Samantha Sterlyng Interview

It’s been six years since we’ve spoken.

Samantha lives on the East Coast and works as an RN (registered nurse).

She also operates www.samanthasterlyngxxx.com.

We talk by phone Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007.

At age 19, she began working as a stripper. She did her first porn scene two years later in September of 1999.

"I was hired as a dancer for a porno party. I was on stage and Mark Spiegler sent Cherry Mirage up to me and brought me back to Mark who explained everything. It only took a week after I met Mark.

"I love feature dancing. It’s an energy rush that you can’t get anywhere else."

Luke: "What surprised you about the industry?"

Sam: "The group of people that you worked with regularly was only 15 people. And everyone’s openness with their sexuality."

Luke: "When we first talked, you said you’d never work as an escort. And then very quickly you did."

Sam: "I thought the porn business was getting very dangerous as far as STDs… When I was seeing clients, it was a more controlled environment. Everything was covered and protected."

"It was a delve into another world that I had no idea about and quickly ran from. It’s not a great environment for anybody to be in."

"I was wrapped up in the [porn] business. It was my every day life until I moved home [to the East Coast in 2003] and caught a whiff of the real world and how people really lived and how calm everything was."

"In January [2007], my partner Russ and I started talking… I still get emails from people on a regular basis inquiring if there was anywhere I could be find. I noticed that a lot of girls were retired but had websites and were doing well from them.

"So I launched samanthasterlyngxxx.com and took a step, not backwards, but sideways maybe. I wanted to see if it was something that I had fun doing. I now do it only with my partner or with girls. I’ve been doing the porn star next door, what I do in my real life, real scenarios of what happens…"

Simultaneously, Samantha works as a nurse. "I keep the two separate. Obviously I don’t go into work with stilletos and a push-up bra. I also don’t do movies in scrubs and face-masks. You can do what you want to do as long as everything is separated."

"I have been recognized here because I grew up here. I just play it off. It hasn’t posed any problems for me."

Samantha stands 5’4" and weighs 115 pounds. She measures 34D-26-34.

Luke: "Does the way you walk scream ‘Porn Star!’?"

Sam: "No. It could if I wanted it to but I take on a different persona at work. I’m responsible for people’s lives. I have people under me and I really take it seriously."

Luke: "I’ve read that you’ve had some bad health problems."

Sam: "A year ago, I went in for some bad pain I was having. It turned out to be an ovarian cist on the right ovary. I had it removed. I have endometriosis. I’m on hormone treatments. I started having pain on the left side. I went back in. I had another cist. When they went in, they found some [cancerous] tissue that needed to be removed from the left ovary. I’m still in recovery."

Her insurance won’t cover her last surgery because it was a pre-existing condition.

Sam says her sex work didn’t lead to her health problems.

Luke: "Your co-workers don’t have an issue that you used to be a porn star?"

Sam: "I don’t think any of them know. I look different than when I made movies."

"Everyone says you can’t turn a ho into a housewife. Well, I’m the perfect example. I cook. I clean. I work."
