NL-Our Spanish reader, Rob tells me about a new article in his paper in Spain and translates it for us.
Well, there are not many news about the Pablo Lapiedra (ex-Lupe’s husband); just, last monday the 28th the judge that is reviewing the case decided to keep Lapiedra into jail where he has to wait if finnally the colombian authorities decide to ask to extradite him. Colombia has now 30 days to bring up evidences and then the spanish judge has to decide if it’s enough to extradite him to Colombia. That would be the worst scenario for Lapiedra cause while in Spain, if he is declared guilty he would be in prison for a maximum of 5 years, in Colombia he would be between 8 or 12 years.
Lapiedra says he is innocent. That he was tricked by the 16 year old girl who gave him a false ID.
No word on Lupe…

Jeremy, how did you start practicing Qi’Gong? Did you start with the Wu Chi and the Tree Posture? I really need to try something because I’d really like to relax. Does the time you practice matter? I read in a book that 6AM is the best time.
My dad’s been into the Maharishi’s “Transcendental Meditation” (TM) since around the same time The Beatles were following him around. He still meditates, and finally got me to get “initiated” when I was in Syosset High School. I told my best friend about it and he wanted to learn it as well, where I was more-so doing it to appease my dad.
This was around 1985, and the cost of the first level initiation was $1,000 then. My dad paid for it, of course. Me and Mel (my friend’s nick name) attended classes together of a woman I knew (she was friends with my dad), and she repeated each time this silly lesson about reaching a deeper state of silence by repeating a mantra over and over and over and over while sitting in the lotus position. She explain that by repeating the magic matra word you would get to that state of meditation. She told us that we would each individually get our own unique mantra that no one else in the world will have except maybe someone on the other side of the world. She said not to tell anyone else the mantra or it will lose it potency. She would repeat the same lesson everytime, all I can remember was this drawing of bubbles on a markerboard, each which got smaller below the one above it, the smallest one supposed to represent that state of TM. She explained that when 5,000 people meditate under a dome in Faifield, Iowa all at once that stocks go up, crime goes down, etc. I asked our initiator why
charge $1,000 (a lot of money back then) for something versus giving it away, since its supposedly necessary to save the world and she said that that’s what the Maharashi said. I insisted that’s not really a reason and then she said its “to feed the meditators”. At one point I asked my friend Mel to tell me how many syllables are in his mantra, but not to dare tell me the magic mantra, and he told me two. Then I said, “What would you say is the last letter of the mantra?” And soon I discovered that we both had the same exact mantra, so she lied to us. Later I would relunctantly pick up a copy of “The Rajneesh Bible Volume 1”, because I found it both illuminating and very entertaining, and I gravitated towards his style which is called “Dynamic Meditation”. He sees the need for the western mind to do crazy cathartic things like yell, jump about BEFORE meditating, so that the mind becomes silent naturally instead of trying to force silence by steamrolling a mantra over your own thoughts. I have no method of meditation except sitting in silence, touching thumbs to to index fingers in lotus-like position. I simply observe my thoughts and become a third party to them. At that point, being removed from thoughts I reach that state of silence aka meditation, and I always feel a profound power/energy. You do not need to pay anyone or subscribe to any specific style. It’s free and easy, although free stands against TM and other methods which make a living off a continual subservience to their ongoing “methods”. I think the TM method is repressive and unnatural but that’s what my dad still does to this day every morning.
I hope he gets some Chocoanos, Costeños or Caleños (who tend to be black) as cellmates and not a tinny dicked paisa.
