Bad Ass Models - New Talent Agency

I call owner Frank Prather Sunday afternoon, May 29, 2005.

"I started with some production stuff six months ago," he said. "Prior to that, I was a freelance copywriter and working on comedy writing."

Duke: "What have you loved and hated about the porn business?"

Frank: "I love the industry. It's fun. There's opportunity. I enjoy the social aspects. It's difficult not to be successful in the adult industry. To be outrageously successful, you need to do things in a different way.

"I decided to become an agent at the request of some of the girls I'm friends with. I have an extensive marketing background. I had a mainstream talent and literary agency.

"Agents have a terrible name in this industry, which is self-imposed. A lot of them are not trustworthy. They take advantage of the girls."

Duke: "How has it affected your life spending the last six months in the adult industry?"

Frank: "It's been great. Friends and family are uber-supportive. My mainstream entertainment contacts, particularly at Comedy Central, are enthusiastic."

Frank has eleven girls in his agency. "All the girls I represent are exclusive. I don't do contracts. It's a handshake deal. I'm very selective. I turn down way more girls than I work with. I've talked more girls out of entering the industry than I've signed girls.

"In my agency, the girls are a family. They help each other out. Most of them are friends. They are all friends of mine. There has to be a certain attitude that everyone is willing to work towards the greater good. A girl just comes to me and says, 'This is all about the money,' that's my first red flag. You have to believe this industry is for you, not just the paycheck. The reality is that the money is not what people think it is."

Duke: "How did you get companies to work with you?"

Frank: "I started off building an email list. Then a little press. The girls in the industry with experience have been forthcoming with the contacts. The girls book their work exclusively with me, even if they've worked with the companies before.

"I take girls on the go-sees I can meet people in person and shake a hand. It's been easy. People respect that I look out for my girls much more like an older brother than like an agent. I'm protective of their welfare.

"I do a lot of publicity for the girls. Violet Blue, for example. She now lives in Seattle. She books most of her own work. I act, for the most part, as her publicist. I don't charge her for it.

"As one of my other girls pointed out the other day, 'I have yet to shoot a scene, yet I've received tons of publicity and done interviews and gotten my name out there.'"
