I stop by World Modeling at 11:20am Tuesday. I see Summer Haze and Craig Valentine. I meet their funder for this swingers series -- Kevin Smith, a big swinger in San Diego. Kevin funds On The Flop Productions, Mystery Productions, and the line Couples Fantasies.

Summer, 41, wears tight black pants and a white shirt. "I'm in my director's mode," she says, "not my talent dress. I think I might like directing more. It's easier."

She's spent 20-years in the business.

Kevin and Craig do paperwork with Jim South for their four days of shooting.

Kevin is slender and bald and of medium height. He's spent three years in porn. For the past twenty years, he's owned a company that provides adult (not porn) vocational education.

Kevin met Craig when Craig worked as talent in a Couples Fantasy scene. Their eyes met across the room and the rest is history.

Summer tells Kevin about me: "Watch out for him. He tries to pry information."

Kevin has an office in Jim South's building.

Kevin tells Jim: "I know nothing. Absolutely nothing."

Jim pulls a shooting permit for Kevin and provides third-party liability insurance (which costs Jim $7,000 a year). That package runs shooters about $300 a day.

Summer tells Craig not to write on a sheet for the talent because nobody will be able to read it.

"I got a degree in robotic engineering," says Craig. "Not in handwriting."

I ask Jim if he slips his card to attractive waitresses.

Jim says no. He did do that when he had a modeling school 30 years ago.

Jim says the only time he has given his World Modeling card out to attractive civilians was when he was with a group of people and he gave the card to the youngest member of the group to give to the woman. Jim Jr will never do such a thing. He's too shy. He won't even go up to people at a porn party.

Jim South Jr doesn't look very shy with his girlfriend Holly Wellin.

Talent such as Calli Cox have asked Jr to carry their picture around at a talent call and show it to the producers. Jr refused. The purpose of these meat markets is for producers to see the talent in the flesh.

In the industry six weeks, Sophie Dee has done about 20 scenes. She returns to England in two weeks.

Rob Spallone joins us for lunch. He says Alex Sanders called him because Christgen Wolf (in porn in 1998) had called looking for Rob.

Rob has rented out some expensive homes in the past to shoot porn. His shooting houses have been surrounded by multi-million dollar homes. Many of their owners were not thrilled to have a porn house next door.

"If I had a two-million dollar house," says Rob, "I wouldn't want people shooting porn next door."

Rob holds forth on the economics of porn shoot to Kevin and Craig. They can barely get a word in edgewise.

Summer Haze is desperate to get an AVN award. She wants to be at least nominated for her directing.

There's a lot of male talent at the casting call who've never done a movie. Among them is Joey Lawford who has relatives in the business. I walk back from lunch with him. Temptation is Joey's cousin. She's been in and out of the industry for years. She used to be the girlfriend of Lee Stone.

Joey says about Rob Spallone: "The man is huge."

In Bill Margold's office, I run into my fave Autumn Bliss (formerly Veronica Bangg and Amber) along with her friend Vivica Charms and three other girls. "I read what you wrote on the internet," Autumn says. "That I look like a druggie. Thanks."

Duke: "I didn't write that."

Bill kvells as the girls help each other change.

Bill: "What breaks my heart most about this one (Autumn Bliss) is that she is someone [Jim] Holliday would've worshipped. She played soccer for ten years. And she loves sunglasses, which is one of Holliday's quirks. It absolutely breaks my heart that Holliday didn't have a chance to meet her."

Duke to Autumn: "I wrote absolutely nothing about you looking like a druggie."

Autumn, mollified: "Ok, good."

Bill: "This is cool these chicks helping each other dress. This is a family event. This is what I believe more than anything else -- that we're a family. We all watch out for each other.

"This is a good room full of children. You should introduce yourselves. Say your names. A happy group of children."

Some of them protest being called kids.

Bill: "I like the kids. They are the future of this business. Without you, we don't exist. I am, however, trying to raise the age to 21-years old to come into this business."

Eighteen-year-old Vivica frowns. She's done five movies in her two weeks in the business. She followed her friend Autumn into porn. Bliss has been working almost every day.

Bill doesn't like that. It's too much. "It's starting at fillet mignon and being reduced to hamburger. I started Seka as hamburger and created fillet mignon, with her help."

