I chat by phone 3/31/03 with Kayla of Kaylacam.com.

She's quick and funny. It's been a while since I've had such a good time interviewing a porn girl.

I've read Kayla's posts on www.gof---yourself.com (GFY). Last week she asked for computer help. My boss Dig420 volunteered to help her. They got together and he recommended she give me an interview.

Kayla: "I've got a documentary team (Story Entertainment out of Toronto) coming Saturday, Sunday, Monday to shoot me for a thing called "Private Parties," a documentary about people in the adult entertainment industry and what they do in their off times. It's for television. It's supposed to be broadcast in 140 countries.

"As soon as I finish with that, I fly out to Miami on April 10th to shoot for Score magazine. You're the first person to know that. I haven't mentioned it on GFY yet. I want to start doing the magazine circuit. It's quick easy money so I can start saving for a down payment on a house. Fifteen hundred dollars for a one-day shoot? Ok. I'm up for that."

Luke: "How long have you had Kaylacam.com. up?"

Kayla: "I started the website www.kayla-marie.com in 1997. Then I closed it in 1999 and someone else took it. I reopened as kaylacam.com in 2001."

Luke: "Why did you close it? Because you got into a relationship?"

Kayla: "I had a wealthy fiance who decided that it was beneath him to have me do that, even though that was how he met me. When I left him, I reopened it."

Luke: "That is so common."

Kayla: "Yes it is. I've had another wealthy man try to move into my life and tell me that once I'm his woman, I won't have to do this. I'm do this because I want to. I nipped that in the bud."

Luke: "Who's the David on your site?"

Kayla: "My boyfriend."

Luke: "So you have a boyfriend and all these suitors?"

Kayla: "I don't have as many suitors anymore. But yes, I have my boyfriend, to whom I'm very faithful. I'm trying to teach him some website stuff. He doesn't know any HTML or graphics or anything. So until I get the time to teach him, it's still a one-woman show."

Luke: "If you're very faithful, who are these guys you seem to be very intimate with in these pictures on your site?"

Kayla: "Some of them are David and some of them are older pictures of an ex-boyfriend. Any guy-girl stuff on there is either my current or my ex or for a while, my ex and I were doing threesomes and foursomes."

Luke: "But right now you're monogamous?"

Kayla: "Very. Though we have a thing where girls for cam don't count."

Luke: "Do you have implants?"

Kayla: "I do."

Luke: "When did you get those?"

Kayla: "January 21, 2000. Then last March [2002], I had a skiing accident and I tore my implant out. So I had them redone last October. It was very painful. I was in surgery for six hours to be reconstructed. When I first had implants, no problem. I was out of bed two days later. This last set, two weeks later they still hurt.

"Before implants, I was a 34B. Now I'm a 38DD."

Luke: "Have you done any videos?"

Kayla: "Just the ones on my site. I don't work for anybody. I've never done professional videos. I know people who have and the amount of pay these girls get for what they have to do is ridiculous. I'm friends with Karina Kurves and she tells me, 'I get $300 per scene and the scene might last from two to eight hours.' You've got to be kidding me. By the time you travel to the set and pay for your HIV testing, you might take home $150. I said to her, why are you doing it? She hasn't shot a scene since then."

Luke: "So you make your living from this?"

Kayla: "This is how I earn my keep. This is all I do."

Luke: "What are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this for a living?"

Kayla: "Advantages? You can't beat the commute. I roll out of bed and I'm at work. I set my own schedule. I only do what I want to do.

"Disadvantages? There are times when you wish you could turn off your cams. I run my cams 24/7. Because I advertise that I run my cams 24/7, I have to have them on 24/7. If something happens and I wish my cams were off, that's too bad. It's only once in a great while that the lack of privacy becomes a big issue.

"I usually run six cams in the house."

Luke: "Has anyone discovered your website that you wish they hadn't?"

Kayla: "I've had a lot of people discover my website that I wish they hadn't. People I went to high school with who think that because I have a cam site I must be horny all the time and I must be horny for anybody who asks."

Luke: "You're not?"

Kayla: "Amazing shock, huh? I'm just a human. Silly me. There's one in particular I went to high school with. Once in a great while, he'll pop up again and hit on me. I'm like, 'Guy, grow up. Just because I have a cam site doesn't mean that I want to do you. I didn't want to do you in high school and I still don't want to do you. Amazing how the last 15-years have changed nothing for you."

