , Brittany Andrews.  That’s about it

No.  Anything I did that I didn’t like I stopped.  Just straight sex, but that’s me.  I’ve never been kinky or treated bad, so I never had a reason to like it?  I think that’s what I mean to say.  I’m not putting anyone down, I’m just very vanilla.

Strange, but I didn’t watch it all the way through.  Anything I happened to see was accidental.  I can’t watch myself have sex.  It’s too weird for me
