Not to single out Freeones.com because they are only one of MANY sites that are killing the adult movie industry, but all of the free photos and video clips they have on their site are a reason that most of you will not have jobs or companies in the future. I might be hanging onto an ‘old school mentality’ here and yes I know that many of you are making some additional revenue with the additional eyes that peak onto your product from Freeones.com but the long term effect of free porn is no jobs. I wish I was smarter than I am so that I could figure out where this is all leading to and what new business model will spring forth to make us money but when we embrace anybody that offers more free porn than any human being can jack off to in a lifetime we are idiots. At least for now we are. You won’t see me wearing a Freeones.com t-shirt. I know we all have to make money but come on with the free glut of porn it is a killer. Somebody show me the way!

Hey Will I have to disagree with you. Freeones doesn’t post full scenes for free. The full scenes the do post are content that they have purchased and they have to be bought by registered users using points they accumulate over time by posting on the forums, rating galleries etc.
The post links to galleries and video samples. They aren’t a tube site and they are one of the better traffic sources for porn star sites and a great outlet for promoting your site. They require 70% rev share which is very high but they send solid traffic and their traffic buys, because they don’t get full length videos on their site.
I hate tube sites and agree with you entirely in that regard. they are killing the business and I wish the people who make them popular would realize what they are doing to this business.

I understand what you say Mariah but my point is that a man needs two minutes to jerk off and I know plenty of people that get off by the stills and quick clips. Men don’t need to watch 3 hours of porn to get off, we need 2 minutes and I guarantee you that the stills and video clips that Freeones.com offers to view for free has satisfied thousands upon thousands that at one time in the past have purchased porn.
Mariah, Yes, I understand that Freeones.com sends valuable traffic I am not disputing you on this point. However, you cannot disguise a pink elephant in a dress shop no matter how much you try- lol. The point of any free porn is that guys tend to jerk off to it and Freeones.com is just one example (a huge example)of how guys are still consuming porn in huge amounts but getting it for free. I have heard from many guys that say they no longer purchase it because they simply and quickly jerk off to a set of still photos or a video clip. Remember, guys do not need 3 hours to get off, they simply need a pair of tits and 2 minutes. So, in my opinion any free porn is contrary to today’s business model. Yes that is old school thinking I know and I hope that I soon learn the wave of the future and can ride it but right now I don’t see any new waves coming in.

You’re just not on the web side of the business. You HAVE to give some shit away these days otherwise no one knows the quality of your site due to the overwhelming amount of crappy sites out there. i spend 4 or 5 hours every single day making photo galleries to submit to tgp sites and for my affiliates, like freeones to post for promo. I wish you didn’t have to give anything away but those days expired in 2001 when every stripper started her own site lol and too many people got burned by joining sites with a flashy tour only to find a few crappy videos and lame solo photo sets inside the members area. Now u gotta prove you have something worthy of the customers $30 a month. Sad but true.
Well actually we are on the web side of things with X-Play signing the biggest VOD deal in the history of AEBN many months back. Web, DVD- might all be gone as far as sales are concerned within a few years if people continue to consume porn for free. I do think however and have said this many times before that the only thing left standing will be individual big-named girls like you that work the system and take care of their fans. Those girls will survive like Gloria Gaynor once sang.

I agree with both Will and Mariah here. There are a lot of problems with content distribution and FreeOnes should be the least of everyone’s concerns. To me, the bigger problems are the Tube sites giving away full 20 minute scenes and the BitTorrent sites. They’re using professionally produced content (videos, porn starts, etc) to market WebCams and Adult Dating sites.
In my opinion, sites like FreeOnes or our site LatinBabeIndex are designed to introduce it’s visitors to different models/entertainers.
When I started LatinBabeIndex.com it was with the goal to help the models and maybe make some money along the way. My thinking was that if someone likes Latinas – our site will become one of their favorites. Maybe introduce them to models they would have otherwise never heard of.
That being said, there is still a fine line between giving away content and marketing sample content. I am still struggling with this mix. Then again, why would anyone pay to watch a scene if they can do a Google search and either find it on a Tube site or a BitTorrent site.
Want to make money today? You better take the path Mariah Milano has and offer exclusive content on your site and make an effort to engage with your members through chats and webcams.
I am actually going to start cutting a lot of the sites we promote out and start focusing my efforts on only the highest quality sites in which the model is able to offer added value rather than just static content people can download somewhere else.

