Jeremy Steele On “the Morons Who Pick the Oscars”

This would be part 2

Jeremy looks cuter when Lucky is in the picture, lol

More on the  morons who pick the Oscars, in History and Today:
OP/ED By Jeremy Steele

"Obscene, dirty and grotesque". These are the words Dustin Hoffman
once used to describe the Oscars. Twice he skipped the ceremony for his nominations
in 1969 (Midnight Cowboy) and 1974 (Lenny), although he would have a change
of heart, as he strode up to the podium he once cursed and accepted his Best Actor Oscar for Kramer vs. Kramer.

He even gave a goofy acceptance speech: "I’d like to thank my mother and father for not practicing
birth control," he gushed.

Here’s an anagram for: Academy Awards : A SCAM, ADD WEARY

Who the fuck are these pathetic assholes who pick the Oscar Winners, anyway?

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS),  maintains a voting membership of  over 5,800. Actors constitute the largest voting bloc, numbering 1,311 members (22 percent) of the Academy’s
composition. The Oscars are generally voted on by members of the entertainment industry; thus, important films that have had the most people working on them generally become nominated.

Director William Friedkin (of "The Exorcist"), an Oscar winner and producer of the Academy Awards, spoke critically of the awards at a conference in New York in 2009. He characterized the Academy Awards as "the greatest promotion scheme that any industry ever devised for itself".

The motion picture academy has a dark past which it constantly seems to over-compensate for. Thus it’s ugly past heeds only to an uglier, ever more muddled, present.
.
The hearing impaired were first recognized at the 1977 ceremony. As Debby Boone crooned her Oscar-nominated ballad, "You Light Up My Life," 11 fresh-faced "deaf" students signed beside her. But the production number proved more infuriating than inspiring. The next day, the papers reported that the kids weren’t deaf at all, and worse, their "signing" was mumbo-jumbo.

1977 was also the year that Annie Hall would win over Star Wars for Best Picture.

The Oscars are supposed to represent the pinnacle of dreams come true. However, the reality is usually something different. Acting prizes have often been criticized for not recognizing superior performances so much as being awarded for sentimental reasons, personal popularity, atonement for past mistakes, or presented as a "career honor" to recognize a distinguished nominee’s entire body of work; anything but simply picking the best damn movie.

And the dream that MLK Jr once had of man judging man based on the content of their character instead of the color of their skin, has been replaced by race-centric opportunistic hustlers crying "racism" every chance they can, seeing everything in terms of black and white. They are essentially guilty of the very things they accuse whites of, and that is being racist.

This year, When Mo’Nique began her acceptance speech for the best supporting actress Oscar with, "I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics."  In the next line of her speech: "I want to thank Miss Hattie McDaniel for enduring all that she had to, so that I would not have to. "

"Not the politics", my ass!  It’s ALL politics, Mo’nique, and politics in art accolades doesn’t serve your race; namely- the Human Race.

Mo’nique may have deserved to win based on her performance, but we may never know for sure thanks to the current trend of a pathetically obsequious academy to show how non-racist against blacks they ‘really" are.

Hattie McDaniel, who Mo’nique was referring to (for her role in "Gone With The Wind". She also made an appearance in "The Little Rascals") was not only the first African-American to win an Academy Award butthe first to be allowed into the ceremony in anything but a serving capacity — they stuck her at a table in the back. If she had wanted to launch a schmooze campaign for the Oscar she won in 1940, it would have been virtually impossible. She was barred from attending the "Gone With the Wind" premiere in Atlanta, because it would have been against Georgia law for her to sit in a theater with white people.

Several years ago, when Sidney Poitier was acknowledged for his achievements, Denzel Washington and Halle Berre won best Actor and Actress, respectively. There was talk about the "need" to name Washington Best Actor in part because he is an African American.

But, what about the need of just picking a winner, regardless of race politics? Is this not racism?

As of that year it had been 39 years since Sidney Poitier became the first African American male to win for a leading role, in Lilies of the Field.  Considering that blacks comprise about 13% of the U.S. population, It really seemed that it was "African American" night at the Oscars, that year.

Washington beat Russel Crow (A Beautiful Mind) as critics had decried Crowe’s generally roguish behavior of late, including a recent tangle with a BBC executive at an awards show, as reason enough not to vote for him.