"I've been doing a lot of magazines," Autumn explains. "And girl-girl stuff." That's not as hard on the body and the soul.

Bill: "I'm worried because now they shoot up too fast. Because they do everything that comes along and a lot of the stuff is not worthy of their talent. I've given her [Autumn] a place to dance and magnify her glory over a period of time. If it comes too fast, it will overwhelm her and drown her.

"Last year at this time, I was heralding the charms of Pandora Dreams. She was adorable. Now she's gone. Last year at this time, all of us were heralding the talents of Randi Wright. Show me Randi Wright now. We thought Randi Wright was the Second Coming. The woman had everything in the world going for her. She's the oldest 18-year old girl I've met in my life. We thought she was the future. Gone."

Bill's following on the internet the Yankees - Red Sox game pitch-by-pitch.

Bill: "Now we have Autumn Bliss. I hate to put all my eggs in one basket but there aren't any other eggs laying around. I keep hoping every time someone comes up that they will have that spark that can be nurtured into something.

"One day I'm going to have to come up with the last 48 legends. We've got 52 coming out in a stack of cards in May. But where are the other stars going to come from when the industry, 17-years from now, celebrates its 50th anniversary. Year 2022. XXX began in 1972 with Deep Throat. Hopefully you will be here to chronicle it and I will too because I don't get to die until the Detroit Lions win the Super Bowl."

I walk downstairs to Jr. He has everyone sign-in as they enter the building. He started the list at number 48 to make it look more impressive. So far 12 people have arrived. It's 1:20pm. The cattle call doesn't officially begin for another ten minutes.

Someone needs to talk to Jack Gallagher to find out the fate of Holliday's body.

Holliday's last name was something like William Carleson. He came from Scandinavian roots. "He was a Viking. He wanted to be burned up on a ship with a dog at his feet. But that wasn't working.

"I still hurt three months later. I miss him. I particularly miss him right now because here's this game that I won't get a phone call about.

"Holliday was my cosmic brother. A 25-year embattled friendship. I miss the man. When you get 100 phonecalls a week from the guy, you lose track...

"Autumn looks a lot like Serena South, one of his last great angels."

The Yankees win it in the bottom of the ninth on a Derek Jeter homerun.

"This is the first casting call of the year," says Bill sadly. "That means we will probably have one more in July or August and I don't think we'll have any more after that. They're becoming dinosauric in their value. People like to have the girls brought to them. This is the last of the real centers of the universe for the industry. I love it. I liked it a lot more during the early part of last year when Rob [Spallone] was up here. I miss him tremendously. We had a really good time during the first few months of 2004, even with the crazies like Doss and Paolo.

"When Mike and Rob were friends... It was a year ago that we sat in [Mike's house] on a Sunday afternoon and watched The Sopranos. The Sopranos was a microcosm of what Rob's life would become because on The Sopranos, the characters were getting divorced.

"Rob was a real breath of fresh air up here. Talk about one of the livest wires in the history of this business.

"The life of this building is beginning to dissipate slowly. But PAW is still here. It needs money desperately. I put the money we had into the Fred Salaff situation. We don't hear from Salaff. We don't want him to die in Panama."

I talk to escort Tatum Reed. She's done four movies. She's wanted to be a porn star since she was in highschool.

Fiona Rockwell is back. She did about 40 movies four years ago under a different name. She's been going to school.

I meet Scarlet. She works at a whorehouse in Reno, Nevada. She's done two movies. She says the most difficult part of working in the sex industry is working out to stay in shape.

"I've done the good girl thing. I have my college degree [registered nurse]. Now I'm indulging my little wild child. I've worked in a brothel [Wild Horse Ranch] for the past year."

Within the first three months, she'd worked with 500 clients.

She reserves bareback sex for husband. Marriage has its privileges.

Scarlet got her C-cup breast implants after her third child.

I meet newcomer Victoria Lane. When I ask her if I can take her picture, she peppers me with so many questions that I give up. She's nervous and jumpy.

I run into Harley Rains. She entered porn in 1993. She left in 2003, had a baby and got new boob job. They now measure 38DD.

Mark Kismet aka Horny Henry (a tall bloke from Britain) is directing Desperate Housewhores for LFP. He also shoots girls on a sybian machine for CDGirls.com. He says many of the girls have their first orgasm ever. "Many people put the girls on the sybian at full rate and then the girls don't like it. If it's done as a tease, very gently done, we have a 99.9% hit rate of orgasms. Real ones."

