Sherman on The Porn Party Scene; fake journalists?

by Sherman of the EMMREPORT.com

I haven’t written anything for a while, because, {as far as I am Concerned} there’s been nothing to write about, until now. This subject has been discussed a lot amongst industry insiders: What’s happened to the Porn party scene? Is there a scene? Was there one? Where did it go? If you were at the Vice Club this past Thursday in Hollywood, and actually paid attention, you would have noticed a few things: A-the Place was packed: B-Nobody was there. C-The only legitimate media were the first people out the door. D-There were people doing location scouting for a major major “intimate” event coming up, and while they were impressed with the venue. The word most often used to describe the chaos inside was “JOKE”.  Suffice to say, this next event will NOT be at this venue. But a few questions scream to be answered:

With all the publicist’s, promoters, insiders, etc, involved in putting this event together, and, no disrespect to any of them, or anyone there, but where were the stars? Established Performers, Fan faves, what ever you need to call them.

Take out the LA Direct models, and what did you have?  Not much truthfully. Why? I spoke to several established stars, and while many cite schedules, work and so forth, as possible reasons for not attending, the main thing repeated over and over and over and over and over was simple, who are all these photographers, video crews and other so called “journalist’s”? At Thursday night’s event, there was, {according to one established publicist present}, “maybe 2, possibly 3 legitimate news outlets” there, the rest were, well, no one really knows, photographers of some sort, Video crews, shooting for what? No one really knew, no one was in charge, they just kinda ran wild. If you are a fan, or a promoter, I can tell you from speaking directly with the more established performers, they will continue to skip everything, and encourage their fellow performers to stay home as well.

Most agents, {while refusing to speak on the record}, quietly encourage their clients to stay home as well. Publicist’s as well, want to get their clients Maximum exposure, but when they can’t explain to their client who most of these people are, well, what would you do? The other question that certain publicist’s have is simple, If  I have my client attend this event, who’s doing follow up with these so called “journalist’s” and verifying that they are actually posting a story from the event? I can tell you from first hand experience, at least 75% of the photographers in attendance will NEVER post anything, the ones that do, will throw a gallery together some place, not identify the performers, or mention the event itself, some will post photos on their myspace or facebook page, we won’t even get into the atrocious quality {or lack there of} the actual image itself.

What you will end up with is what you have now: The same 4 girls at every party, getting grabbed, harassed or disrespected by these so called Journalist’s, {that no one seems to know who or why they are there}, the legitimate media will show up less and less, you will have less talent then what you have now, {if that’s possible}and then, maybe, just maybe, the powers that be, {and you know who you are} will either correct the problem, or sink deeper and deeper into the feces….Not before sending out a press release calling the event a smashing success, it was, if you like feces…

  1. So why isn’t it managed and run better? If the planners only want real press, issue out press passes and keep everyone else behind barriers.

I’m sorry but many don’t go because they’re lazy. Not everyone of course but many. They want to be in porn which is part of the entertainment industry. But they think just doing photoshoots, videos, and dance appearances is all it takes. They have to be at all these parties but they don’t want to. They also think this is mainstream Hollywood where they’ll be paid an appearance fee and given goodie bags just for showing up.

Many also don’t live in California. That’s a big problem when most parties are held out there and many don’t even live there.

What’s so hard with canceling one date on their dancing schedule for a party? They’ll get more mileage and press and $$$ by being seen at these parties instead of doing one of their dance gigs.

If men are groping them and harassing the women at these parties, then why isn’t there security there and why aren’t these people kicked out and only allow in the real press?

Who exactly is the “real” press anyway? You say two or three but who are they? There are so many more legitimate porn press out there that go to these parties all the time. It’s so much more than just 2 or 3.

The agents also probably want to be paid directly to allow their girls to go and have more control in the event. Why did Derek Hay pull many of his girls from Hustler’s recent 35th anniversary party? Alexis Texas was that month’s Hustler cover girl and she wasn’t there.

Take out the LA Direct models, and what did you have? Not much truthfully. Why? It’s none of the established star’s business who the press is. They actually expect the press to get the permission first to attend by all the “established” stars? Your job is to go to every party you can and be seen. Also tell every photographer your name and don’t be insulted if they don’t know who you are. Many of them don’t know who you are. Tell them your name or even hand out business cards like many in Hollywood do at these parties. Your job is to show up and not to critique who is legitimate porn press or not.