Eddie Murphy once commented that at first he didn’t want to present Best Picture because of the lack of black actors winning Oscars. This year, "Precious" director Lee Daniels is only the second African American (after John Singleton) to be nominated, and as he said last Tuesday "I am the first African American to be nominated for a movie that was produced by an African American."

I’m glad the oscars now show how racist they aren’t any more (at all other races’expense). Next gays need to come out of the closet on stage and complain about why have gay themed movies not won? Estimates vary, but gays are considered to comprise between 5 to 10% of the population.

In 2006, MSNBC’s Erik Lundegaard wrote that giving the Best Picture Oscar to "Crash" instead of "Brokeback Mountain" amounted to the "worst Best Picture winner since ‘The Greatest Show on Earth.’", which is often ridiculed as the worst Oscar-winning Best Picture of all time. In 1952, "High Noon" was snubbed and the academy gave Best Picture Oscar to "The Greatest Show on Earth", Also, "Moulin Rouge" (the original starring Jose Ferrer) one of my favorite movies of that year was nominated but didn’t win.

But beyond race, nationality and sexual orientation, we have other major problems with the Academy. Along with great individual works, we have ENTIRE GENRES of films that get snubbed year after year.  If thesemovie genres were individual races there would be riots on the streets at this point in our history.

The Academy Awards have come under criticism for having a bias towards certain types of performances and film genres. The Best Picture prize has NEVER been given to a FILM NOIR, SCIENCE FICTION or an ANIMATED FILM; and rarely are horror, fantasy, comedy and westerns recognized by AMPAS.

In 1977, a revolutionary film called Star Wars lost the Oscar to Woody Allen’s Annie Hall. Was Annie Hall really a greater film than Star Wars? Where is Annie Hall’s long enduring cult following?  Why don’t we have Woody Allen and Mia Farrow action figures, along with his adopted daughter which kids can pretend to have him molest?

"It’s become much more than just about the performances and the pictures," said New York Post film critic Lou Lumenick. "It’s become a popularity contest, a spin-and-spend contest.""It is a political campaign," "There is no real difference between this and politics. The Academyis in serious need of campaign reform."

I swear to God, you White dudes cry more about reverse “racism” than Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton do about racism.

Every year 10,000 White people win and nobody says shit. The minute a few Black folks get nominated, then you guys start crying. Still there’s been 2 guys to win Best Actor, 1 to win Best Actress, and a few supporting nods and you act like they’re turning the Oscars into the damned Source Awards.

Please, Denzel deserved to win for Malcom X and nominated for “Philadelphia” and for “The Hurricane”, and they screwed him, but they finally decided to give it to him for “Training Day”, which was a great movie and he completely transformed from one of Hollywood’s good guys to it’s most despicable overnight in his character. Hollywood has often given overlooked actors and directors the nod as kind of a “Lifetime Achievement” award. They did the same thing to Marty Scorsese and when they finally decided to give it to Al Pacino . The Grammys and Emmys do it too.

People like Cicely Tyson and Angela Bassett have deserved all these awards for years, but due to Hollywood’s racism didn’t get the nod’s they deserved.

Where were you at when they were giving Cher an Oscar?

  2. Some people are so race centric. They have condemned themselves to a life baised on the very ideals that they claim to despise. Giving them a secrete weapon against anybody from a minority. So they can ram their aronius believes down our throats. Which is something every award show on T.V loves to do? Especially the Oscars. Society should base its opinions about any race on the worth of the people within that group. Many in society are very gullabal, so its not hard for mainstream media and T.V to brainwash the less intelligent members of those groups. Sophia Mounds.

  3. jeremiahsteele says:

I suspected you were Sophia Mounds when you first posted as Misty12, and was convinced even more while reading the above comment before noticing you signed your name at the end…

    Today’s English and Spelling lesson:

    “erroneous beliefs”, not “aronius believes”.

    “gullible”, not “gullabal”

    “based”, not “baised”

As usual, you cut sentences in half, capitalize the next half (ex/ “Which is something…”), and end sentences with a question mark when they are not questions.

I’m curious, why do you come on as a different name, but then end your post signing your real stage name?

    Bring back Wayne McDaniel.

    Thanks for your support.

  4. I lost my pass word, I used google to spell check, cause I couldnt find my dictionary. Hustler likes my site, and wants me to add a link. Cool. I wrote that in 15 – 20 minutes and am no english major, I got an A in logic, not English, and I totally suck at spelling. Tried everything to become a better at it, but I still try, and thats all anyone can do. I have to go to work, thanks for saying something that needed to be said. Peace out, Sophia.

