The Floating World on Mika’s Post

Since you’ve cut and pasted Gene’s posting of an old Mika Tan blog post, I’ll send you the same email I sent him in response. He was either too lazy or too drunk to post it (I’m betting on both).

In the entry that you’ve cut-and-pasted from Mika Tan’s blog,  Mika gave the impression that The Floating World (http://www.TheFloatingWorld.com) was “advertising” her appearance for no apparent reason, or because we were working in collusion with someone else to blacken her name.

We post performers’ schedules to help publicize their appearances, and to publicize the clubs at which they appear. It’s an industry-positive activity. And whenever someone informs us that a schedule is incorrect, or has changed – or we notice that a schedule has changed – we update accordingly, as we did with Mika’s dates as soon as she wrote to us.
 
You have taken the liberty of quoting Mika as saying our schedule posting was “false advertising”. It’s a stretch to go from Mika’s asking us to stop “advertising” her appearance to having her accusing us of “false advertising”. False advertising would be what T’s Lounge did – if they knew that she wouldn’t be coming. And I believe that if T’s Lounge had doubts about Mika’s appearance, they wouldn’t have posted it on their website, where we found the dates listed.
 
The Floating World posts feature listings when  1) A performer sends us her schedule,   2) An appearance is listed on a performer’s schedule on her website, and  3) An appearance is listed on a club’s calendar.
 
Mika’s appearance was listed on the T’s Lounge website (http://www.tspalmbeach.com). We added it to our calendar. And when Mika wrote to tell us that the listing was incorrect, we took it off the calendar. The real cause of this problem was either Mika’s agency, which booked her without her approval, or the club, which may have posted a booking that hadn’t yet been confirmed.
 
She’s right to defend her reputation from any damage the mix-up at Lee Network or T’s Lounge might cause, but I wish she (and you) wouldn’t create the same kind of confusion about us as well.
 
Maybe this is all an attempt on your part to blacken Mika’s name. It won’t work. Agency feature bookings change all the time, for their reasons, for a club’s reasons, for a performer’s reasons. I don’t see how Mika is to blame in all of this – and I don’t know how we’re to blame for posting some club dates that T’s Lounge advertised on their site.
