AVN ANNOUNCES NEW LOCATION FOR 2010 AVN AWARDS SHOW

from AVN’s Website

Pearl Theatre at Palms Hotel named as new home
CHATSWORTH, Calif.—AVN Media Network has announced that the 2010 AVN Awards Show, to take place on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, will be held at the Pearl Concert Theatre inside the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas.

“The Pearl Concert Theatre is an intimate, state-of-the-art facility,” said Paul Fishbein, president of AVN. “We were looking for something more conducive to a close-up experience, and watching what was done for both the NHL Awards and the MTV Music Video Awards two years ago convinced us that this theater provided an ideal location for the show. There isn’t a bad seat in the house.”

Tickets for the 2010 show go on sale on Oct. 1 and will be available at www.avnawards.com. A dazzling array of parties and special events for that weekend will be announced in the coming weeks.

“The Palms Casino Resort has been a wonderful home for our winter Internext conventions, so we’re excited to further our relationship with that venue,” said Darren Roberts, AVN’s CEO. “We now have greater flexibility in producing the television coverage of the awards, while making the live experience that much better for our attendees.”

“We are thrilled to be the new home of the AVN Awards,” said George Maloof, owner of the Palms Casino Resort. “Moving this show to the Pearl will give guests a more intimate experience than in years past.”

The deadline for products to be included in the 2010 Awards is Sept. 30, 2009. All products must be released into retail locations by that date.

“Soon we’ll announce information about how to enter your products for consideration,” said Dan Miller, executive editor of AVN. “Just as we did last year, there will be a website where people can easily enter their submissions for nomination.”

Also, for the first time ever, AVN will be announcing six Consumer Choice Awards, which will be voted on strictly by the fans.

“Some of these awards are very unique but speak to the heart of what consumers are looking for,” Roberts said. “Having them on the television show will increase consumer interest and awareness for all the titles, products and websites involved.”

In addition, AVN will be announcing some unique and exciting sponsorship opportunities. “The Palms allows us to really target our customers’ needs—and the intimacy of the venue makes for perfect targeted marketing,” said Renee Johnson, senior show manager for AVN. “It’s a great venue where the ROI will be tremendous.”

For sponsorship information, contact Renee Johnson (renee.johnson@avn.com)  at 818-718-5788, ext. 139.

Nice love it!! I can’t wait for this year!! I am signing and it should be fun like last year!

  2. kelly, i thought you left the world of porn, and is living the life a regular person.

The AVNs should announce they’re actually going to run a credible awards show. WTF — up to ten nominees in most categories, half of the studios (who actually made decent porn) never get a nomination, the same five companies and girls are endlessly nominated and given awards.

What a load of bullshit…are porn people too stupid and/or vain to not care?

  4. sammyglick I think you know the answer to that question.

I’d be curious to know what studios you’re speaking of that never get nominations. Do they submit their titles for consideration? Whatever connection you make between actually winning an award and advertising dollars spent at a particular location (something that has been disproven scores of times in the past, often by angry companies that advertised a lot but took home few awards), nominations are as much a function of a company entering themselves for consideration as anything else.

There are dozens of voters in the awards, the show now incorporating a set of consumer choices to satisfy the critics, but even in this economy, precious few have seen more than a couple hundred of the thousands of releases this year (I generally write up between 600 and 800 reviews a year, in pretty fair detail, on top of what I watch for voting and even I refrain from voting in a bunch of categories). I don’t always agree with the outcomes of specific awards but the reason why certain companies tend to win more than others seems to have something to do with the end product and/or performers involved, rather than all about the money as some claim.

  6. sammyglick says:

Dozens of voters in the awards? What kind of pseudo-fascist nonsense is that!?

Here’s my gripes for the 2009 awards. How in the hell does “Best Oral Sex Scene” go to a movie that came out over a year ago (Face Fucking Inc. 3)? As last I checked, they’re on number 5 and counting. Plus, the scene that won wasn’t even the best in the movie (Annette Schwarz inhales cock in her sleep…so doesn’t it belong to someone who pushed themselves further than ever before?).

Pirates II couldn’t have been THAT GOOD of a movie to win over a dozen awards.

How does PT Thomas win over Andrew Blake in the “Best Film” category. That’s just straight up bullshit, as Blake is a legend and Thomas is a hack.

Best Gonzo Release is Gauntlet 3?! As much as I like Vince’s stuff, this wasn’t his best ‘gauntlet’. Likewise, where are the nominations and wins for Anabolic, Mike John or Red Light District in this category?