Luke: "How old were you when you lost your virginity?"

Kayla: "I was a senior in high school. I was 17."

Luke: "Does your family know about your site?"

Kayla: "Yes. My brother thinks it's cool. He tries to never go there. My sister recently found God. Apparently God was missing. It's a good thing she found him. I'd hate for Him to be lost. Now she's discovered God, she's not as thrilled with it. In the past, she was cool with it. She'd have me give away access to the site to some of her friends. But now that she's Christian, suddenly it's evil."

Luke: "Do you have people send you emails, or in your chat room, try to convert you to Christianity?"

Kayla: "Every once in a while, I'll get an ICQ from somebody. And I'll ICQ them back and let them know that my ICQ number is buried so far into my website that they would've had to dig through my site to find it. So what was their excuse?"

Luke: "And what do they say?"

Kayla: "I usually don't hear back."

Kayla: "My mother and stepfather, who are going to be a layover at LAX tonight, are [Christian] ministers. I figure that if my mother didn't proselytize me the first 27-years of my life when I still talked to her on a regular basis, I don't see how anybody else is going to do so now."

Luke: "Do you talk to them about the site?"

Kayla: "I think my mother's in denial. I told her what I do and she says I'm a programmer. I say no, I'm a cam girl. She says, 'You built your own site. You're a programmer.' She's a little Southern old lady."

Luke: "Were you raised very religious?"

Kayla: "Very."

Luke: "Is this a form of rebellion?"

Kayla: "I don't think so. My mother is very religious. My father was an alcoholic who had mistresses all my life.

"I stumbled into this industry. I was married. My ex-husband beat me one day. I had him removed from my apartment. I was still in the Air Force. He was in the Air Force. After he left, I got stuck with all the bills. All our credit cards were in my name. I started [in 1996] working for [internet cam operation] Virtual Dreams in Las Vegas. I've been doing this ever since.. "The only other hobby I have is an animal rescue organization." Luke: "How many times have you been married?"

Kayla: "Twice. Once for five years and once for nine days. Once I realized the guy was a drug addict, I was out of there.

"I feel so old these days. I'm 32. It's hard to compete. There's always somebody younger and prettier who's willing to do more hardcore than you are. From my end of the industry, it's difficult. On Dig420's end, it's great, because he has all these young skinny pretty 19-year old who are willing to put a candelabra up the ass with the candle still lit. I'm not."

Luke: "Are you willing to combine your two interests, your cam and your animals?"

Kayla: "I hope you are not suggesting something gross."

Luke: "I'm just being silly."

Kayla: "I get that every once in a while from my chatroom and I usually ban people. They get one warning and the second time they bring it up, forget it. I've been known to cancel memberships and refund people's money. You're not welcome here. I don't have much tolerance for that."

Luke: "Do you have many pets?"

Kayla: "Three dogs and a cat in a 650-square foot apartment. The tanning bed takes up a lot of space too. Somebody sent it to me as a gift."

Luke: "Do you have to work out a lot?"

Kayla: "I don't have to. I should. I haven't been."

Luke: "Were you abused as a child?"

Kayla: "I don't want to get into that. It doesn't really affect my cam site. It doesn't affect how I do things.

"Ok, my boyfriend has rehearsal. I've got to get dressed. I've got to cover up my tattoos. My mother gets offended by them. The one on my stomach doesn't bother her too much - it's the sun and the moon. It's the naked woman on my arm and the lesbians on my shoulder that really kinda get to her."

David: "They're not lesbians on your arm. They're comic book characters."

Kayla: "They're comic book lesbians then. I have Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy on my shoulder and they're hugging."

Luke: "What's your boyfriend rehearsing?"

Kayla: "He's doing Taming of the Shrew, Midsummer Night's Dream and Hamlet."

I looked through Kayla's site and found her online diary. Here's her latest entry: "My father is in Kuwait still. He was in a bunker, wearing a gas mask when the bombs were dropped there, so he is safe. *phew* My mother and step-father have a 5 hour lay-over at LAX Monday night. I am going to PROVE my love for David and force myself to go to LAX and introduce David to them. GAH, I hate dealing with them! *sigh* BUT, it IS a good chance for them to meet David without us having to go visit them! LOL Also, that means there is a definite time when this visit HAS to end, they have to catch their flight, after all!"