    Hi “President4Life”. Thanks for commenting.

    You said:

“People like Cicely Tyson and Angela Bassett have deserved all these awards for years, but due to Hollywood’s racism didn’t get the nod’s they deserved”.

This is the EXACT point of my thesis. Due to “racism”, you’re saying they didn’t win? What gives you the right to say that it’s racism? You’ve just pulled an Al Sharpton. What about all the white people who didn’t win? Was it racism there?

My point is that the Academy picks winners for all sorts of fucked up reasons, and they’ve allowed those who cry “racism” when minorities don’t win to hustle wins for purely political reasons. Electing a winner who’s black because of these tactics is just as bad as not electing a winner because they are black.

Woody Allen, who’s “Annie Hall” won, has also refused to attend the Oscars. He said “If it were a special occasion or something, I might do it. But I’m not interested in an inanimate statuette of a little bald man. I like something with long, blond curls.”

All the people I’ve mentioned who have refused to attend the Oscars are WHITE. This whole thing is beyond just race, except for those who make race the central issue.

I’m curious “President4Life” why you picked that name. It suggests you have a fantasy of Obama as president for life.

Accusing someone of being racist is a really ugly thing, and no one has the right to just assume someone is racist soley because a minorty doesn’t win.

  6. jeremiahsteele says:

Also, I wrote how AMPAS gave Scorcese an Oscar for “The Departed” essentially as a lifetime achievement acknowledgement. He had made so many movies before, including some great ones which never won. The Departed won, not because it was the greatest movie that night or even of his career (certainly not), but because he’d never won, before, and that’s fucking bullshit; to whites, blacks, beiges, browns, yellows and pinks!

This is just as bad as race politics. It all helps to make the Oscars a sham, and explains why even many white people don’t go, including those who get nominated for top honors.

I totally agree that, as Mo’nique says, it should not be about politics. She mistakingly said it wasn’t, but, unfortunately, in ALL ways, it IS. And all ways, includes race politics.

I’m tired of politics. Politics is beyond bad enough in our government. Do we really need it in our Arts? Maybe I should write my conspiracy theory about that.

But whether or not you realize it, it seems Al Sharpton has you thinking like he wants you to.

Be more like a King, not a Sharpee. MLK was truly one of THE greatest people in history, American or otherwise (that’s why he was taken out). Sharpton, in my opinion, is a fair bit closer to being one of the worst (and that’s why he never will be).

    Sincerely, “White dude”.

  7. jeremiahsteele says:

I started watching Annie Hall again. Even though I still would’ve picked Star Wars for Best Picture, Annie Hall is definitely a hilarious masterpiece and one of my favorite movies. In many ways, it’s the exact opposite of Star Wars. The beginning of Star Wars is huge in terms of visuals and music even during the credits, whereas Annie Hall starts with absolute silence during the open credits, white lettering on black screen.

It’s too bad the Oscars can’t award ties and give the Best Picture to two or even more movies which are equally great but in different ways.

Anyway, the dialogue so far kind regarding this article kind of reminds me of this exchange in the movie:

    Woody’s character:
“The failure of the country to get behind New York City is anti-semitism”.

Friend: “That’s a very convenient out. Every time a group disagrees with you it’s antisemitism”

Woody: “Don’t you see the rest of the country looks upon New York like we’re left-wing, communist, Jewish, homosexual pornographers? I think of us that way sometimes and I live here”.

  8. Wow! Thank you Cindi and Jeremy.

I think that ethnic groups, nationalities, beliefs, preferences are only the very top of the iceberg. There’s so much that we cannot see at first sight. We need to dive into the problem and search for the causes.

Jeremy, what you do is extraordinary.

Wasn’t there a movie where the Holocaust was in doubt, meaning that maybe it was not true? Well, before I say I believe it or not, I will dive.

There in the bottom I face many questions: Where did The Furer get the oil from? How did he install the pipelines? Is there an interest to silence these questions and make us believe that nothing happened? How is Hollywood helping to change the History we all knew?

These are only questions. I have not the answers and I may be completely wrong. I wish with all my heart to be wrong.

