My posts for the last week have been full of typos for two reasons, one I was posting from the car with the computer balanced on my lap and the sunshine making it almost impossible to see what I was doing. Second when I tried to post from the cabin, I had the problem of a dog who wanted to sit on my lap, which left me to post with one hand petting the dog, and one typing on the computer. (I can hear you now… what is your excuse for the typos on a normal day? SHUT UP! lol)
So now to bore you with the standard "What I did on my Vacation", and pictures….
It is a 10 hour drive from Fort Lauderdale, FL to Ellijay, Georgia according to MapQuest & my Pal Charmin Garmin. (yes we named out GPS, didn’t you?) In reality with a few stops it’s more like 12-14 hours.
After LOTS of computer research I had booked a log cabin in the mountains right outside the little town of Ellijay, on the Ellijay river. Having only seen it in tiny pictures on the computer, we were thrilled when we turned up the steep one lane road into the colorful tree lined woods and saw how secluded we would be. We had rented a lame Toyota SUV, and after some time going up the windy gravel roads I know better, next time I will be sure to get a Jeep!
The cabin from the "road", yes that grey rocky thing is the road
The cabin closer up, our rental car, and to the left, that green stuff is the water
View from the Cabin’s porch overlooking the river and the trees
that brown cover is over the Hot tub, which is very nice with red wine & a sunset…
I am very proud of myself. Even though the wood was damp and it took 3 hours, This is the first time I ever started a fire all by myself. (Intentionally anyway)
(They let you bring your dog everywhere around where we were which was a nice change)
The view from inside the cabin to the porch.
Four days there was way too short. And as many of you know we had a problem on the way home when a huge chunk of an 18 wheeler’s tire flew off and hit our car, then we had no choice but to drive over it. It tore up the rubber around the wheel well. Luckily we were okay, the car was mostly okay, and my husband fixed it well enough to drive the rest of the way home. Very scary though, if could have been way worse. You just never know.
So have fun while you can. And Georgia is a great place to do it. I believe we are going up again in a couple months, and I think we will be moving there in the future…
Amazing shot of the view from the falls!
