In 1959, three films ended the nudist colony device - Russ Meyer's The Immoral Mr. Teas, David Friedman's Adventures of Lucky Pierre and Ted Paramor's Not Tonight, Henry - brought breasts and story to the big screen. Meyer's film was the first, most popular, most raunchy and most profitable but Not Tonight, Henry was the most erotic film of 1955-60 says porn historian Jim Holliday.

Ted Paramore, the son of a major Hollywood screenwriter, began producing erotic loops in 1954. "You were only allowed to shoot girls in bikinis, and then in pasties, then nudes. But you couldn't show pubic hair. These loops were just little stories. No sex."

Ted's first major film Not Tonight, Henry starred comedian Hank Henry and narrator Paul Friese. Frustrated by his wife, Henry dreams about sex with glamorous figures of history such as Cleopatra, Delilah, Pocahontas and Lucrezia Borgia. Along with Mr Teas, Henry illustrates the primary reason for pornography - the human need to fantasize when the real thing isn't either available or satisfying. Generally speaking, at such moments men turn to sexually explicit pictures while women turn to Romance novels.

Ted's first marriage ended quickly in divorce in 1953. Then he married the love of his life - Playboy Playmate Betty Blue in 1957. It lasted until 1963. After living most of the next three decades together, they remarried in 1991. In between Paramore enjoyed about 200 other beauties including Penthouse Pets and porn stars like Veronica Hart.

Harold Lime moved into hardcore with 1977's Desires Within Young Girls, followed by The Ecstasy Girls, Amanda by Night, Centerspread Girls, Society Affairs, and Ecstasy By Night. Reuben Sturman funded these sex films and when the video era started, he offered Harold money to start a porn video company. Harold, to his later regret, turned down the offer and he's never played a major role in the biz since.

Starring Georgina Spelvin, Annette Haven, John Seeman, Bonnie Holiday, Abigail Clayton, Paul Thomas and Sabrina, Desires Within Young Girls offers provocative material. Georgina Spelvin is Madeline Stone, a woman whose husband dies during the opening sex. She decides to get her daughters Penny and Cissy, played by Clair Dia and Annette Haven, out of school and into marriage with rich men.

Ted Paramore aka Harold Lime used big casts and humor suited for adult films, but the best thing about Lime's movies, notes Holliday, is that when they are over, they leave you thinking about the human condition - something rare in porn. Joan Devlon, who also stars in Lacey Bodine, is superb. Holliday says she remains one of the lost San Francisco legends worth discovering. Joan is also known as Giovanina. Desires Within Young Girls was busted in North Carolina solely because of its title.

Untamed, 1978, is a largely unknown erotic triumph which is a cross between a loop-carrier and feature film.

The Ecstasy Girls is the masterpiece collaboration of Harold Lime, David Stone and Robert McCallum. Georgina Spelvin, Jamie Gillis, Serena, Lesllie Bovee, Laurien Dominique, Desiree Cousteau, Nancy Suiter, John Leslie and Paul Thomas star in director McCallum's best comedy.

Coed Fever, 1980, explores fraternities and sororities in a way that Animal House never dared. Robert McCallum directs Annette Haven, Samantha Fox, Serena, Lisa DeLeeuw, Vanessa Del Rio, Jamie Gillis, John Leslie and Ron Jeremy.

Amanda by Night is one of the all time best combinations of sex and story. McCallum cross cuts between nice and nasty sex to point out the difference. The film feels like a TV detective episode with some explicit sex thrown in. The good guys are distinguished from the bad guys from the beginning. Ron Jeremy is a corrupt cop, Jamie Gillis a nasty pimp, Samantha Fox a strung out hooker and Veronica Hart is a high-class hooker. Veteran performer Robert

Bolla gives his best performance as a cynical but sympathetic cop.

Society Affairs, 1982, marks the return of Harry Reems after a seven year absence from X-rated films. He plays the double role of a petty crook and a dim-witted heir in need of sex. The typical glossy production values of Lime and McCallum are mixed with comedy and solid sex. Harry gives a revealing speech about crooks and whores and then there's the split screen confrontation between his two characters.

"I had great times and I thought they'd last forever," says Lime. "Intellectually I knew better, but emotionally I didn't."

Harold produced the 1980s Jane Bond series on video, and in 1989 he began directing bondage flicks for House of Milan. "We think you'll be good at it," they said. I thought, "Oh no. And so I had to talk to people who knew about it so that I'd know what to do. And it was easy. I made sure I had someone on the set who knew what was going on. I didn't know about tying knots.

"I'm now shooting one a week. I'm on a hot streak. But I'd rather not be associated with bondage. Some people don't understand it. Please don't write about it in your book."

Forty years after making the second nudie pic - Not Tonight, Henry, Harold Lime still directs porn.

His best known product of the last decade was the Jane Bond series made with cinematographer Jane Waters whose real name is John Keillor. Kylie Ireland plays Jane Bond's sister in Never Say Never.

In Never Say Never - Again, Kylie's back as Barbara Bond. "Her nemesis is Dr. Never (Jon Dough), possessor of a Spanish-fly-like potion. Dough "Lives and Lets f---" in a searing anal d.p. teaming with Alex Sanders on Brittany O'Connell's helpless ass, and finally meets Ireland head to head." (AVN)

After forty years making sex movies, Harold the hedonist has burned out. "The only movies that get noticed anymore are the ones that have morphing, computers...by guys like Andrew Blake, Michael Ninn... It's all visuals.

"Today people don't care about dialogue or production values. Porn is a dead end. The only changes are going to be bad ones. There is no future in this masturbation industry.