Who's going to shoot the Barely Legal series for LFP now that Clive McLean is dead?

Mia Smiles walks in with her boyfriend Chris Cannon. She's asked if she does interracial. "I don't know," she replies. "I don't know many Asian guys in the business."

Jeremy Steele has his own documentary film crew following him around. What's going to be the final product? "I'm making it up as I go along," he says.

Victoria Allure is 19 and 5' tall. She entered porn in January. "The only thing that surprised me is that the sex isn't that good. You have to pretend. I haven't had an orgasm on camera unless I did it myself."

Girls coo over Eden and call her, "Amazon woman."

Jonathan Morgan, a director from Wicked, walks out of the talent call disappointed in the low quality of the women. He is supposed to have said that he did not find anybody to cast.

Quality was not a concern from Summer and Craig. They just wanted warm bodies to throw in their scenes.

Craig Valentine and Summer Haze write Wednesday:

What you could only find a pic of Summer behind Jim South? Get a better one up there. We the final is we hired 59 of the 71 people that showed up.

And luke wait til you see whats planed in the future. Next casting call at world modeling is comming soon. What til ya see what we have planned. You might see it live on tv ya never know.

I Want To Return To Eden

World Modeling talent call. Tuesday afternoon. April 5, 2005.

Eden says her breasts sprouted in third grade. "They're as much of a curse as blessing."

Annie Body: "I had to wait until I bought mine."

Duke: "What keeps you in the industry [after five years]?"

Annie: "I love it. Some of us just belong here."

Duke: "When did you realize that?"

Annie: "Back in kindergarten. I just knew it. I've been in the adult business for many years. When I got to Los Angeles, I said, 'I'm home!'"

Some producer says to Annie: "I'm sorry it didn't work out."

Annie: "Don't worry about it. Make it up to me."

Annie got into trouble in highschool. "I didn't necessarily want to go to class. I got into trouble for smoking. I got into trouble for playing with boys. I got into trouble for playing with girls."

Annie spent one day in a reform school before they kicked her out. "I got into books and learned and got my GED and got back into books and learned some more and did a bit of college and decided school wasn't my thing. But I enjoyed learning. My nose is still in the books. Lately it's been mostly computer stuff. Graphic design [on her site www.anniebody.com] and animation. I do my own html. I was dating someone who did [html] professionally and I learned a lot from them."

Several people ask me if Scott Fayner is really dead (as an April First posting on l-keford.com said). No, it is not true. Scott lives. It was an April Fools posting.

Autumn Bliss gets on the phone with Ed Powers and schedules a scene.

I talk to Saskia Steele, who appears in her late thirties. She's half-American and half-Dutch. She has a strong accent. "I did some mainstream modeling when I was younger. I wanted to challenge myself [through porn]."

She's done about 50 scenes. "It's made me less self-conscious. There's no embarrassment. I'm comfortable being in front of people.

"[Porn] was much easier than I expected. I expected people to be more harsh and not accepting. I know I'm not typical. I'm not 18 and blonde. I found that when you are on set, everyone tries to insure that you have as smooth and good time as possible. I didn't expect everyone to be friendly and polite. I work on commercial sets. I didn't expect a set for pornography to have the same kind of feeling but it does."

Natasha is about 40 years old. She and her husband got into porn when their agricultural pump company got beat out by competition from China. Needing money, they entered porn two months ago.

I'm told that when Ron Jeremy pulled up beside World Modeling, he whined that he couldn't get a parking meter with unused minutes on it. Ron is more careful about saving his money than any porn star I know.

Summer and Craig say they're taking him to a buffet dinner.

I ask Celestia Star why there are so many British porn stars. "Because everyone is so repressed over there," she says. "It's raining all the time. It does something to the libido."

Jackie Brown shows up at 4:30pm, after the casting call had finished.

I have a long chat with Eden, who's about 33yo. She says she's dealt with nothing but nice people in porn. She stands 5'8" barefoot. She laughs. "Guys aren't used to looking at somebody in the eye."