James Deen Male Performer of the Year? Really, seriously…or is it that he was just in so many movies, many of them not exceptional at all, people just gave him the award based on endurance?

Stoya is the Best New Starlet? Please…give me a friggin’ break! She’s almost as boring as Sasha Grey, except that she smiles and doesn’t spew political bullshit at the drop of a hat.

Best Tease Performance – Jenna Haze, Pretty as They Cum. I respect Haze, but again, this was far from being the ‘best tease’ of the year — and not even one of her ‘best tease’ moments. Likewise, Streams’ work is spotty at best (so again, why was he even nominated in this category).

Male Foreign Performer Of The Year – Rocco Siffredi. Huh? What is this a joke and it’s actually for the year 1999? Hasn’t he been retired for years…only coming back to performing on camera this year (in the release Rocco’s Back).

The Jenna Jameson Crossover Star Of The Year – Katie Morgan. Again, WTF? As much as I despise Sasha Grey, doesn’t she deserve this award FAR MORE than Katie Morgan? Last I checked, Katie wasn’t in a mainstream art house film and did media interviews with the likes of Rolling Stone and Carson Daly.

Best All-Girl Group Sex Scene – Cheerleaders. Again, who is voting for this junk? Cheerleaders was so lame, the entire movie a waste of time (unlike Babysitters which was actually good). Fuck at this rate, it’s obvious that by default Nurses will get every single award in 2010 that Cheerleaders got.

Best Double Penetration Sex Scene – Fallen. Give me a fucking break! Out of ALL of the HUNDREDS (probably thousands) of DP scenes in 2008, this piece of pretentious bs was the ‘best’?

Most Outrageous Sex Scene – Night of the Giving Head, Rodnievision. Again, as much as I hate the crap JM puts out, this seems like a gimme for them (as what else do they make but some of the most ‘outrageous’ porn in the world).

Clever Title of the Year, Strollin in the Colon, Hustler Video. If you’re six it’s the ‘most clever title’ — but for us adults, it the ‘dumbest title’ of the year.

Director Of The Year, Brad Armstrong. WTF…this guy is nearly as bad as PT Thomas if that’s even possible. Just because a guy can adjust the focus, F-stop and white balance while some crazy porn chick is having her third meltdown of the day doesn’t make him an ‘award worthy’ director.

Hi pornfan I will still be there for signings, and My site is still up. I just did a bunch of updates. I am just not doing hardcore scenes etc for other companies. 😉

  8. Houstondon says:

Sammy, I saw the list of names voting and there were a lot of names included so my statement still stands regarding how many voters there were. If you have a specific beef about the comment, just say so rather than be obscure. The rest, in order…

    1) With over a thousand nominations, every once in awhile one will slip past the cracks like Face Fucking 3 (though #5 would have been too late for consideration as it came out after the show itself).

    2) P2 did a lot of things better than the generic pap released by most companies.

    3) Blake’s movies rarely even have sex in them so while I’m not playing the PT apologist here (the way he’s been fussing at me for months prevents that from happening), you have to like the VERY narrow style of Blake to support him over a generalist like PT.

    4) I’m curious why you would list RLD as a contender for any awards given how cheaply made they have been and how rarely a barely “decent” flick comes from them now. Some prefer Mike’s works and others have their own tastes so while G3 wasn’t my favorite, it was not a half bad offering compared to the rest of those on the list.

    5) James Deen as best male…okay, can’t argue with that complaint. 😉

    6) Stoya won pretty much every award from every organization handing them out from Berlin to Las Vegas to XRCO and several others. I saw every movie she made in the rating period as well as most of the work by the others. Despite her recent meltdown, she earned the award…

    7) Jenna Haze is great at teasing and did a fine job in that one.

    8) Rocco S. has long had a following and he was in more than a single title. Considering how lame so many other foreign males are, there weren’t a lot of choices.

    9) Sasha Grey’s single movie had not come out by voting time, Katie having worked in a Kevin Smith movie, had an HBO special/series, and guest starred in various other productions in mainstream.

    10) Cheerleaders was much better than Babysitters to me but like many such awards, the popularity of the cast in the orgy probably convinced a number of voters.

    11) People voting for best DP scenes generally vote for how much they got into the action as a result of the performer. You could select some foreign hooker turned porn whore that would take a baseball bat up her ass while yawning or you could pick a long time favorite contract gal.

    12) So are you confirming the logic of picking Night of the Giving Head?