  9. The Colonel says:

Star Wars movies, like James Bond movies, never won an Oscar for the best picture; but the effect they had and continue to have on cinema is far greater than any other Oscar winners. Not forget to mention *Cult Classics*, small budget productions that had never won any awards and were not even block busters; and yet over time had significant effects on cinema: Showgirls, The Big Lebowski, Night of the Living Dead, etc. It’s all part of the business of making movies: You have an idea, you invest on it and do the best you can; but you can never know for certain what will come of it and how it’ll be perceived.

  10. jeremiahsteele says:

Thx. I never heard any rational claims that the holocaust never happened. I know of at least a couple of books which claim the numbers that died were far lower; 40,000 instead of 6 million. I have no conclusions yet except to say 3,000 or 3 million is still a tragedy, regardless.

I find the subject the oscar’s political history fascinating, even while tragic. It says and connects to a lot of things.

The Oscars itself is worthy of a college course.

  11. Larry Horse says:

One Oscar Battle I remember was the year English Patient won over Fargo. Both had their pros and both had their cons. Fargo was typical Coen brothers, they jerk you off til you feel good and then they dont let you pop. Minghella wasted some time in his movie where he should have added some of the stuff that was cut. There are images in both movies that are stirring and startling, like Fargo’s foot in the shredder and Dafoe losing his thumbs in the English Patient. The English Patient won cause it looked like an epic movie, Fargo lost cause I think folks didnt get the humor…and it was short. Best Coen brothers movie in my opinion is “Miller’s Crossing”.

  12. jeremiahsteele says:

The Academy should call themselves “The OSCWHORES”.

I don’t know if any James Bond movies deserve to be Oscars. I did a survey once, and while Sean Connery and Pierce Bronson are the top two (the latter, a distant second), I found Roger Moore my favorite because for a good stint he was the most fun. Also the soundtracks; Barbara Bach, the chick from the Oley commercials, etc.

I was gonna write a long article about James Bond, including why I think the latest James Bonds, Casino Royale in particular, are the worst ones ever.

  13. President4Life says:

    Jeremy.

It was racism that for 80 years, no Black woman won a Best Actress Oscar.

First off, because Hollywood, and even most Whites in Hollywood will tell you this, has very few roles for minorities other than secondary roles. That limits the amount of minorities who were even considered top notch actors.

Second of all, the solid Black actors there were like Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, Cicely Tyson, Angela Bassett, Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, etc. . . generally were not considered Oscar Material in most of their works because they were often in “Black Movies”, which are not funded or produced by the big Hollywood Machine.

Third of all, What the fuck do you know about Martin Luther King? He called the American government the greatest terrorists in the world. He was not just the “I Have A Dream” guy as morons like yourself would have us believe. He was very much somebody who recognized the unfairness in the world

Fourth of all, ALL AWARDS SHOWS ARE POLITICAL!!!!

They gave Bob Dylan “Album of the Year” for a record that wasn’t even his best, because when he was young back in the ’60s, they were giving it to Barbara Streisand and Glen Campbell. Same thing with other artists like Santana, etc. . . .

The fact that you chose to make your issue a RACIAL issue, instead of just focusing on how much of a sham awards shows as a whole are says something.

So, like I said, how can you act like the Oscars are SOOOOO in the tank for Black people when only 3 Black Actors in history have won and 1 Black Actress has won? There’s only been a few Blacks nominated and this is the argument that you use to show that the Oscars are fucked up?

Your “Star Wars/Annie Hall” example was WAYYY more logical than using a few examples where Black actors who DESERVED their Oscars actually got them.

They’re not giving Oscars to The Wayans Brothers or something, they’ve mostly given them to established actors who have body of great work, so what’s the problem.

Like I said, where were you when they gave Cher a “Best Actress” Oscar? Was it “political correctness” then?

And no, my screenname has NOTHING to do with Obama whatsoever. I’m not Obama, so why would I name MYSELF President4Life for Obama?

President4Life is a term given to dictators like Castro, and Idi Amin, etc.

It’s a JOKE, nothing to do with who’s president.

  14. jeremiahsteele says:

Speaking of James Bond, I was gonna write an article about why the latest two Bonds, especially Casino Royale, are the worst Bonds ever.

