Most of the lists look like round up the usual suspects. As for suspects and convicts will they have a moment of silence for Max? They should have a new crossover class, for those who do straight, gay, bi and tranny, it could be a duel between the Trannyfucker and Lockwood.
AVN awards are pointless. No one reads AVN. These awares are simply a way to fluff up the egos of a few really lonely pathetic morons. If AVN was really worth anything they would give out cash awards to winners. The fact that they dont says alot. A $3 plastic/lexar trophy is all you get. Its not like you will get any more work from it. Its a money making racket for AVN. Yeah we’ll nominate you so that you can pay $400 a ticket to attend. What a scam.

For as long as I can remember, most nominees were given a free ticket, on top of which they could pick up some decent money working the Circle Bar or “porn parties” after the show. The show itself was sold off years ago though so AVN isn’t making a ton of money off whatever changes have possibly taken place.
What a bunch of nonsense. How can even porn people take this shit seriously? Fifteen nominees in these categories (unless it’s the Female Performer of the Year, then it’s sixteen nominees)?! Please, that’s just dumb. How much of a porn loser you must be to NOT be nominated for something when the criteria is so low and idiotic.
Oh and the Director of the Year nominee list is beyond stupid, when you’re matching up the camera skills of a Leslie or Robby D against Jim Powers? WTF — as if it makes any sense to judge one guy who can actually ‘direct’…while another dude is just pointing a video-camera at people fucking.

A lot of people seem to like the “people fucking” approach more than someone micromanaging how they screw in a formulaic number of positions for a set amount of time. Others like how some directors are able to tell a reasonably coherent story (feature porn/comedy/sitcum) while still including decent sex scenes. If you prefer porn lasting 5 minutes to quickly rub one out, your criteria will probably be different from those that prefer something entertaining on more levels.

