Jewel DeNyle Interview
2003-07-18 14:27:28 When Jewel DeNyle entered the industry with her boyfriend Peter North, I was so astounded by her beauty, and intimidated by her strength, I was afraid to approach her. For the next six years, all I could do was take her picture and wave at her. Finally, I mustered the courage to talk to her. Jewel, who's married to Michael Stefano (together for over 40 months), tells me about her current projects. She's produced eight movies already for her company Platinum X Pictures. Jewel: "I've just finished shooting my asian movie, which will be out in August. It's called, Sinful Asians. "I came up with the name Platinum X Pictures and the idea. Then Michael [Stefano] rolled with it." Luke: "What's surprised you in running this company?" Jewel: "I knew it would be a lot of responsibility. That's been the hardest part. I have to set an example, be a role model and a leader of the company." Luke: "There were reports on Gene Ross's site that you and Michael were splitsville?" Jewel: "No. We work together. We live together. I don't know what Gene's talking about." Luke: "How long have you been in the industry now?" Jewel: "Almost six years. Time flies huh? It seems like yesterday I was this new girl, innocent and pure, and now I'm peddling smut." Luke: "Did you anticipate being in the industry this long?" Jewel: "Yes. I didn't get into the business until I had a goal in mind and my goal was to one day own my own company, produce and direct. Everybody looked at me and laughed and saw this bright-eyed, bushy-tailed girl who was full of dreams. They shrugged their shoulders and rolled their eyes. Now they're competing with me. I guess I wasn't as full of s--- as they thought. "I had a goal from the beginning and I stuck to it. I saved all my money from the beginning and I made it happen." Luke: "Do you dance on the road as well?" Jewel: "I did for several years. I'm now retired. What I do now with Platinum X is a fulltime job." Luke: "How much do you choreograph your sex scenes or do you just let your performers do things spontaneously?" Jewel: "I do not choreograph scenes. I will tell them to give me strong sex. Do three vag positions and three or four anal positions. They give me their all because they know that I am a performer and I've been through the trenches. And if anything, they're trying to prove a point to me that they can be a good performer. The only thing I choreograph is the intros in the beginning." Luke: "Why do you think you've lasted so long?" Jewel: "I've learned that a lot of females look up to me because I am in a powerful position. I saved my money. I've done well. I've won all the awards you could think of. I've followed my dreams. I didn't burn myself out. I paced myself. Like any other business, it has to be thought out. You have to have a plan." Jewel has appeared in close to 300 movies in her career. Jewel: "I know some girls who are hitting the 300 mark and they've been in the business a year. What is there to give after that? You better have a plan. You better have saved all your money and you better take it to the next step or you won't last. If you want to last in this industry, you have to find a niche aside from performing. You need to produce, direct, or do a reality thing to do with porn. "I'll shoot a lot and then I'll take a month or two off. I'll go on vacation and come back refreshed and ready to work." Luke: "What do you love and what do you hate about the industry?" Jewel: "I hate the prima donna women who are brand new to the industry that come in asking for a ridiculous amount of money and have attitudes. They try to act like they are big stars when they're not s---. That gets on my nervous. In fact, I will kick the girls right off the set. I don't want to deal with any drama. "The thing I love about the industry is the newer prettier talent. The talent has gotten so much better and nastier. When I first got in the business, if the girl did anal, that was a big thing. Now it's the norm. Girls are doing double-anal and gangbangs like it's nothing. If the girls are getting nastier, it makes it easier for me to get a better performance." Luke: "Why do you think the girls are nastier now?" Jewel: "I think the sex world has opened up. I don't think it is as much taboo. Girls start hitting their teens and they get into wilder type sex because it is more accepted. It is not as dirty and hidden as it used to be." Luke: "How much influence do you have over your movie turning out well or badly?" Jewel: "I have 100% influence on my movie." Luke: "Have you ever made a bad movie?" Jewel: "I've never made a movie that's disappointed me. If I have a scene that's not going well, it goes in the behind the scenes or the DVD extras. I will not put it in the movie. I would rather spend more money and get a better scene. I've only had that happen to me twice. "I looked up to a lot of women in the industry who told me, 'Don't make the same mistakes I did.' They ended up having to do comeback movies. They had no money. They'd partied it all away. I thought, 'Wow, you made everyone else rich off your name and you don't have s---. I refuse to be that kind of an example. If anything, I'm going to be an independent woman who runs a multi-million dollar company.'" Luke: "I often see in anal scenes, the woman start to bleed a lot. I find it disturbing." Jewel: "I'll stop it. If there's blood, I'll stop it because I don't like that. I don't want to see that because that's not sexy. I find it revolting. I've bled in scenes before. I'll stop. Clean up." Luke: "If you're bleeding, will you go back and finish the scene?" Jewel: "Oh yeah, cause all you have to do is clean up. It's a natural thing that's happened to me several times. It's not like a tear or anything. Some girls bleed and some don't. Once you wash it out, it's usually stopped and done and over with. If you've got a girl who's going to continue to bleed, you just don't do any more anal." Luke: "How often have you seen girls get hurt?" Jewel: "Not too often. I've seen girls that have worked too much and might have had an old tear that's just not healing because they're constantly working. You tell them to take a few days off and let it heal." Luke: "If you were made Queen of the industry, what changes would you make?" Jewel: "I'd get rid of all the prima donnas who don't want to f---. I hate that. I hate it when girls come into the industry for the wrong reasons. Go get a real job. You could never make the money you make in one day doing porn flipping burgers. I don't want to hear you bitch. If you don't like what you see, go back to school." Luke: "Do you think there should be mandatory drug testing?" Jewel: "I don't give a s--- about mandatory drug testing. As long as they are not doing it on my set... What they do in their private time, is their business." Luke: "What was your background before you got into the industry?" Jewel: "I was in college for forensic science. I was a gymnast and did telemarketing." Luke: "Have you found your social world shrinking or expanding due to your being a porn star?" Jewel: "My social world has expanded. I have a lot of celebrity friends, which is strange that they've been fans of mine and we became friends. Mainstream celebrities and well known porn stars start to blend after a while. "All my friends from out of state still write me. I send them movies. They're big fans. It's not affected any of my friendships." Luke: "How have you reacted to the way the porno press has treated you?" Jewel: "I haven't had anybody other than Gene Ross be particularly unfair. I just think that when he was at Extreme, he tended to go overboard and probably thought his reign there would never end, so he could say and do whatever he wanted. It bit him in the ass later. I think he's the only one who gives a black eye to this business. I have no respect for him. As for everyone else, I've always been treated with the utmost respect and people respect me because I am not going to put up with their s---. And I'll call them on it. I don't give a s--- who you are. I'm not the type who's going write s--- on the computer and then when I see you, I'll be nice to your face. If I don't like it, you'll know it and I'll tell it to your face." Luke: "Have you ever gotten into a fist fight in the industry?" Jewel: "I don't think anyone's ever wanted to fight me. I dare 'em! I wouldn't want to fight me. I'm mean. I have no fear." Luke: "Were you always like that?" Jewel: "Yes, but I was a kickboxer for four years. I fought in Vegas. I have that natural fighting instinct. I just have no fear. You could be 200-pounds and 6' tall and be a man and if you want to say something to me, I'll go off on you. That happened at CES. I had a big guy come up to me, said something smart-ass, and spilled beer on me. I took his beer and threw it at him. I was screaming at him. "I grew up a tomboy. I played football. I was a roughnut. Horseback riding. I grew up around guys. Maybe that's why I have a guy mentality. Maybe that's why I am in porn. Because I think like a guy. "In high school, I was a jock and a rocker. "I have a personal trainer and I work out five days a week." Luke: "Do you have any moments from your career that you look back on most fondly?" Jewel: "When I won Performer of the Year (2000 at AVN). I'd just left New Sensations. I'd broken up with Peter North. A lot of the people on the New Sensations/Peter North side were trying to tear me down and ruin my career and ruin me. When I won Performer of the Year, it was a big smack in the face to everybody who was trying to f--- with me. "It was mostly Nic Andrews who was trying to trash my career because I walked off the set of his Dark Angels because he was a complete a-------. He was nasty to everybody - the crew, talent. He'd call the porn girls 'whores, bitches and c-----.' I lost it on him. He told me that I was there to make him a star. That was the end. I told him to take my contract and shove it in his a--. "When I started working independently, he tried to blackball me with all the other directors. He tried to ruin my career. Then I turned around and won performer of the year. And where is he now?" Luke: "Isn't he at Digital Playground?" Jewel: "Ah, yeah, ok. And where am I now?" Luke: "You have your own company." Jewel: "Exactly." She laughs. "A lot of people tried to tear me down and now they look at me and say, 'Oh, she wasn't full of s---.' "The darkest point in my career was when I walked off Nic's set and lost my contract with New Sensations. I had a bad reputation because of that. The rumor going around was that I was difficult and awful and don't hire me. I had to prove myself all over again. I started drinking a lot. Then one day I said, 'I better get myself together.' And I did." Jewel says her best friend in the industry is Serenity. Jacklyn Lick and Bisexual Britni are also good friends. Luke: "When strangers ask you what you do for a living, what do you say?" Jewel: "I tell them that I produce and direct adult movies. Almost everybody gets really interested and they want to know more about it. I might have a few jealous girlfriends who get their panties in a wad and start rolling their eyes. F--- them just because they're insecure bitches." Luke: "Has anyone in the industry bounced checks on you?" Jewel: "Only Extreme. I got paid off. I sat in Rob's office for three hours and wouldn't leave until he wrote me a check out of the wrestling account. It was three months overdue." Luke: "How do you feel about the demise of Extreme?" Jewel: "They had it coming. You can only screw people over for so long before it catches up to you. You can only burn so many bridges until there's nothing more to burn except yourself. "Rob [Black] was so blind and so caught up in his wrestling that he didn't see where his money was coming from. He was taking the money that was being made and dumping it into some bulls--- wrestling stuff that didn't work, and screwed over the people that could've made him a legendary company. "They were on top for a while and they screwed it up. He had the wrong attitude and made the wrong choices and screwed the wrong people." 9/12/06 Jewel DeNyle Cuts Ties With Her Mother Jewel replies to the ADT question - have you cried for joy? "Yes when I cut all ties to my mother who looks like a crack whore. I couldn't be happier washing my hands of her and I had tears of joy." Jewel DeNyle Feuding With Her Mother Debbie Schwartz (DeBella)
JRV posts: "I'm sure every girl in porn wishes they got this much support from their family when they decided to start performing."