I did a survey once and Sean, Connery of course is considered the favorite Bond, Brosnon was a distant second (I’d put him second to last, in front of the current Bond). My personal favorite (I’m not gay or a woman so I’m not so affected by Connery’s charm) is Roger Moore, because those Bonds were the most fun, tounge n’ cheek, had the best soundtracks, gadgets, philanderous behavior and some good bad guys.

I’d never consider Bond films as Oscar contenders, though. How many times can Bond always avoid even getting nicked by multiple machine gun fire and all that?

I’m still amazed on the amount of 5 star reviews amazon reviwers gave Casino Royale. I could write a very long article just on that movie.

  15. jeremiahsteele says:

it seems my comments are not going through now…

  16. jeremiahsteele says:

I bring up the racial politics President because, as you’ve pointed out, it’s all political, and thus, this takes away from the value of them winning the awards.

Yes, racism has existed and still exists, but you have no right to say that a particular modern day performer didn’t win because of racism. There are many good actors out there who never win or are even nominated of every race.

I never suggested that those blacks who won the Oscars didn’t deserve to win them. But it was reported that there was talk of the NEED to give Denzel the Oscar, in part because he’s black. Do you think there’s something wrong with that statement?

Again, this kind of talk takes away from the value of winning that award.

I was very happy when I saw Halle Berry’s reaction when she got on stage, crying. You can see how much it meant to her. That really was a wonderful moment.
To other people, the Oscars are just bullshit and they don’t even attend, or when they win they give a relatively non-chalant acceptance speech. You could see the truth of how hard she worked and what it meant to her and again that was what made that moment beautiful.

It’s not a black or white issue.

Spike Lee recently derided Clint Eastwood for not having blacks in his war movie and Clint said he should “shut his face”. I agree. I don’t think Clint is a racist. Spike’s production company, titled “40 acres and a mule” seems to have to always make race the central issue. I think this stems from his personal self-esteem issues, which he projects on other people while assuming everyone’s racist. Meanwhile, hypocritically, Spike currently is working on an all black war movie. I guess that’s what you call preaching by example.

It would be like me, because I’m shorter than the average guy, assuming that all women who aren’t being super nice to me or who are ignoring me as hating me because I’m short. That’s called a fucking complex. I’m not gonna blame or accuse every woman of being a cunt to runts because some women are.

I knew this would be a touchy subject but I felt it was good to bring up. And if there is something wrong with my thinking I would love to know about it, so I can learn something and be a better person. Therefore I speak my mind.

Sorry for offending you, but you got me wrong, TOTALLY WRONG, if you think I’m some kind of fuckin’ racist.

I’m extremely offended by people who are disrespected unfairly for idiotic, superficial reasons, like age, looks, height, race, religion, nationality, disability, etc.

If I were handicapped and was nominted for best actor and I heard that the academy were thinking of giving me the Oscar because of my handicap, I WOULD BE PISSED OFF!

So should you be, President. Not at me. AT THEM!

And to answer your question about Cher. Yeah, maybe so. So?

  17. jeremiahsteele says:

    Also President, you wrote:

“Third of all, What the fuck do you know about Martin Luther King? He called the American government the greatest terrorists in the world. He was not just the “I Have A Dream” guy as morons like yourself would have us believe. He was very much somebody who recognized the unfairness in the world”

I think I know of King rather well. Don’t assume I don’t. He certainly recognized the unfairness in the world, and not with just blacks like some current black leaders (I’m not referring to Obama, btw).

He was a great man who was leading a change, a great integration of hearts and minds, skin color as relevant as hair color.

Haven’t you noticed that all the truly good leaders or would be leaders are killed? I have, so again. I think I know King, rather well.

I also agree that we are the #1 terrorists in the world.

  18. jeremiahsteele says:

Also, are you sure Sean Penn’s performance in “I Am Sam” was not as good or better than Washington’s in “Training Day”?

And if I thought Penn’s was better, I assure you it had nothing to with race.

Also, Penn has been known to be politically incorrect.

  19. Larry Horse says:

I thought Casino Royale was a damn good movie, Bond was back to being the thug he was in Dr No. Paul Haggis(Crash) co-wrote the screenplay which helped. I didnt like Quantam of Solace as much, though Mathieu Amalric was a first rate Bond villian. My favorite three Bond films are Diamonds are Forever, License to Kill and the aforementioned Casino Royale. Of course the first two are the funniest.

