I watched Gone With the Wind last night for the first & last time. I found Scarlett to be the kind of whining conniving drama queen I can’t stand in real life. I know its an American classic movie that is iconic. But I really don’t know why. I did watch the whole 5 hour drama. I was intrigued by the story background of southern folks living through the civil war. This is an aspect of history I did not think of before. But I didn’t identify with the characters. I found most of them to be extremely obnoxious and unbelievable. But it’s a movie, so it doesn’t have to be reality, it just has to be meaningful. It did keep me watching. I wanted to know what was going to happen. So the moviemakers did an amazing job keeping me interested. But in my opinion, the ending Sucked. It was a non-ending, making way for Gone with the Wind part 2? Can you imagine if you were in the theater watching the original, was it 4 hours long then?
I was born in South Carolina and my mother was so goddamn obsessed with this movie that her first two choice for my name were : Rhett Ashley and Ashley Cooper. True fucking story. Thankfully, my father stepped in and conviced her to go with a more traditional name steeped in French modified Germanics.
If I may derail a tad, if you’re looking for a film which still stands up from the Golden Age (more or less..), N.L, you could do a lot worse than ‘The Bad and The Beautiful’. It is well skill, innit?
And, can’t believe I didn’t mention this back at Halloween, or, indeed, if it even was mentioned, but Fritz Lang’s ‘M’ is also tits. Tho in a more German Expressionist way.

(NL-TY John- Your explanation is a good one) There are a few reasons for it’s position in cinema history.
1. The book from which the movie is based on was insanely popular. When it was annouced that the novel was becoming a film, people went batshit.
2. Much the visuals within became the templates for later films.
3. Scarlett was designed to be hated and pitied. She’s a brat who pissed away all that was important – only in the end realizing what she had. The ending has her getting her comeuppance. The woman had to learn the hard way… loss of her family home, loss of her lifestyle, loss of her child, loss of her friend and loss of her husband to FINALLY sink in what’s truely important. Woman found romance. Men found a parable, woman can be selfish and conniving creatures.
My favorite moment is when Mammy held Scarlett back when Ashley showed up. That took balls, a slave puting her master in place – bitch slapped her, ‘not your husband’.
It’s also remembered fondly for having great balance of romance, tragedy and humor.

We all know how successful Gene Ross is and that extremely informative website he runs.
Keep in mind that while Gene Ross was on Extreme Associates payroll he was well aware of how they were ripping talent off left and right. Adultfyi was on “our side” was their tag line which I found interesting.
AVN is shell of its former self but I’ve always found it to just above toilet paper.
I’ve talked to many adult video store owners and none have ever reported sales or rental numbers to any company much less AVN.
So where is AVN getting their sales or rentals figures from? There is no doubt there is a excel spreadsheet that calculates the number of Ad buys to how many videos sold or rented.
AVN is dead. Their new larger size format doesnt change anything. It just means more trees were felled to produce that worthless rag.

Luke Ford was hit or miss but when he was on he was outstanding, even when he was off he was entertaining.
Mike Albo was excellent as well, cynicism and a sharp wit served him quite well.
But nobody in porn is exactly Bob Woodward.
When AVN breaks a real story it will be for the first time. Mark, you should just report on the on set catering for the next big Vivid shoot you attend and not what is going on the set, maybe you would have reported on how great it is for talent to work for PT just like Momo said…oh wait, she said he was a whack job, here.

I knew a guy who submitted lists to AVN. He lives in my state and claims to run a bunch of stores out of Tennessee. He used to try and come in and ask me what my “top ten rentals” were. I made up a bullshit list on the spot, and sure enough, two issues later, there was my bullshit list submitted under his name. So yeah, the list can be bullshit, but al least some are actually user-submitted.
Oh, and by the way, AVN sux.
