Palm Beach Gardens, FL (December 1st, 2011) – ICM Registry, the operator of the new .xxx top-level domain (TLD), announced today that it signed a major deal with Clips4Sale, the number one downloadable video clip site, for 30 premium adult-entertainment related domain names.
A spokesperson for Clips4Sale said, “With our current plan to significantly increase our market share, taking the opportunity to acquire highly visible domain names that specifically relate to our business was an obvious choice. These 30 new domains will enable us to be predominant in certain niches within .XXX as well as provide additional avenues to promote our producers and their content to a new audience.”
“We are delighted that Clips4Sale has decided to participate in the .xxx domain, they are one of the few companies able to compete against free and pirated content, primarily because of the uniqueness of their offering,” said ICM Registry sales director, Vaughn Liley. “Being able to prosper in the current economic climate speaks volumes about their business model as well as the popularity of user generated content. As an innovator and a company that thinks differently, Clips4Sale make an ideal business partner for .xxx.”
The all cash, $700,000 transaction includes one .xxx domain at $300,000 and two others at over $80,000 each. The $300,000 domain will join gay.xxx in the top 15 domain sales of the year. The new owners plan to reveal the names purchased when the sites launch early next year.
These purchases clearly mark the value of the new .xxx domain and serve as a strong endorsement from leading adult entertainment companies as to how and where they are investing for their future growth.
xxx is just pure extortion, plain and simple. There are some things done in the porn biz that real criminals and gangsters wouldnt do out of honor, like Roscoe/Patrick going after grandmothers for piracy while the German rapes his fellow porn purveyors. The government is the only one who would do something like xxx.
It saddens me that Neil would do this….I hate to dsay it but I hope he loses his ass on it and i expect he will.
Not only is it extortion its also going to be suicide. The porn companies are preparing to hang themselves and buying their own rope like clipsforsale is doing.
XXX may seem like a good idea but knowing how things in the real world work anyone with half a brain can see that down the road one day once all the porn sites are on .xxx someone will ban the whole .xxx in mass.

I hope Neil loses his ass on this. $300k for a domain name? This is 2011 and not 2001. Ask the guys that bought pets.com back in 2000 how that turned out for them.
There have been a lot of rumors over the past year about clip4sale. This decision however is enough to convince me to avoid them now at all costs.
I for one find myself joining in the group of webmasters who will be avoiding any company who makes the move to buy .xxx domains.
And in response to the blocking comment … there are already many countries who have blocked all .xxx domains and there are some rumblings in various states in the US mostly southern states considering similar legislation including Oklahoma, Utah and Florida.
Anyone who remembers the survey last year will recall these southern conservative states had the highest reports of porn usage. So if you want to discount large pockets of your consume base, guess that just shows how smart you are.