  20. As a huge James Bond fan I have to agree, the movie are a lot of fun to watch. But they are not Oscar material. My favorite three Bond movies would be Casino Royale and Diamonds are forever too, but I would prefere The Man with the Golden Gun instead of License to kill. And Quantum of Solace was actually pretty lame.

  21. jeremiahsteele says:

    Ugh Larry, Regarding Casino

Before seeing the movie, I had hopefully anticipated the new Bond to be better than the last. The looks of him suggested a Bond more gritty, physical and down to Earth.

After watching it, However, I was like “Holy Shit” for several reasons.

It starts off with some bad guy who was selling secrets who Bond is waiting for. Bad guy notices Bond already went through his cabinent of documents, sits at a desk n front of a drawer which he opens to
    a gun in it.

Ok, already can’t we figure out what’s gonna
happen considering that Bond snuck into the room and thus must’ve already prepared for the bad guy’s suprise?

Ok, no big deal, so far, I guess.

I’ve watched and rewatched the first few minutes of Casino Royale again and again to try and figure out why Bond blows the guy away.

Right before Bond inexplicably shoots the Bad guy,
Bad guy says “Well, you needn’t worry… Second is”…

Then Bond shoots him and says “Yes… Considerably”.

I’m like WTF? Why did he just shoot him?

Needn’t worry about what? Second what is what?….

Then bad guy asks about some other bad guy that Bond had fought in a men’s room, and asks “How did he die”, to which Bond replies, “Not well”.

Wait a minute! This is just after the bad guy
says Bond has no Double O status and that his record shows No kills. (and one “takes”. What does that mean?)

Without analyzing the next scene in too much detail, the next scene is even more absurd. The guy Bond is chasing is amazingly fast and agile, the chase is long, but neither never slows down andd Of course Bond catches up to him. There’s this ridiculous and impossible consruction
crane chase scene, impossible to climb and jump, as shown. Of course the guy Bond is chasing gun runs out of bullets justas he tries to shoot Bond.

Bond had said to his idiotic partner “I need him alive” but when Bond finally catches him he inexplicably shoots the guy (just like the first bad guy). There was no sense or need to do that for Bond to get away. And this is after a completely
impossible scenario where Bond is caught by a squad of men with machine guns surrounding and pointing right at him. Bond shoots the guy he had earlier just said needs to stay alive and then
shoots a gas tank which blows up, knocking the other gun men down and allowing Bond to escape. This is so fucking stupid. Bond would’ve been blown away before he had the chance to shoot the guy, let alone the gas tank, right afterwards.

And Daniel craig who’s got the charisma of a toad. makes me wonder what makes that that woman (Le Chiffe’s girl)attracted to him, although she’s not the best or most interesting Bond girl, so maybe she’s desperate. But there’s absolutely no chemistry whatsoever…

How far do you have to suspend any belief in reality and sensible plot to be entertained, Larry?

I can go on and on about this movie… maybe later…

  22. jeremiahsteele says:

I did enjoy Licence to Kill. I don’t think it was the best Bond but I liked aspects of it, including the supporting characters and the “spiritual” meditation front. I don’t think Talisa Soto was that interesting, though. Unfortunately, that was Timothy Dalton’s last of only two Bond movies. I only say, “unfortunately” because he was followed by Pierce, who seemed too soft to me. I would’ve preferred they stayed with Dalton, and I thought they would considering the second movie was better than the first. Licence (spelled the British, not American way) to Kill borrowed from my favorite flick from 1981, The Road Warrior, with the big oil tanker chase scene, although it was a bit silly when a missle is fired at it and Bond steers the rig to a sideways wheely to avoid it. But, hey, that’s James Bond for ya.

But getting back to Denzel, reconsidering that The academy was supposedly talking about the “need” to give the oscar to him because he’s black (which I find offensive, irrelevant to how dark or pale my skin is) and considering that he supposedly out acted Sean Penn in “I am Sam” (who’s has some problems with the media and is also controversial visiting Iraq and being anti-Bush), I think that Sean should have deinitely won. Call me racist for saying that and I’ll call you an idiot. Maybe you haven’t seen that movie.

I’m gonna go tan now because I’m too white.

  23. President4Life says:

They gave it to Denzel because they had screwed him 4 TIMES ALREADY!!!! It doesn’t matter whether he got screwed because he was Black or because The Oscars screw people. HE GOT SCREWED!!!

