Chasey Lain: The Lubben Angle:

We have talked a lot about the disastrous Chasey Lain clips that Donny Long threw up onto YouTube this week. We all agree that the videos show Chasey in a very bad light. She clearly has substance abuse issues, health issues (mental and physical probably) and a severe case of Diva-it is. (Yes, I know that this literally translates to "Swelling of the Diva" and that it makes no sense, just please roll with me.)
Porn fans, Whore haters and every Captain Save-a-Ho out there has had his or her say on this issue so it makes sense that Shelley Lubben would pick up on it. Those of you who don’t know Shelley may want to take a look at her site. (www.ShelleyLubben.com) Basically she is a former porn performer and sex worker (and drug addict) who has turned her life around and now runs a ministry designed to help get other women out of the industry and onto a better path with God.
She also regularly rails against porn and even spoke on behalf of the greedy fucknuts in Sacramento during the recent porn tax hearings. I have taken plenty of heat for not blasting Shelley on a regular basis as most in the industry (understandably) do. The fact is, I respect half of what Shelley does.
There is no one out there to help women who want out of porn. When someone is ready to leave the industry has no interest in helping that happen. They have no interest in helping a young woman find help for a drug problem, a way out of an abusive relationship or help in finding a new "regular" job. For that I respect Shelley and support her efforts. Her ministry gives women who are often estranged from their friends and family a way to move past an industry that has no interest in helping them get out. (Just to be fair, how many industries help people on their way out?) For that I give Shelley a great deal of credit.
On the other hand she is fond of bashing every aspect of the industry, padding (or making up) her stats and blaming porn for everything from global warming to New Coke. In this case she has used the Chasey videos as a cautionary tale. To hear Shelley tell it, this sort of thing happens every day on every porn set the world over.
Let’s take a closer look at that though. First, does it happen every day? What exactly? Do drug addicted women show up on porn sets unable to perform? Yeah, probably. With so many porn shoots the world over, the numbers would be in favor of at least one woman showing up to work drunk or stoned. On the other hand, teachers, cops, doctors and clergymen also show up to work drunk or high every day. Do we blame their profession for their addiction? Does it happen on every porn set? No. Flat out, NO! I have been on dozens of sets as a journalist, cameraman and even a few as a director. Not every girl on every set is high or drunk. Am I saying I have seen someone altered on set? Of course not. I can tell you that I have never shot anyone in this condition and never seen anyone go through with a scene where a woman this badly out of her head.
But Shelley’s implication that every set is like this is just a flat out lie. To say that "most" sets are like this would also be wrong. Look folks, this is a business. Watch the Chasey videos and tell me how much work got done. It was a day wasted with both cast and crew waiting around for Chasey to get her shit together enough to shoot a scene. If every female in the porn business showed up like this, nothing would ever get done. It’s absurd to think that this is the norm.
Shelley’s implication that porn did this to Chasey is also iffy at best. She is in porn and she is fucked up. That much is true. But does A lead to B? Are there no other factors? Of course not. Chasey is in porn and she is fucked up, but she is also clearly messed up on either drugs or alcohol, perhaps both. Let’s call that C. So did A lead to B or did C lead to B? Did C lead to A? Did C plus A lead to B? I know a lot of women who have been in porn for a number of years. They aren’t all like Chasey.
I have known a number of drug addicts and alcoholics in my life. They aren’t ALL like Chasey. But of those two groups, the one that most often ends up like Chasey are the drug/alcohol abusers. To ignore this obvious fact is intellectually dishonest. In that spirit I won’t deny that porn and drug addiction can often go hand in hand. It is an industry where people can get in, make easy money and get out. Some girls use porn to pay for their drugs. Are some introduced to drugs while in porn? Probably and that sucks, but can we blame the industry for that?
I am sure that a number of priests first started molesting children while in the Church. Do we blame Christianity for that? Saying that porn did this to Chasey is just not intellectually honest. Last time I checked dentists had the highest rate of suicide based on occupation. Should we assume then that there is something very destructive about fixing people’s teeth?
While I still respect the outreach and aid that Shelley provides, her use of Chasey’s videos as a cautionary tale are dubious at best. Porn didn’t do this to Chasey. Drugs didn’t do this to Chasey. Chasey did this to Chasey. Like it or not, that’s the truth.
The Chasey Lain BTS video is shocking but shit man, didn’t you see that dull, lifeless, “I need a hit of some shit right now” look in her eyes when she first started? Some girls are destined for crack whoredom and we’ve got historical video of Chasey to prove it!
People in porn need to just ignore Shelly. Ignore her and she will go away.
Except for Shelley’s crusade to crush the porn industry, I don’t have a problem with her and never did. But I’ve never seen her as a big threat to the industry and see other organizations and politicians use Shelley to benefit their agenda. She helps the girls who want to be helped. She’s also not condemning the girls and wishing them all to hell like other Christians do. She’s even against Pastor Melissa Scott and the TBN – Trinity Broadcasting Network. She’s told them to stop using the videos she appears in which end up on their network. For Shelley of all people to go against them, that says allot. She seems to be genuine in wanting to help the girls. I wish she wasn’t so much against the industry because I would put up something on my blog to help raise money for Pink Cross.

