Dion Giarusso Update

I call Dion Wednesday afternoon. "I'm out at one of my jobs," he says. "Laying cement."

Duke: "So you have nothing to do with that new website pornogossip.com?"

Dion: "No. I love to read the damn things. I still miss it. I wish I didn't sign that non-compete. Any time you have a question about me, you can call me. I have nothing to do with porno. I've met with lawyers and my brother's [David Joseph] got me my the balls. And he's not willing to budge. It's amazing. I've tried my hardest. I want to go back. I want to produce. I want to start my own company again. I want no part of Red Light or Platinum."

Duke: "I heard you were coming back."

Dion: "I'd love to come back. A lot of people have approached me. I see Paul Fishbein every day in the gym. He knows I want to come back. My brother is not willing to make a deal with me. I told my brother I'd be willing to forfeit a lot of the money they pay me. They're not willing to do it. I think Vince [Voyeur, head of production at Red Light] has a lot to do with it. Vince is not the greatest guy in the world.

"I'm making money. That's never been my problem. My problem is that I want to get back in the hustle."

Duke: "Were you at the AVN Expo in Las Vegas [in January 2005]?"

Dion: "No. I don't go there. I stay away. I needed a vacation. My brother's doing great and I wish him well. He works his ass off. I just wish he was more considerate of my views. They wouldn't even be in that position if it weren't for me. That was my company."

Duke: "How long is the non-compete?"

Dion: "There's no amount of time attached to it. I can get back in in five years. Five years is bad for someone like me. You lose a lot of your contacts. As you know, the industry is changing every day. Different distributors. Different formats. It would be harder than ever starting a company unless you really had some money behind you and you really knew somebody.

"When I started Red Light, the only people I had to compete with were Anabolic and Evil Angel. I just did what Anabolic was doing but did it better. Now there are million assholes doing the same thing as Red Light is doing. Is anybody making product that much better than anyone else? I don't think so. They're all using the same girls."

Duke: "What do you miss the most about it?"

Dion: "I'm just a guy from the streets. I always liked to hustle. Hustling is my thing. I don't need the money. I just like to make the deal. I don't have to work for the rest of my life. I get a certain income from them. I've got properties. But you have to do something or your mind goes bad.

"I could sit here and watch 20 people pour cement on a foundation. What am I actually doing? I like calling distributors and selling them new product. I like seeing new girls come in.

"But hey, I put myself in this position. I've got no one else to blame but myself. I take responsibility."

Dion Giarusso Returns With Combat Zone

I call him Wednesday afternoon. April 5, 2006.

Dion: "There's more product than ever. It's about pricing and relationships. There's not just a few companies making good stuff. There are a lot of people making good stuff.

"I've been able to resume most of my relationships. I don't think I'll be able to get the numbers I did at Red Light."

Dion created Red Light District and made it a monster gonzo company. Then he had a fight with his brother David Joseph (who was funding the company) in December of 2003 and was forced to leave the business. After two years, David agreed to let Dion return to the industry.

Dion's first title comes out April 24. His directors include Rick Davis, Melissa Lauren, Mr. Pete, Mark Wood, Zach Wilde, Tony Ribas, and Joachim.

Giarusso owns all his own product. He pays the directors a fee and then he can sell the product for what he wants.

"Now I have to compete with many of the guys I created."

Dion's duplicator is FB (Frank Barbarino). Dion has lunch with Dion every Wednesday.

Frank has recovered from his car accident of a couple years ago, but fell down and hurt his neck this past weekend on his boat.