Most award shows have a history of giving a guy a “Lifetime Achievement” award after years of overlooking somebody

They screwed Pacino and finally gave it to him for “Scent of a Woman” in ’92. They screwed Scorsese for years and finally gave it to him for “The Departed”. They always do this. What’s the difference?

That’s my point. Why is it that only when the Black actors start winning is it a problem?

And how the hell is Sean Penn doing the easy thing and playing retarded better than transforming from the most well-liked guy in Hollywood, to the dirtiest cop we’ve ever seen in movies? The easiest way to an Oscar is to either play retarded or gay. And Penn finally got his “political” Oscar over the more deserving Mickey Rourke in “Milk”.

You didn’t bring that up did you? Of course not.

It didn’t bother that Hollywood tried to force a social issue(gay marriage) over the sheer power of one of the powerful movies of our generation in “The Wrestler”?

    Of course it didn’t.

    It never does.

And that’s the problem with people like you.

Nobody cares until a minority group starts winning.

Then, you like the moronic “Tea Baggers”, all of a sudden have a problem with everything that has ALWAYS been going on.

And why do you keep bringin up Obama to me?

I think Obama’s a sellout, just like all the other Democrats

  24. jeremiahsteele says:

I made a couple of errors at least in my rants. The Oscars DID give Best Picture Oscar to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. So that’s ONE Best Picture Oscar in 80+ years for a movie in the Science Fiction Genre.

Also I meant to say Spike Lee had made, not was working on, a war movie about an all black regiment.

I saw Spike Lee’s “Passing Strange”. I thought that was great. No issues with that peformance.

On the other hand, Here’s a comment from a review of Spike Lee’s “Miracle at St. Anna”

“My biggest problem was the stereotypical racism of the white characters in the movie. The only American white people in the movie are shown as black-hating jerks who’s ignorance leads them to destruction.”

This is the guy who constantly accuses whites of being racist. Of course in his movie all the whities are racist. Makes sense.

I have a dream… that Spike Lee would shut his face.

  25. Larry Horse says:

Steele, its a Bond movie, doesnt really have to make sense. The second kill is considerably: easier! Watch the movie and have fun. Biggest Pacino screwjob was Godfather 2. Paul Newman got his Oscar for a terrible movie, terrible and directed by Scorese.

  26. jeremiahsteele says:

“That’s my point. Why is it that only when the Black actors start winning is it a problem?”

HUH? WHAT? Let me repeat myself, WHAT????

How the hell have you failed to notice my complaints about politics in ALL WAYS. I mentioned Scorcese who’s white, but when I mention politics in regards to blacks I’m racist??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

I’ve got a problem with politics not blacks.

I only specified I was not referring to Obama in my last comment (about certain black leaders concerned only about blacks) so that you knew I wasn’t referring to him.

You really think Penn’s portayal of a retard was easy? I’ve always felt Penn is one of the best and most versatile actors in Hollywood.

I’m glad you also see Obama’s a sell out.

You and I don’t necessarily think as differently as you may think.

I just think you got me a little misunderfuckinstood. There are endless examples to bring up or discover about how the oscars are a crock. There’s no way I could bring them all up. I haven’t been happy with the Oscars for a long time, although every once in a while they seem to get it right. Racial politics is only one example, it’s not the only thing, nor is something that bothers me more than anything else.

  27. Larry Horse says:

The Oscars are a reflection of the movies Hollywood makes, lots of white people. Though it is less so now. Now that there are 10 movies in the Best Picture category isnt it time the Best Forgeign Films category is ash canned.

  28. President4Life says:

jeremiahsteele, I didn’t say you were “racist”, just implied that you were a lil’ sensitive when it came to race in this issue.

What I said is that things work business as usual forever, and then as soon as something tends to start changing in a way that recognizes a minority group, then there’s a rant.

Most of your original post was about Mo’Nique and the recognition of Sidney Portier, Halle Berry, and Denzel Washington.

I think all awards show are political. We do agree there that there is a political component, but my point is that there’s way more egregious examples of the Oscars and other awards being “political”, then giving Monique, Denzel Washington, and Halle Berry, Oscars. Those people all gave pretty universally acclaimed performance in really good movies.

How are their victories any more political than any other year?

When Denzel didn’t win for “Malcolm X”, would you have written that it was politics that kept him from winning? I don’t think so. If none of those people had ever won and they kept giving it to White people over and over again who dress up as gays and retards. This rant probably wouldn’t exist. That’s my point.

