I’ve taken a break from my crusade against television to watch on DVD the first six seasons of The Sopranos (partly paid for by Rob Spallone) and the first three seasons of The Wire. I liked and respected The Wire but The Sopranos is hands down more entertaining.
Season Five. First episode. This old Mafiosi got out of the can after 20 years. "You know the biggest change for me? Broads shaving their bushes. I went over to Silvios. It’s like the Girls Scouts."
Entertainment value isnt the only value that matters. Sopranos is good even excellent in parts, but The Wire is brilliant and probably the best drama series ever shown on tv. Its rather complex storytelling might put alot of people off though and does require a certain amount of focus from the viewer.