Ponographers are in huge, huge denial, there is a growing work of scientific evidence that links sex work with certain mental illnesses. Most women is sex work do come mentally ill to the industry. But there is a growing database of reseach that says many women will get mentally ill in the industry. There is a definite scientifc link between sex work and some mental illnesses. And one of the symptoms of
that mental illnesses in huge substance abuse. Yes, there are subtance abuse in all walks of life but as a proportion of the work force the sex industry have the highest proportion. It can be as high as 70 to 90% if data from other sections of the sex industry are to be believed (I have not seen specific studies on porn but I do have seen studies on
strippers and escorts).
So the scientific link is there. If fact unless the industry do not start to phychologicaly test the talent, that might be the industry undoing in the long term. The mental issues can shoot down the free will pro porn argument (most of the workforce is in fact mentally ill) and open the industry for a huge class action. That is what Shelley is really doing. You should be thankfull that she is in for Religious reasons and not for money.
So she preach insteand of being ringleading lawsuits.
Of course right now the industry cannot ensure thorought tests for STDs much less for mental illness.
Anyone who thinks Shelley Lubben isn’t in it for the money is in a state of deep, deep denial.
What other industry allows, coddles and even encourages this type of behavior. Yes, people from all walks of life share these problems, but what other industry so readily ACCEPTS this behavior.
When doctors, teachers and cops are caught being stoned , drunk, or mentally ill action is taken by their “industry” to either help, or get rid of that indiviual. That does not happen in the porn industry. That is the difference. That is why they call it exploitation.

I get what you’re saying, but my point was that to pin the blame completely on “porn” is misguided. There is plenty of blame to go around.
From the looks of the video, Chase was fired so I would say that at least this time around the behavior was not accepted. Will she work again? That remains to be seen.
As far as Shelly goes, I agree with Rog that there is nothing wrong with helping “damaged” people in general. Her use of the video in question may be questionabel, but what you see in that video is REAL, and similar events hapen in porn valley regularly.
Right now there is an article on Genes site(adultfyi) about the same shooter(dl) and Carly Parker. In the article D.L. admits to threatening Carly parker that his client wont be happy. …”at this point I am still trying to reason with her and being very nice to her telling her that if she walks on my shoot and I call my client he will not be happly and I know him very well an the will get his scene, the only difference is he will get another shooter to hire her and he will blast her and make fun of her for walking on my set.”
Nothing like a little coercion, bullying, and threatening to ‘get your scene.” eh Donney. That what you call “being nice” And Donny is so smart he goes and makes all of this public. Really makes the “industry” look good.
Until people in this “industry” take a stand against this type of shit,keepyour traps shut regarding Shelly. You who live in glass houses shouldnt be throwing stones. Just my opinion.
I thought that this industry “polices itself.” What a joke.
People like Donny are making very easy for those who want to go after the porn industry, especially the politicians inSacremento. And the fact that this “industr” will do nothing to santcion this type of behavior is further proof that this industry has never policed itself and never will. With the industry as large as it is now,those old lies are so much easier to see through.

I have an open invitation to Donny to explain his motivation for releasing the videos of Chasey an Carly the way he did. I’m holding most of my judgment until then, but I’m not holding my breath.
Rog, you know as well as I that Chasey has had major problems for a long, long time. And yet this industry still has “open arms’ for her and many others in simialr “situations.”
And I agree that to pin the blame soley on porn is misguided. My point is twofold…..
1. While porn is not soley to blame, the industry still has to accpet its fair share of the blame for doing basically nothing about, or for, people like chasey. All I see form the adult industry is the same old line….’it happens everywhere, we’re no different”
2. Enabling this type of behavior is expoition

I find it funny that PORN “JOURNALIST” Gene Ross never questions the coercive tactics of Donney Long. You would think that such an established PORN “JOURNALIST” would would at least know that using coercion and blackmail is not acceptable, or is it in the porn biz? The only way a legal prostitute like Chasey Lain will stop being hired-getting contracts will be when they OD, or end up killing somebody/severely injuring someone. And end up going to jail for many years, even many decades.

There is a definite link between Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and other mental diseases and sex work. And there is a definite link between PTSD and substance abuse.
The polemics in the scientific comunity are what kinds of sex work are more harmfull. Some like Melissa Farley say all. Others do differenciate. But seen the trainwrencks in the porn industry I say that porn is near the top.

I also believe drugs and porn/escort work/stripping go hand and hand..although it’s ultimately up to the individual to go down that path. the thought of showing up doing a six guy all black gang bang, then some throat fucking, a few cream pies, is a little too hard for most people to deal with on a daily basis.so it’s easy to see someone follow the path of self medication..and true if someone is there to help the girls adjust to normal society again good for them they’re gonna need it.
