Internext Dies, and The AVN Show is Born…

The AVN Show 2010
Thursday, August 5 To Saturday, August 8
Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, FL

From AVN:
It has been under wraps for months and the subject of endless speculation. Now, as the buzz within the adult entertainment community reaches critical mass, AVN has announced its launch of a completely new industry event called The AVN Show, slated to debut in August at the Westin Diplomat Resort & Spa in Hollywood, Fla.

Scheduled around the same time that AVN’s Internext summer show usually takes place, The AVN Show promises to offer its attendees something totally unique and very different than any other industry show.

"Our goal was to create a totally new and revolutionary B2B interactive experience," said Darren Roberts, chief executive officer of AVN Media Network. ‘The AVN Show will focus efforts on education, information, networking, and preparing your business for the future.’

With the industry changing so rapidly, The AVN Show is a much needed tool that promises to deliver a maximum return on time and investment. In many ways, the new show reflects the consolidation of AVN’s magazines into one publication late last year, and is yet another nod towards the core belief that once-disparate facets of the adult industry are coming together – and have much to gain from each other. Although some of the agenda may be new to the adult industry, traditional selling and buying elements such as an exhibit hall, technology suites and exhibit cabanas will remain intact.

The AVN Show will cater to all market segments equally, but each with a unique twist. Traditional sectors such as content and production, novelty manufacturing and sales, and internet commerce will be joined by product distribution, retailer concerns and emerging technologies.

The AVN Show will take place Aug. 5-8 at the Westin Diplomat Resort in Hollywood, Fla., and will occupy the entire venue for the duration. Without tourists and other curiosity seekers on the property, the mood is one of pure business, yet in a relaxed and inviting environment. AVN expects over 2,000 participants and 200+ exhibitors at the ground-breaking debut show.

‘The AVN Show is a revolutionary business-to-business expo that is more than just a well-organized series of events. The AVN Show is about people,’ Roberts said. ‘The community of which we are a part is precisely what powers this industry and what drives our business forward. More than ever before, our industry needs a place to come together in order to share, communicate, inspire and lead the way into the future. The AVN Show is not simply an event, it is an experience.’

This is a good one. The reason this is happening is because the biggest novelty manufacturers kicked AVN’s parasitic ass to the curb. They are doing the ANE show without AVN involved, and I must say they are doing it better. The four major company’s TOPCO, DOC JOHNSON, CAL EXOTICS and PIPE DREAMS collectively told AVN last year to go pound sand. They were done with AVN”S practice of turning a business convention into a self serving, gouging event. It was funny last year when buyers were turned away from lunch because AVN did not pay for enough food.Just one folly after another. That is why the LasVegas Jan. show is a mere shell of what is used to be. Why would a company pay tens of thousands of dollars to do a business trade show that does not cater to real buyers? AVN’s magazine is just the equivalent to the crappy value pack coupon book you get in the mail. Nothing but lame ego driven adds. Most store owners and buyers don’t waist their time looking at it. The only ones who read it are the lames getting ripped off advertising in it. Along with the talent that rotates out every five years or so. The ANE show is all about business and no fans or video yahoos aloud. See that way people who pay a shit load of money to attend a business convention get to real do business. Company owners don’t need the flea market atmosphere that AVN has provided in its recent past. We skipped the last two AVN shows in Vegas for the first time since its inception. Guess what we did just fine as many others have. In closing lets think about this. All the manufactures are here in the valley. So lets have a trade show one month after a major novelty trade show has just taken place here in LA. and go across the country. The expense of this outrageous. If you are a business owner you know what I mean. I don’t see how you can sell buyers the same merchandise that you sold them last month. Don’t believe the AVN hype.

*Something totally unique and different*, like what exactly; sacrificial ceremonies? Seriously, sooner or later AVN parasites must wake up and smell the ashes and realize it’s not 1995 anymore. In this digital age nobody needs to pay them for advertisement in their jerk off excuse for a magazine, and their pathetic plastic trophies they call awards amount to nothing. Give it another 18 to 24 months, and you’ll see Paul Fishbein and Co. wondering in Chastworth streets with a *Will clean your office for food* sign in their hands.