    13) Strollin’ did not have much competition at all…

    14) Brad Armstrong as best director. I liked Fallen and he had a number of other features that showed more than just a basic grasp of the technical stuff too. More often than not, your personal pick for “Best” anything is going to reflect your appreciation for the genre they focus their efforts on…

In any case, you never answered my original questions.
“I’d be curious to know what studios you’re speaking of that never get nominations. Do they submit their titles for consideration?”

  9. freepornstarpix says:

James was in a huge number of movies, he is hot and gives good orgasms. You need to be female to judge best male.

  10. Harvey Dent says:

Is odd but James Deen while being hated by many fans seens to be one of the few male performers girls actually enjoy fucking.

Stoya is far better looking than Sasha Grey, but she might use a hamburger.
Meltdown, Don, what happened!Spìll it out.

Huh? Looks like a guy by the name of ‘freepornstarpix’ needs to be in charge of next years nominations for Best Male Talent…

As for Houstondon, I know it must pain you to hear from a lifelong fan of adult cinema…but a lot of what you said isn’t changing any hearts and minds from where I sit. In fact, a friend of mine also well-versed in porn, used to say that all he wanted to see was ‘meat and potatoes’ (B/G straight vag fucking). Even to this day, all he can talk about is how back in the day, Everhard was always drenched in sweat in his scenes (and as a result, he avoids like the plague movies the celebrated woodsman is in).

I used to think he was insane, until after a while even I got tired of the lame dialogue, cheesy efforts by pornographers to approximate ‘Hollywood style’ filmmaking and circus acts like spitting, choking, excessively large gangbangs, or dumb positions like the one where the guy is banging a girl from behind and plants his foot on her face.

So yes, I stand by my assertion PT is a hack who couldn’t direct his way out of a paperbag if he had to save his account’s life, and that movies like Fallen are just an absurd use of resources and porn talent (because at the end of the day, most are skipping past all of the chatter to get to the banging…only to find it dull and wannabe Hollywood).

The AVNs have rules that make little sense and obviously, those who vote are even worst than Hollywood (in that they don’t vote for what is actually good or even interesting, but their friends and their friends’ friends).

Porn Valley spits out thousands of titles a year and yet, each time I bother to look at the AVN nominations over the years, they just award the same nonsense again and again and again. Never wavering from a misguided idea that they are awarding excellence (when all they really do is salute patronage and that which is often just mediocre at best).

  12. Houstondon says:

Sammy, you have a right to believe whatever you want, but you never answered my original questions.
“I’d be curious to know what studios you’re speaking of that never get nominations. Do they submit their titles for consideration?”

I’ve been a fan of porn for longer than most (25+ years) and seen more titles than just about anyone out there but I also readily acknowledge that porn is a majority of one; ie: we all have different tastes. It really doesn’t bother me a bit hearing from other lifelong fans, I enjoy hearing from them more than the newcomer “how do I get into porn” types any day of the week too.

Blake is cool and stylish but he pretty much stopped making hardcore porn. PT’s great many limitations aside, at least he shoots gals and guys fucking (as the first friend you mentioned, the meat and potatoes one, likes). Everhard is an Olympic performer compared to most men in the industry, the third and fourth tier mopes that have trouble getting and maintaining erections envious of him. Having spoken to many of the female performers, there are only a handful of guys that they really seem to like, Everhard, Ferrara, Evan Stone, Deen, and a couple of others; Erik usually winning out on days when the gals just want a long, hard ride.

I’m not a big fan of the abuse porn or circus act sex either but there are times when the females are into it, want it, and respond in kind. Those are the award winning performances for me.

As far as the voters are concerned, when faced with a list of 5 to 15 choices in a category, I have no doubt that some of them pick based on who gets them off (this is porn and for “best… scenes” that makes sense). Others may pick based in part on popularity too but unlike the accusation made initially, and often repeated, I have never heard of a voter selecting based on advertising dollars. There have been years when Vivid has been all but shut out yet they are usually among the biggest advertisers while small companies took certain awards. The same holds true for numerous other cases which was why I have asked you repeatedly to name some names for unsung companies (still waiting in fact).

And if you think the voters are getting it all wrong, by all means vote in the newly commissioned fan votes to show us where we got it wrong. Keep in mind that individual voters often select different choices than the ones that win too but I suspect you know that already. And as far as the rules are concerned, no set of rules will make everyone happy but rules at least establish the parameters (and out of all those who have won in the past, few seem to send them back or think the voters got it wrong when they won).

Once more though, you never answered my original questions.
