AVNAwards.com says – In order to be eligible for a 2011 award nomination, a movie must be in release by Sept. 30th to qualify. Titles must be in stock with either 10 wholesale distributors or 100 retail stores. The eligibility period includes movies released between Oct. 1, 2009 and Sept. 30, 2010.
NL-AVN is gathering their pre-nominations to begin the arduous task of narrowing the field down to a semi manageable 15 or less entrees per category. I have to go thru my own reviews and those of my writers to see who we want to submit as our pre-noms. Feel free to leave your suggestions in comments.
I’m looking forward to my porn fest. I spend lots of hours screening or rescreening movies to see who really deserves my vote. And I do take the whole thing seriously. Although rumors always fly around about advertising dollars & politics buying awards, I can only go by my experience. I have found that in the several years that I have voted for the awards my picks score awards about 70% of the time and that’s pretty good odds.
Unlike many vocal "porn editorialists" I do think awards are important and do help careers and companies. While who wins each individual award what may not be perfect, in the overall big picture the cream does rise to the top as shown by the many success stories.
So which movies and stars will take home the gold in January this year? I have some early favs in mind… How about you?

WOW this time already again UGH….
I hope Nikki Benz get some nom’s this year she had an amazing scnee with Rocco, all over traveling and promoting AND some great internet scenes. GO NIKKI
Male Performer I am rooting for Dance Cross or CJ Wright!
CJ is straight, hon.
pls delete above comment–that was just plain mean
.. and the award goes to….
My Left Hand!
AVN = Aint Viewing Negros
honky
Funny negros goes to moderation and honky does not.. how about cracker
Wendy I am enthralled with your enthusiasm but really .. can we have someone who companies haven’t paid to have win actually win this year.. I think there should be a award for the girl that has to sit in the make-up chair the least amount of time.. bet she would be Asian!!!
I mean come on.. don’t you think the peeps you mentioned have got enough of the Awards, money, contracts, publicity, fame, and work ???? I mean really contrary to opinion these folks don’t make the industry or world spin. They are who they are out of hap chance and luck and very white company owners.. let the people choose who gets promoted …
I bet you it would not be her or him.. i bet it would be a girl 10 times hotter (no make-up required) and a guy with a much larger cock.. these are the “WHITE” performers the studios chose, and put money behind and therefore are in the public eye..
Do you have any clue how annoying it is to see a white person every damn time the news is interviewing someone about porn ??? fuck put a black person on there that aint lex sean or marcus and get the fucin truth…
PORN is fucked up and racist !!!
that’s the fuckin truth… minus sean lex and marcus, there aint ONE fuckin black male making 7k a month right now… I guarantee you there are at least 10 white males making that easy.. I know three that are contracted for more then that..
Try to remember when being a Tranny was not accepted at all by the industry and then try to remember what it felt like. Now try to remember what you felt like when people rooted for the cats that tried to keep you down..
Now you know why i just wrote this…
minus CJ he has won but only small shit as far as awards are concerned… and no .. LOL no studios paid for that one.. LOL
Justin, are you saying that Lexington Steele, Mr. Marcus, or Sean Micheals are somehow less black than the rest of the pack? As far as those being approached by the media more, isn’t that a chicken and egg matter (they are well known outside of urban titles alone)?
Without dissecting your comments too much, there are a variety of urban/IR awards where the winners are always black, blacks win generic awards all the time, and the people most certainly have a say in who wins various awards (not just limited to AVN) because sales have long been a factor in who won (just not the only factor).
Men aren’t generally under exclusive contracts these days so exactly how do you think these studios you hate so much are involved in selecting winners for any of the awards? Why would they care if it was Lex, Marcus, Meat Manly, or some other meat puppet?
Cindi is one of the select few AVN voters you can interact with online yet instead of suggesting particular titles of worthy movies, particular performances you thought were the best (not just based on size alone), or particular talent, you rant that the system is fixed across the board. Wouldn’t it at least have made sense to make a few suggestions to her and others involved in the process so they could conceivably go out of their way to look into them?
