There was the award-winning starlet who twitched so much that I was sure she was about to break into an epileptic fit. There was the girl who broke out in a sudden, feverish sweat on set and shuddered for hours on our couch. And then my favorite: the model who was so drugged up that we stopped the shoot and sat her down to eat, hoping that some food in her system might sober her up a bit. But our efforts were futile: she promptly passed out face-down in her bowl of spaghetti.
My mother says that the drug abuse was far worse in her day. Back in the 1980s cocaine craze, everyone was running to the bathroom several times an hour. But nowadays all kinds of drugs have infiltrated the industry: A heroin habit seems as common as a Valium addiction. Speed is making quite a strong comeback, and perhaps this can be explained by the drug’s powerful ability to make anyone lose drastic amounts of weight, which is of course a convenient side effect for many models.
So what can be done? My mother and I have personally sent girls to therapists, to rehab, and sometimes back to their families to recoup.
Maybe
1. Have AIM weed out the druggies before they enter porn in the first place.
2. Report the druggies to pornstarperformance.
3. Lets face it, not every woman can fuck for a living without negative psychologial side efects. Only about a blessed 30%, 35% of women can.I call them superwhores. The industry should develop a ideal whore profile of those woman who can fuck for a living without developing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and/or becoming bi-polar and/or getting into drugs. And of course girls that come to the industry with postraumatic stress disorder from rape, physical abuse and/or molestation, or are already bipolar should never be allowed in the fist place. You are creating the Shelley Lubbens of the future.
Off course that means that the industry should become way more professional and disciplined that what is now.
Remember, heavy substance abuse is a part of those mental diseases, that are very common among sex workers not just porn girls.
The Randall’s are good people, I hope they do the research on this.
“Of course if society as a whole didn’t summarily point the finger at the porn industry as the direct cause of these maladies, girls could more easily recognize that people of all backgrounds and careers develop substance abuse problems. Instead, many of us assume it’s the demons inherent in our chosen enterprise: “Well of course another porn star has fallen prey to drug addiction, look at what she does for a living!” an ill-informed cynic might say.”
Holly, is true, all industries have their druggies, look at modelling or mainstream Hollywood for example, but sex work does carry some unique extra problems, such as the links between some mental diseases and sex work (and that can be a egg and the chicken problem, the girl came ill or got ill in the industry?). In my opinion porn is in denial of that aspect. And in my opinion that denial is not good when non porners can see throught that. I guess that porn should really start thinking on ways to meet the issue death on. Maybe hiring some mental health professionals as advisors.
“…she promptly passed out face-down in her bowl of spaghetti.” Are you sure it wasn’t because of the sauce, or maybe they weren’t “al dente”?
“So what can be done? My mother and I have personally sent girls to therapists, to rehab, and sometimes back to their families to recoup.”
Back to there families. Isn’t that where most troubles start according to porn legend?
Ya I always love how they all talk about doing drugs in porn…..betcherass everyone of em did drugs before they ever got into porn, porn just made it easier cuz they had more money for it.
In my deacde plus in blowbiz, I hardly ever needed anything other than lube. But substance abuse is a vice of showbiz in general for he/she who lack an extrovert personality or high energy level and needs a boost in the spotlight.
Drugs in porn are not simply an abuse badge for bad or evil people. They’re a psychological crutch for those who don’t like what they’re doing or have performance issues and need a sexual steroid.
1. Some people came to porn to get money for the drugs.
2. Some people who came clean to porn get to do drugs to endure doing something they do not like but keep doing out of self-loathing.
What`s could be dome? That Holly`s question. Any other ideas?
Bottom line? They’re all damaged people who need therapy and psychological treatment which won’t happen until THEY are ready to do it for themselves, hence the fact that there’s no real solution. Just do as they do ‚Äî grin and bear it.