Most agents, {while refusing to speak on the record}, quietly encourage their clients to stay home as well. Agents probably don’t tell the girls to show because the agents aren’t being paid. Many agents take a cut of the girl’s money for doing absolutely nothing. I’ve already told many women write your own press releases and here are the email addresses and email them yourselves. Why? The women couldn’t even get their agents to call or email them back for anything. They also never ran any press releases for them either.

And an agent doesn’t have to explain anything to these women. It’s a party and you show up. If they need security, then provide it for them or whoever the fuck is running these parties should be the ones providing the security for the women and making sure that the non-porn press is kicked out and no one is groping and harassing the women.

The same four girls showing up, aside from them being abused when they show, are the smart girls for doing their job and going to every party they can and being seen and having their picture taken. Get these so-called journalists out of the parties. But I still think if only the legitimate porn press were the ones showing up and only them, the porn stars would still NOT show up. Many feel they don’t have to.

If I was handling any of the talent, I would get a list of every upcoming party and event and tell them to be there, I would provide security for them if they didn’t already have their own, and I would tell them be seen & smile. Many don’t smile. I look at these pictures are so many have the nastiest looking expressions. They also dress horribly and shouldn’t even be there if they’re not willing to do their job & their part.

With Porno Dan parties, some girls don’t like to go because they don’t like Porno Dan jumping all over them doing sex acts. They also don’t like being cornered and forced to show nudity to people who only post pictures to their Flickr accounts. Also, many of the nude photos show up in magazines and the photographer pockets all the money. The talent gets nothing. Alexis Texas was smacked in the head at the December Blue Moon Nights party.

The only two websites where you photos from public events will truly be seen by a large audience are AVN.com, my site, Fleshbot, and this site, because those come up in the web searches (the photos are always posted!).

Lee Bang accompanies his talent to parties and Type 9 had a wrangler/handler with their girls last year. LA Direct only lets their talent attend certain events. Joel used to bring girls to stuff like XRCO as did Spiegler..

I don’t find that to be true. Doing doing photoshoots, videos, and dance appearances is more than enough. How many of these parties do you attend Darrah? You are one of many “fake journalists.” Your a big part of the new trend of Copy/Pasters that have popped out of no where this year. You calling people LAZY? LOL! Oh the irony.

  4. I never once called myself a journalist. Others have. I’m a blogger.

I’ve also tried to write my own thing now. I’m not a natural born writer which is harder for me. I always got shit from people at XPT for cut & paste when I started a year and a half ago. That’s why I tried doing it myself more so now.

I’ve never gone to any of the parties because geographically I can’t. But the biggest stars in the world do more than just the basics. They have to do much more in promoting themselves. Many porn stars don’t even go to the award shows.

freepornstarpix, I assume Dan can’t be kicked out right? If he’s such a problem, then why isn’t he thrown out and never invited again? How can anyone throw a party wanting porn stars to show up but then allow Porno Dan and others to come in when they’re the problem?

  5. Sure Bill says:

These parties don’t do anything for one’s profile. Allot of these photographers are just civilians with cameras and blogs like yourself. @ freepornstarpix are a lady? I think I might now who you are, and if I’m right your a bigger fake than Darrah.

  6. sammyglick says:

Darrah says “They want to be in porn which is part of the entertainment industry.”

Huh? On what planet is PORN considered to be an extension of the ‘legitimate’ entertainment industry?! That’s like saying your typical kid lemonade stand is part of the US Economy. How many discussions and debates have been had on LIB about porn people who try (and fail) to ‘cross over’? How many porn movies has any woman in a major or supporting role in the current top ten films at the US Box Office been in?

The fact there is even a debate (endless that is) points to the fact, if porn talent could so easily cross over into mainstream entertainment, this post wouldn’t need to exist (or it would be on a mainstream press blog).

I just have to laugh when I read something as idiotic on its face as that statement. It’s like watching the AVN Awards on Showtime the past few years; so much of the talent walking the red carpet are as delusional as Norma Desmond in the final moments of Sunset Boulevard (yea, those chicks sure are ready for their “close up” — but it’s going to be for either an ATM, facial, or cum-swap).

  7. freepornstarpix says:

Sure Bill, don’t worry, I work full time in internet porn, blogging is just one way to generate traffic, but I wouldn’t expect you to know that. Flame away, needledick. You’re just another brick and mortar porn idiot hustling for pennies.

Talent isn’t going to complain about who attends parties, they just stop coming. It is way more fun to go out with friends than attend a porn party because of all the gropers and guys trying to get laid.