I agree with latinababeindex about FreeOnes being the least of anyone’s problems. Not only does it show how DVD porn people think, but also highlights their inability to adapt. I’ve always thought the DVD crowd was crazy for having the movies on sites like Hotmovies and AEBN for 5 cents a minute instead of only offering streaming through their studio site.
The DVD crowd is far too wedded to physical sales. Barely having any computer knowledge has cost them millions in not just piracy, but lost opportunity. Look at Vivid whoring out their old movies to Smashbucks as ‘Vivid Classics’ instead of having their own ‘VividClassics.com’ site, indexed by model like Bangbros, with older porn legends doing live chats a couple times a week (and I’ll bet they could get plenty of older porn stars to sit in lingerie and chat type for an hour for $300). If they are only shipping 1000 of a new title, better step up the web game.
Well in defense of Will I have to say that he has gotten to the top of his game in less than 10 years which is pretty amazing. He just wants to make great porn movies that people enjoy watching. To me that’s as honorable as it gets.
He doesn’t own a company like Vivid, his stuff is distributed and sold on the shelves and through mail order and I’m sure also on the On demand sites like AEBN.
Vivid and Wicked and a lot of the big DVD companies didn’t think the internet was going to be what it is and they dropped the ball, without question. Hustler and a few others were the only ones who saw it and made it their focus.
So let Will make his great porn movies and be a fan and pay for it instead of saving a few bucks and getting a shitty copy that was ripped and lost all of it’s original quality in the process of being passed all around the internet.

Thanks Mariah you sexy thang. Actually we have really only been making movies for 5 years as there was a long long break between the first one and then next run.
Before that, I was in the music business for 15 years before I got into the adult movie business and that business was gutted by free music. There is not much of a music business anymore and now they make their money on live gate, merchandise, packaging, publishing and advertising which our business really doesn’t have anything like that to offer so…..? I understand the comments about some companies that have utilized the internet to bring fans back around for more purchases and that is fucking great and I too enjoy the quick and easy search that Freeones.com offers. Bam, type in a girl’s name and there she is and that is fucking great. I get it I am not dumb. However, even those shrewd and witty companies (like Brazzers and Bang) will be gone too in the not too distant future because nobody and I mean nobody can compete with free. Now with all that said, I really believe that somebody will come up with something amazingly clever and find a way to create wealth for a new adult industry but I have no clue what that will be.

Will and Mariah, if you’re interested in getting a look into where the future of adult—and home entertainment in general—is heading, just head over from AEE to CES and check out the stereoscopic 3D (S3D) technology that will be on display. They are already calling this year’s trade show the “3D CES,” and this tech is the biggest buzz of the event. Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, Vizio, LG, and many other TV display manufacturers and tech companies are introducing a full range of S3D products in 2010. Also, international technical standards for 3D Blu-ray have recently been set, and Panasonic as well as a couple others including Sony will debut players. Sony’s PS3 players are also now S3D enabled. The broadcast industry is following closely behind, with DirectTV debuting S3D for North America, and a couple of satellite networks in Britain and Europe already paving the way.
Smart people already know where the money will be in porn as the old models fall by the side of the road. Until you’ve experienced real, high-quality porn in S3D (and I’m not talking about what has been produced in the last year), you have yet to see its true potential. Alas, there won’t be any on display at CES, for the obvious reasons, but check out the show and you’ll get the picture. 2010 is going to be a very interesting year, indeed.
If anyone doubts the financial potential of 3D, James Cameron’s film ‘Avatar’, which had the highest production budget in history—somewhere around $350 million—has surpassed a billion dollars in global boxoffice in just three weeks.
Wow that is quite amazing. Yes, I do believe you are correct with the future of 3D. The skill set needs to be advanced quite a bit and the costs are quite expensive but hopefully that creates a new product demand. You know when HD first starting to be talked about I really didn’t like it that much. Now, I cannot watch a sporting event in SD because the picture is horrible and my tastes are leaning HD for everything now. I have yet to watch Avatar but my business partner Scott David just saw it and walked into the office saying that is where the future is for porn. I think Third Axis might be right.
Actually, the setup costs for 3D are not that dramatic; however, you would need to hire an experienced stereographer plus one or two assistants at a nominal day rate, at least until you can acquire the skills to shoot 3D on your own. You could also simply hire a turnkey stereographic team, which will add approximately 20-30% to your regular production costs, including post, which can be done in FCP.
I work in 3D production, and we’ve designed custom stereo rigs (side-by-side and beam-splitter mirror rigs) to accommodate various types of cameras, from large VeriCams to RED ONEs to very small box cams (just a brain with lens) as well as any miniDV units commonly used for porn (genlock is necessary for sync of the dual cams). We’re currently testing Canon 5D Mark II DSLRs (still cameras), which offer the use of high-quality primes and give fantastic image quality on par with systems costing tens of thousands, where the 5Ds plus glass are a fraction of that cost (plus factor in the 3D rig).
I’d be happy to give you further details if you’re interested.
BTW, the 5D shoots video at native 1080p and is full HD, using a 35mm full-frame sensor; however it’s far from a full-featured video cam, with no audio or HDMI out, but we’ve developed workarounds. Great assets are that it’s very lightweight, and it shoots in extreme low light with amazing image quality.