Just a suggestion…
Houston ===
Lex sean and marcus are all very much black and in fact more black then me.. the point was that they do not see the industry the same as they are not in the same position as the rest of the black talent. In fact far from.
I would also suggest you look back as it wasn’t even three four years ago AVN fired an exec. and named reasons as selling AVN’s and accepting sexual favors for AVN awards .. I know for fact noms and awards are still givin for return in advertising in AVN magazine…
Pay attention to twitter and you’ll see that Cindi and I no longer see eye to eye.. she tried to out that i have done some IR scenes as of Late but I had told her in strict confidence and as soon as she didn’t agree with me attacking one of her IR dodging friends she used the private information I had confided in her.
now I’m not a journalist but that seems like some pretty shitty journalism etiquette to me. I have told all my fans so Blah be the word LOL .. but needless to say this will be my last post on this snake in the grasses website..
So to clarify .. marcus lex and sean are very much black and fuck AVN and cindi
Justin,
that she “outed” you for doing IR scenes after the big stink you made saying you’d never do one again might be in poor taste but frankly, unless they were shot for a private collector, they would have come out in time anyway. When you made it an issue with whatever “IR dodger” she favored, didn’t you open the door for that response?
As far as the three listed men, of course they see things differently than those lower on the totem pole of porn. They are considered highly successful, have earned numerous accolades, and have paid their dues over years of putting up with BS that I’m not sure you realize (from losing companies to getting screwed on distribution deals, etc.). Can you name five other black males that are better performers, have as lengthy a track record, and have built as many bridges both in and out of porn?
The AVN issue wasn’t about selling awards, it was about giving additional coverage to the performer, her suggestion that it was more than that never proven. That the publisher dealt with it quickly, publicly, and with such finality is a lot better than most companies would have done. As far as noms and awards given in relation to advertising dollars, keep in mind that companies can pre-nom their own works for free.
As far as the belief that advertising buys awards, I would suggest that you look at all the top title winners from years past and compare them to the nominees. Certain companies that advertise heavily lose far more than they should if money is the sole factor. Even then, my original point about males (of any color) being financially championed by companies to win as was suggested stands. Guys that are in a ton of movies, preferably in top selling genres, and give good performances are not competing against those propped up by companies that I can see.
Per AVN’s latest article on the matter, there are around 40 judges split about half and half from staffers at AVN to outsiders such as Cindi and Roger. I don’t even get the magazine so I couldn’t vote by advertising dollar even if I wanted to. I know each judge will have seen different movies so their votes will differ on that as much as having different tastes (for example, I thought “This Ain’t Avatar XXX” was crap, “Body Heat” was a marginal flick, and so on). If there is a bias against blacks going on, it isn’t with anyone I know and I’ve been around for some time now…
Feel free to email me if you are interested in discussing any of this further.
WOW Justin I only based my favorites on what Ive seen them accomplish not only ON film (actually seen the porn) but also the impact they made via social networks, events, ETC I really didnt pay attention to color of skin or some deeper issue.
I understand somewhat of your issues however Transsexual Porn is years behind INterracail porn STILL. I am still not seen as an equal or as a Performer I would be able to collect my award ON stage (which we dont) however the female and male winners do. I never won a anything from imlive ETC Get my point? However to change those things I continue to work hard making sure that our genre in seen in a good light and not bitching about the things that are wrong. I am active with many of the voters, AVN Staff, reviewers. I attend events and try and keep my networking not only for myself but for my genre as a whole. I hope with being VISABLE that I can make it easier for the next generation to be more visable. So yes I totally understand but I choose to do something about it then bitch about it.
Speaking of Interracial LOL…….Anyone who is a voter and or reviewer want a copy of my DVD “Interracial Tgirl Sex” let me know I am hoping it gets a prenom and WINS….(shameless plug)
