The Los Angeles County Democratic Party the largest local Democratic Party in the United States, has officially opposed Proposition 60, a statewide ballot initiative that would allow any resident of California to sue adult performers who make films where a condom isn’t visible. The LACDP joins the California Democratic Party, the San Francisco Democratic Party and numerous other political parties and local clubs in opposing the controversial measure.
“This endorsement is an important victory for adult performers, and the No on 60 campaign,” says Eric Paul Leue, Executive Director of the Free Speech Coalition. “Los Angeles County is the home for many in the adult performer community. Proposition 60 is a misleading, dangerous initiative that will result in adult performers being targeted and harassed by a digital mob. This is why thousands of adult performers and advocates, and even some of those who supported Los Angeles’ Measure B, have come out against Proposition 60.”
In addition to the California Democratic Party and LACDP, Proposition 60 has been opposed by the California Republican Party, the California Libertarian Party, the San Francisco Young Democrats, the Los Angeles Young Democrats, the Harvey Milk Democratic Club, Equality California, San Francisco Medical Society, AIDS Project LA, SF AIDS Foundation, the LA LGBT Center, the Transgender Law Center, and the performer group APAC (Adult Performer Advocacy Committee), among many others.
Over the past month, five of California’s largest papers have also asked voters to Vote No on 60.
