Dear George.
Well here we are, coming up on the end of your time as president. I’m sure right now you are wandering around, looking at what to pack, trying to figure out how many of the residence towels you can shove into a suitcase, and looking forward to getting back to doing whatever it is you do on your ranch and getting to rack in the big bucks on the lecture/speaking circuit.
I will be honest with you here George, I am not your biggest fan. And for the first time that actually puts me in the majority. I didn’t like you from the first time I saw you. I didn’t want to have a beer with you, I didn’t, in fact, want you anywhere near me. There was something about you that put my teeth on edge. I don’t know if it was when you created “Jesus Day” in Texas, or the reports of you mocking the mentally retarded man you sent to be executed. I don’t know if it was residual memory from your Dad or what, but I didn’t like you then, and I don’t like you now.
I have endured your arrogance, your myopic view of the world, and your smug self-assuredness. Other people have labeled you as incompetent and stupid. They have looked at how you mangled your words and tossed you off as a rube. They thought you were stupid. They watched you struggle with a door and laughed at your apparent simple mindedness.
I never thought you were stupid George. Not once. I have never thought you were simple. I looked at you and saw greed, arrogance, and a complete lack of thought for those “beneath” you…….