Jewel responds: "Please do me a favor and pull the trigger bitch." Bipp writes: "I think it is very important that they both get their feelings out there." Jewel writes on ADT:
Let's Stay Positive About Jewel DeNyle's Mom Going Anal De'Bella posts on ADT: "I JUST STARTED DOING ANAL AND DP'S ABOUT A MONTH AGO, I ENJOY THE SCENES AND WILL CONTINUE TO PERFORM AS LONG AS DIRECTORS HIRE ME FOR ANAL AND DP SCENES. KIND REGARDS, DE'BELLA" It's sad when children won't accept and respect their parent's decision to do anal and double penetration on camera. I wish people weren't so judgmental. DeBella posts on ADT: "I have been asked to be on the Jerry Springer Show, What do you think? I'm going to be on The Howard Stern Show Nov. 29th. I am only thinking about going on. But only as De'Bella, not Jewel's Mom. If they would bring it up i will change the subject. This is about me not Jewel. I love her and would never say anything to disrespect her." Bono writes: "To be perfectly honest I wish you wouldn't do it. I've seen that show a few times and it truly is a big circus and it only gets worse depending on the topic. The audience I think is not there for a frank discussion on what ever "issue" Jerry has on tap, no it's to watch grown people do very foolish things so they can laugh. I'm all for you being proud and happy with what you're doing now but I don't think the Jerry Springer show is the place you want to go and promote that, that is if you want a truly honest discussion rather than the 3-Ring circus that show is. I make no judgements beyond that, I'd just hate for you to go on there in good faith and then get totally screwed over by him and the crowd." Pauloh writes: "Go for it. People are too hard on Jerry, it's not his fault that some of his guests behave badly. You can buck that trend. By comporting yourself with dignity, this would be a great chance for you to broaden your exposure and build your fanbase. You have to grab such opportunities when they come along."

1/17/06 Bob Armstrong: Darker Gray’s not in The New York Times The Times’ piece on December 31, “The Graying of the Naughty,” was a triumph for porn PR. And it was a smooth fit for newspaper demographics, readers over 50. De’Bella is the featured player in the story on older women in adult films. “De’Bella’s husband, Larry Schwartz, is fully supportive,” the story notes, and their daughter, Jewell De’Nyle, “started her mother down the same path.” The paper of record leaves its readers with the impression of a happy porn family. Only those in Pornlandia who have followed the blow-by-blow accounts of this family saga know otherwise. On ADT, two months before the Times story ran, Jewell declined an appearance on the Howard Stern show with her mother, reiterating that her mom, “riding my coat tails makes her look plain stupid.” Jewell also went after her father big time, saying “He lost his job in politics that I took the liberty of trying to cover up for him because he slept with his 16-year-old adopted daughter,” Jewell’s step-sister. Now the Times should not be faulted for leaving out a charge of statutory rape. But it does sound credible given the background of De’Bella’s supportive husband which could have been mentioned in the story, and was detailed in the Rocky Mountain News on August 7, 2004. Schwartz served as a Republican from 1995 to 1997 in the Colorado state legislature, was then appointed by the Governor to a seat on the Colorado State Parole Board. In 2001 a therapist told the police Schwartz had molested one of her clients and said two other members of his family had been victimized. The police raided his house, carting off porn mags and video tapes, many of them with pics of Jewell, and 15 comic books alleged to depict children having sex. No charges were ever filed against Schwartz, but he was fired from his job on the Parole Board, and needless to say, it was time for the conservative politician to bolt out of Colorado. So out of a job and sunk in a scandal, where does he go? Porn Valley to set up shop with his wife and daughter. Jewell said she started Platinum X to give both her parents jobs, put all her life savings in the company to “get them back on their feet.” I believe she is telling the truth, but here’s what I don’t understand. Along the way did her parents get control of the company? If so, how did that happen? In effect, did they rip Jewell off? Maybe I missed details on this in trolling the adult web sites. In any case, I’d like the answers to these questions. |