It’s just noticeable to people like you now that people like Denzel and Jamie Foxx are winning, but like I said, every year is politics.

I understood that it’s not the ONLY issue that you have about the Oscars, but there has to be a reason that that was thing that jumped out at you. After 90 years of bullshit, the main thing that jumps out at you to write about is that a few Black people after years of being ignored won. And not even undeserving Wayans Bros. type Black folk, Hollywood A-List Black folk. That’s what made up the bulk of your argument. You listed some other things, but the predominance of the argument was this whole Fox News mentality that America’s now giving “the Blacks” awards that as some kind of Hollywood Affirmative Action.

And didn’t you see “Tropic Thunder”?

Penn went “full retard” to go for the Oscar and then he went “full gay” to win the Oscar. Both times they were obvious attempts to win. That’s why it’s been parodied so many times. It’s obvious what he was doing and why he was doing. Hell, Mickey Rourke even called Sean Penn one of the most homophobic people he knew. It was about the Oscar for him and he knew Hollywood would give it to him and they did.

  29. jeremiahsteele says:

I understand that my second article (or second half of my original article) addressed the race issue in large measure. If you add my two articles together as one (which it originally was) than the race politics issue is not so dominant. Also, a good part of the write-up addressed the issue of racism in the past, including Hattie McDaniel’s experience, as a prelude.

As I said I was originally writing and the subject was not reaching any end. I threw in a lot of info about the race issue as I was studying and interested in it, not because it bothers me more than other form of politics. I wrapped it all up somewhat abruptly because, as I said, the whole subject of oscar politics would’ve just gone on and on without end. I can’t write a book for LIB, only an article.

I didn’t mean to suggest that race politics was more important to me than any other form of politics.

It’s just that this kind of politics brings up the whole controversial and unsettling issue of quotas versus the idea of picking the best, regardless of whether they should’ve won in the past, their race, orientation or off camera behavior. Yes, it is a matter of affirmative action. To say it’s not is crazy because the whole Oscars are political.

You think Denzel did better than Sean Penn. That’s cool. We all have our opinions.

My point again is politics takes from the true worth and, for those who recognize it, the joy of winning, no matter who wins. And I’m not suggesting it’s any more political when blacks win then when anyone one else wins.

People like Spike and Rev. Al encourage race politics. Race should not be relevant to picking winners but because of their activism it is.

If a “white” person doesn’t win, he doesn’t have the out of crying bigotry. If a “black” doesn’t win, he, through the rants and ravings of Spike or Al, does. Meanwhile, Spike will continue to make movies where all the white guys in it are stupid racists. Whatever.

But regardless, Denzel is by no means getting “screwed”, whether or not he wins any oscars. Why? Because the oscars are a fucking joke either way!

Also, Denzel, regardless, continues to work and work and work. If anyone’s getting screwed it’s all the other black male actors with hunger and talent who don’t get a chance to be in a big movie because Hollywood’s gotta always give it to Denzel.
So, cry me a river, whether or not he or any other millionaire actor wins an Oscar…

Like I said, if was a black actor nominated for an acting Oscar and heard there was talk that they were gonna give it to me because of my race, I wouldn’t be too happy about it. In fact, I might even stay home like some white nominees in the past have.

The award has become more of a political token than a real achievement. And that’s sad.

  30. jeremiahsteele says:

Btw, I was at Jamie Foxx’s house once years ago (w/Pebbles) when he had his Jamie Foxx show. I told him my name and he said “That sounds like a porn star’s name”. I said, yeah, that’s what I do and he said he liked my work. I was, like “wow”.

  31. President4Life says:

I kinda get what you’re saying, but I don’t see a bunch of Black folks protesting the Oscars when a Black person doesn’t win, even Al or Spike or Jesse.

Most Black folks don’t care about White awards shows, because we don’t expect Black people to win most of the time. That’s why the NAACP awards and stuff like that were invented. To compensate for being ignored at the Oscars and Tonys and whatever.

I’ve never heard anybody talk about giving an award to somebody because they’re Black either. I mean Terrance Howard was nominated for “Hustle & Flow” and didn’t win. There weren’t any riots or denunciations by Spike or Al and no rappers shot anybody. It was just whatever. I just think that this is a case of perception not being reality when it comes to racial politics of the Grammys.