"I've always thought porn boring. When I shot them, I thought they were boring. It's all fake. The girl screams, but she's not getting off.

"I doubt that well-educated people watch porn.

"As soon as videos came in, it ended things for me and for others as well.

"Now you've got to have anal and double anal and triple anal and gangbangs. It's all crap.

"Porn gave sexual freedom a boost. When I was growing up, no one knew anything. Nobody did oral sex. It was dreadful.

"I had four clients [production companies] for my flicks. One has gone completely into blacks. Another has gone under. Another has cut back. But I'm grateful to put out one bondage flick a week. I get paid well.

"I don't know how many people have saved money from this biz. Those actors like Eric Edwards and Jamie Gillis didn't. John Leslie did and so did David Friedman. He's the former head of Adult Film Association. He lives comfortably in Alabama.

"All these guys like Gregory Dark have some inflated ideas that they are going to get into the R-rated business and be successful and have a big career...but none of them make it. They don't have the talent, the connections or the money.

"One of my best friends, Paul Mayer, lives in New York. He produced the soap opera Ryan's Hope for seven years. Phil's father was Edward Mayer who knew my father. They were both bigtime writers. Paul had three daughters. And the youngest daughter, Daisy Mayer made a low-budget $150,000 film called Party Girl. And on the basis of that, she did a pilot for Fox and Fox picked it up for a show. And then she got offered ten million dollars to make a film. Daisy has talent. That's the difference.

"My client is a great merchandiser. I've never seen anyone able to sell the way he does. He says, 'We have to keep up the momentum.' I say, 'That's fine by me.' They're on the low end but I still get paid the same amount of money."

If Harold hadn't fallen into porn, he says he would've been a writer. He wrote an unpublished detective story. His father Edward E. Paramore was a successful screenwriter who helped start the Screenwriter's Guild.

In the '80s, Harold lived with Penthouse Pet Aunnie DeVille. Lime's slept with about 200 women in his life. He had a two-year affair with Veronica Hart in the early '80s.

"As I get older, my standards get higher. If they [women] came knocking on my door, all right. But I'm not interested in investing all the time, and trouble and money to chase.

"When I was younger, I knew a lot of strippers. They were wonderful. They had to have some imagination, some brains. They had to put on a show.

"The pleasures of the world are wonderful. Beautiful women, success, spending money... What good does it do to save money? It's no longer worth anything? I've saved a little money and I've got a nice Social Security. My wife [Betty Blue] is rich. It amuses me because when we got divorced in 1963, I gave her $60,000. And she bought real estate. She's got a house and I live in it. She lives on a nudist camp but she comes in once a month for a few days. She'd like me to come live at this nudist camp but it's not for me.

"We got married for...convenience. When you're my age, that's all you're gonna get, if you're lucky.

"Life after death? There's nothing. Sorry folks. All you people who believe in heaven, you're deluded.

"I remember one time my dad and I took a trip together [in the 1955]. And I said, 'Pop, we have to stop in New Orleans, Nashville' and all these places. And I'd go out and sell pinups. He was so impressed.

"He died in 1956 in a freight elevator accident.

"My mother never knew about my porn work. She died in 1981. We had a "don't ask, don't tell," deal. I told her once that the picture I was doing had a layout in Playboy. She about fainted."

Harold Lime directed 1995's Chug-A-Lug Girls 5. "Kylie Ireland stars as a harried strip bar owner who decides to tease out her house and go into seclusion. Peter North plays the hapless guy who moves in only to discover the press snooping around out front and Kylie hiding out in back.

"With only four sex scenes, you'd figure the filmmakers would find plenty of time to tell a coherent story. Guess again. This video is short, stupid, and sex lite, but then again the cast of pretty girls make up for a lot." (AFW 96D p.107)

Harold made Babes Illustrated 4. "Rebecca Wild runs a "boot camp" for sexy wrestlers, and Sindee Coxx is a TV reporter doing a story on the gals for a news show. Tons of tantalizing sex and gorgeous babes make up for the silly premise, including Sindee and April's shower scene, with lots of great ass shots to float your boat." (AVN 97)

AVN says 1994's Wild & Wicked 4 could be called Hot & Hotter, for that's the way it will leave you. Lime teams up with male filmmaker Jane Waters. Asia Carrera fantasizes she's James Bond and Johnathan Morgan f---s the living daylights out of her. "He pays homage to the animal kingdom by f---ing her spread eagle and doggy style." Alex Sanders does Bunny Blue missionary, doggie and standing doggie. "They're both in great shape, which is obvious with their marathon performance." (AVN 10/94)

Lime and Waters combined again to make Chug-A-Lug Girls. "Cody O'Connor's in a man-conquering competition with her roommates. Alicia Rio gives Johnathan Morgan a shuddering blow job which inspires Cody to suck off Steve Hatcher. Alicia and Lilli Xene lash tongues and grind butts in a double headed dildofest, snagging a little on the side from Peter North. Facials galore!" (AVN 97)

Erotic Appetites. A clique - couples-swapping amongst the decadent yuppie set - makes way for great sex with four different looking women. Amanda Adams gives a great performance in her opening tussle wtih Alex Sanders. "Misty Rain and Jon Dough spice up their poolsie punch-up with intense tit-f---ing and steamy foot action. " (AVN 97) Sanders then does short-skirted maid Vanessa Chase.

Erotic Obsession, 1995, presents believable characters with hot sex in this second-tier sexvid. Jeanna Fine begins her most recent comeback in fine form - doing herself, Felecia and Tony Tedeschi.