  8. Sure Bill says:

@ sammyglick you need to learn how to read.

In what part of “They want to be in porn which is part of the entertainment industry.” Did you see legitimate’?

Aare you, slow? Or just dumb?

Porn is part of the entertainment industry. It’s not mainstream, but it is in fact a form of entertainment.

  9. Sure Bill says:

Freepornstarpix? Generate Traffic to what?!? Hustling for pennies? Don’t you stand outside of porn parties all night long?

  10. freepornstarpix says:

    Your mom does SureBill.

  11. freepornstarpix says:

Darrah, there really is no control on who poses as media at parties. The worst experience I’ve had with random ‘press’ at parties was XRCO in ’08, where this one guy kept jabbing in the back with camera and demanding the people make room for him when he showed up 30 min after everyone else was in place. Then there was this other asshole who harassed me, demanding a business card, and wouldn’t get the hell away from me until I gave him one.

As for you SureBill, I don’t give a flying fuck if you know me. Have a good day, asshole.

  12. freepornstarpix says:

And one more thing, SureBill, you are not anonymous and I will ask Cindi to give me your email so I can address you privately.

  13. Sure Bill says:

    @ freepornstarpix SUUURE BILL!

    LOL!

  14. Cindi isn’t going to give you his email address

  15. The main reason that there is a lack of enthusiasm to attend industry events and specifically porn parties is because the adult movie industry is dying. That combined with the fact that a bunch of so called promoters came out of the woodwork to host shitty parties over the past few years totally watered down the landscape where most of the events sucked and nobody wanted to go out anymore.

There was a recent time however that my other company All Media Play threw some of the biggest porn industry bashes ever seen like the time we rented that converted aircraft hanger in Burbank and packed in 1000 people and offered free drinks all night long. We promoted movies like Britney Rears, Dark Angels and Not the Bradys XXX through our parties and had a lot of fun doing it. We used to also team up with Bo Kenney and SexZ Pictures quite a bit and host some truly crazy bashes to promote movies like Corruption and Upload but with the rise of free porn and the diminished return on investment for most in the porn business those fun days are gone.

A few years ago, magazines actually covered the events and published stories and photos which helped set a product apart from the masses and sell units but even many of the magazines are going out of business now or merging. Promotion was the main reason to throw an event (BTW- what were some of the biggest porn movies of those past years? Answer: Britney Rears, Not the Bradys XXX, Corruption and Upload) but somewhere along the way it all got over-saturated with promo parties getting watered down and thrown into the discount bin. It’s sad too because I used to have a lot of fun at those big events and our movie sales results were great. The industry has totally changed in the past year or so and sadly enough it will be just about gone in 2 years if my crystal ball is correct.

I still venture out from time to time to various events like the XPeeps/AEBN Porno Dan bashes (because he is a maniac) and other events when I know some friends will be there. I also have to mention that the art of self-promotion by porn actresses is almost lost these days. I guess I really can’t blame them when there is not much work anymore to get for a new girl in the industry just coming in. She doesn’t really have the incentive to get out on the scene and network like she did a few short years ago when meeting the right person could result in five jobs. Old Hollywood used to be a much more exciting place too but times are a changing in the porn business and although many of you might put down some of the people on the red carpet at today’s events, I truly believe that to sell more units than your competitor you have to have a superior product and get people talking about it. Plus you never know who that person taking that photo is or will become. When I first started in this business as a publicist back in 2001, there was a small magazine and I had to convince some company owners to keep him on the DVD screener list even though that small publication only covered very little of what was ever sent. That editor/reporter really appreciated that I kept him on the list and a couple of years later he was named editor/publisher of AVN Magazine (has since departed) and his daughter went to work for me in my office. Moral of the story? You never know who that asshole is on the red carpet so treat him fairly. Lastly, as a marketer of my own X-Play product, I really appreciate all of the “small guys” that write blogs, post photos and keep our product in the limelight. Not everybody is Dan Davis of Genesis, Larry Flynt of Hustler Magazine or one of the other “big” publishers. That is why we are throwing a Halloween Bash in Hollywood that hopefully will be like a blast from the past and a return to the good old days when porn was fun. Keep Halloween night open because we are promoting Not Married with Children XXX, Not the Bradys XXX #3, Not Monday Night Football XXX and our upcoming feature comedy Flight Attendants at a bash that should be packed with chicks and something to remember.