As a CRITIC of porn movies, regardless of what someone might think of such a job, don’t you want the AVNs to actually be about awarding excellence and achievement?
The AVNs turn themselves into a joke and then some, when they throw together fifteen/sixteen names and call it a ‘nominations list’. There’s almost ZERO reason why over half of the names listed are up for an award.
Let’s look at the category of Male Performer of the Year. You are seriously, as a PORN CRITIC no less, going to defend Shorty Mac as worthy of winning this award (as why else put someone on a nominations list, if they don’t have a better than even chance of winning)?
Shorty Mac against guys like Everhard, Deen, Byron, Banderas? And Shane Diesel?! Please, the guy can barely get his beer can cock hard, much less throw down pipelaying on the level of Manuel or Stefano. It’s such a crock of bullshit, I don’t know how they keep the AVNs from turning Vegas into a toxic waste dump for the weekend they’re handing out the awards.
Sammy, you’re misinterpreting what I said. All I was doing was pointing out my oft used quote that “porn is a majority of one” in another manner. Different people enjoy different types of porn and therefore enjoy different styles of directing. For AVN, I have nothing to do with the nomination process (and really wouldn’t want to participate in it) so I’m not going to suggest I could fully answer why one performer gets a nod while another does not (though for the most part, especially with male performer of the year, there does not appear to be ANY correlation to ad revenues since men are not generally under contract).
The reason in a great many cases is one of the staffers saw a few titles with a performer, found them to their liking, and tossed the name into the admittedly large hat. At the end of the day, when a performer has an advocate aggressively suggesting them for a nomination, they may get a nomination but rarely win anything because there are too many voters in most of the “big categories” for that to make a difference.
Every year there are a number of cold fish, passive performers on the list too and in almost every case, they lose to a better performer but what “best performer” means is going to vary between individuals. Just lying there with your legs spread open doesn’t work for me when I’m watching porn and I have consistently held that stance for generations. Others might want a chick they can dominate that just does what she is told, your mileage may certainly vary. As Mark pointed out in another thread, there are other factors going into most nominations from the buzz surrounding them to the media attention, to how their fans support them, etc.
Some might advocate multi-pop Marco, others the driven way Everhard tears into the gals (usually to their liking), or the pure chemistry displayed by so many ladies with Ferrara. Others might appreciate all the salad tossing seen in Tom’s flicks or the way he handles feature roles, the youth of James as well as some of his modest sitcum efforts, or even the size queens that like Mac and Diesel over Stefano’s energy. Most people I’ve talked with aren’t particularly excited about discussing the males though so comparing them is akin to discussing the frames on the paintings in the Louvre but getting upset over it strikes me as kind of weird.
You put way too much energy into what the AVNs Awards truly are: a joke.
I used the category of Best Male Performer, because guys are going to naturally be pussy-whipped and start acting like loser virgins over categories that feature only women and/or certain sex acts.
Thusly, discussing the males deemed to have been the ‘best’ shows the flaws and sheer stupidly behind the AVN nominations.
Again, all one needs to do to show how useless the AVN Awards are, is the fact that the three categories mentioned at the start of this post, are nothing less than a total clusterfuck that denotes zero sexual performance abilities beyond having a pulse and either a pussy or a penis.
Again, to each their own. No one in the industry is forced to participate and everyone has their own preferences. The discussions fostered about who was robbed have long been more interesting to many than the awards themselves (and this is true of all awards) or how many people jump through hoops to disqualify anyone but their own selections; a yearly ritual is it not? Let me sum that one up: everyone except for AVN’s profit margin has been ‘robbed’ by an illogical nominations selection criteria that can be changed by the whim (and bribes) of Paul Fishbein.
Secondly, mainstream awards debates that focus on the nominations criteria or the awards themselves exist. To wit, the decision for the Oscars to now have ten ‘best picture’ nominees will dominate this years awards coverage. Similarly, I don’t know anyone who feels the Grammys make any sense (be it who they nominate or who ultimately wins). It doesn’t help, that the Grammys have about a zillion categories.
It’s also a running joke in Hollywood, the sheer number of awards given out between now and approx. March. Again, you have to be a pretty big loser in Hollywood if you can’t get at least ONE nod by a starfucking organization willing to spend millions to give away useless plastic trophies.
If you care about awards in the slightest, for whatever reason (porn or mainstream), that’s great. If you don’t care about awards in the slightest, why bother to keep commenting? If you have specific instances of a “bribe” to Mr. Fishbein, one that actually resulted in a changed outcome, by all means tell the world about it. One can or cannot believe that account (as one was never quite sure about Luke Ford’s journalistic abilities). Yet it is curious, with ALL of the evidence well documented, that Paul Fishbein would have said this in an Oct. 27, 2000 interview with Howard Stern,
Stern – “The porno industry has been accused of being run by the mob. Why hasn’t the mob just beaten you up and taken over your magazine?”
Fishbein – “There is no mob, I’ve never seen the mob in 18 years of doing AVN. Never.”
The jury of public opinion wonders, why in 2000, with the FBI’s MIPORN investigation a matter of public record, would the publisher of the U.S. Porn Industry’s main trade publication and for that matter, main source of news and information, claim that the Mafia has/had zero connections to the making of pornography in America.
Likewise, even if you take Luke Ford’s words with a grain of skeptical salt, you STILL have to wonder about the integrity of the industry’s main trade publication (and by default, their awards) when its publisher and co-creator is all but lying about the Mafia’s well-documented presence in Porn Valley.

Old Luke was about as responsible a journalist as Darrah and whatever entertainment value may have been derived from his stories, using him as a source is laughable.
As far as using the mob story is concerned, my personal firsthand experience with people even remotely connected/dealing with/trying to avoid/under investigation regarding/or wanting to stay away from altogether with organized crime is they deny everything. It has no bearing on their general ideals regarding truth and isn’t reasonable to use as an example of their overall credibility.

Sammy, if you’re going to suggest bribes are commonplace, relying on a single anecdote from an embittered former employee that might have happened 20 years ago is not a windfall degree of evidence.
As far as the organized crime stuff, most of what is shown on TV, the movies and in books is due to the vivid imagination of Hollywood writers with no experience at all in dealing with such people. The vast majority of people do not speak of such criminals because of the potential consequences, some of which have been adequately detailed by those imaginative accounts portrayed on your obvious favorite source of information (TV, movies, fictional books).