Colonel you are so right. The only trade show we are doing is ANE founders. Between the lame ass Expo Marks, La. Erotica (which hasn’t been relevant since Don Hollywood sold it to AVN). Oh, how about these stupid Erotica Miami, Erotica Chicago, and the real dogged out loser show, Erotica New Jersey. Like anyone who is running a real business has time to waste at these do nothing shows…Did you read what I posted about Digital Play Ground’s lame ass novelties? Let me know what you think on that subject.

  4. Actually, Erotica NY located in Jersey is pretty cool, seems like plenty of people were making $ there. who knows. It’s kinda fun to attend and packed full of eye candy is all I’m saying.

Yes Joe, I red your recent comments on Digital Playground novelties and adult conventions; and I have to say you’re spot on, my friend. As you noted, the fact that Digital Playground are making these cheap, lame attempts at over saturating the novelty market is a clear indication of how clueless and frustrated they are. Selling sex toys might be a profitable business, but for the past 2 decades it has been exclusive to only a handful of companies, the most successful of them Doc Johnson. People whether consumers or retail owners know and trust these brands. That’s the fact; and Digital Playground’s vibrators covered in plastic jewels, wrapped in cheap boxes are not going to change that fact anytime soon. But let them jerk themselves off and keep on wasting their money.

As for the conventions, they’re not beneficial for producers anymore. They have become a place where dofus, jerk off fanboys go to kiss their favorite porn whore’s ass and take pictures with them; and I’m not going to waste a dime on that shit.

  6. I may be muscling in on this discussion, but I didn’t pay a dime to get in so maybe that’s why I still think shows are worth checking out. Tho if I had to hawk lube and dildos for a living I might feell totally different. The adult industry like any other is a dog eat dog game all about money, only the strong survive these days. We all know that. Dis fanboys all you want like I tend to do but like em or not they keep the industry afloat. Some still make a living off this stuff, shameful as it may be, tho the freelance game is fading.

  7. The Colonel says:

Freelance game has been fading since the mid 2000’s; it was a bubble which started to grow by the late 90’s when cheap video cameras and editing and web site design softwares became available. The bubble started to burst around 2006 due to the over saturation of DVD market and increasing online piracy; and today there’s not much left of freelance game. However, freelancers were never a part of the adult conventions: They never paid to rent a booth and promote their product in the conventions. It was full time producers and established companies who paid the bill; and if they’re withdrawing from the conventions now, it’s because the conventions are no longer profitable. Attending the conventions don’t generate any kind of profits anymore, let alone increasing sales, and that’s the bottom line: From an investor point of view, you have to profit from your investment, whether it’s producing content, releasing DVD titles, manufacturing toys or paying $10,000+ to rent a booth at a convention. When you pay $10,000+ to run a booth for 3 days and you don’t even cover your cost, that’s when you have to stop. It’s all about the business.

  8. joe truth says:

It is only about the $$$ PERIOD! You correct colonel. These trade shows like AVN,Erotica whatever do not generate any $$$ anymore. They are total bull shit. The ANE novelty show is still viable. Because they exclude all the DVD dregs.

When will AVN go by by? I got so angry watch the AVN Awards seeing Fishbein up there on the podium on the red carpet with Jesse Jane and two other girls. Then I looked in the background and saw Monstar walking around with a head set on, I thought he was some big time PR guy and here he is directing traffic. I looked behind the girls at the line where the “media” and I think I saw maybe four or five groups. Nice to see Dave Navarro there too as a cohost of the pre-show, why doesnt he just start performing or making porn, not that anyone would pay to see it. Trade shows were last viable a decade ago, these days? Most stores still in business order stuff they know rents/sell, their AVN’s go right into the trash.

AVN will hang on, they have too much $$$.

ANE founders is a joke. Only a fool would bring his clients straight to the hand of his competitors.