From Louisville, Kentucky, she worked as an interior designer for 11-years before "I had a mid-life crisis. I turned 30 and woke up one day and decided I wanted to do something different. I'd always had this crazy fantasy about being a stripper. It was the ultimate sexual power thing. So that became my goal. I started working on my body and lost a lot of weight. I did an amateur night one night at a strip club and won. They offered me a job. I started working. After three months, I was making three times as much money as I was with my career so I quit the career and started dancing fulltime.

"I ended up coming out to Las Vegas as a tourist. I ended up falling in love [with Vegas]. I figured that if you can be a dancer in Vegas, you must be pretty ok. So I went home, packed up all my stuff, and came to Vegas.

"I have a man. I've been married for 14-years and been with him for 18-years. He loves [Eden working in sex]. He's fascinated by it. What guy wouldn't be? He loves to watch me because it excites him.

"We're not really swingers. He's known that I like girls eversince we started dating [at age 15]. We occasionally like to have fun. Let's leave it at that.

"[Porn] was a fantasy. I was working for a company at the AVN convention [in January 2005]. I was swamped by producers. They followed me into the bathroom. They followed me to my car. I couldn't breathe. There were crazy people wanting to talk to people and have me do stuff. It was overwhelming.

"The next day, my phone was ringing off the hook. I start calling people back. I'd ask for their websites. I wanted to see what quality it was. I consider myself a topnotch girl. I don't do anything that is not the best. I wasn't going to do anything that I'd have second thoughts about.

"I knew somebody who worked here for Jim. I talked to her. I started calling people back. Within a week, I'd done five films in five days."

Eden wears a 38DD bra but her measurements are 42D-30-41. "The hourglass."

Duke: "What are your ambitions?"

Eden: "I want to be famous."

Duke: "How has your time [in the sex industry] affected you?"

Eden: "I don't think it has affected me at all. I'm very smart. I'm very grounded. I'm a very good person. I'm as clean as a whistle. I've never touched a drug. I'm not a drinker. I'm the furthest thing from the stereotype for strippers and porn stars.

"The main thing I've learned is that everybody is so critical of themselves and there's really nothing wrong with you. I'm so hard on myself, yet everybody likes me just the way I am. That's been a nice thing to realize.

"[Sex work] has been good for my self-esteem. Mentally. Emotionally. Yeah."

Duke: "What about your view of men?"

Eden peals off in laughter. "You don't want to go there.

"I told you I have a power trip thing. Women definitely have the power. Men are just too stupid to realize it. Doing this you are exerting that power over a lot of people and they don't even realize it. Sex is such a powerful thing and girls are the ones in control.

"Everybody is weak in ways.

"I have a small group of friends who know what I do. Beyond that, I don't tell people. When people ask me what I do, I still tell them that I am an interior decorator. Nobody raises an eyebrow at that. Sometimes when I tell people I am a stripper, I instantly get bad looks and nasty attitudes."

The inability to tell people honestly what you do for a living is one of the biggest prices paid by those in the sex industry. It isolates you. Your world becomes constricted. When you can't interact honestly with strangers and acquaintances, you become a practiced liar. That exacts a huge price on your soul and psyche. You lose much of what it means to be human -- to interact honestly with others and to put yourself forward into the world openly. To be who you are. Instead, many of us in the sex industry become practiced deceivers.

One of the first questions that the sailers in the Biblical book of Jonah ask the protagonist is -- what do you do for a living? That's typically our opening question with strangers because it tells us more about a person than any other question.

Jonah 1:8

So they asked him, "Tell us, who is responsible for making all this trouble for us? What do you do? Where do you come from? What is your country? From what people are you?"

Eden: "People in general look down on you for it because they think you are the stereotype. You are the whore. You are the druggie. You are the alcoholic. You are doing crack in the back dressing room between dancers. That's not what I am. I don't tell a lot of people about what I do because I don't want the negative feedback that comes with it.

"I haven't told many people at all that I do the porn stuff because you get even worse reaction from that.

"My family knows that I was a dancer. Initially my mom was just furious beyond belief. Her crying and everything that you would think a mom would do. Then, after a while, after I told her I'm not into drugs and I'm not a drinker, I'm not doing anything bad. I'm careful and smart about what I do. Then she realized she didn't have to worry about me. I wasn't going to fall into that dumpster that a lot of girls fall into doing that. I'm smarter than that. I'm better than that. I refuse to let that happen to me.

"After talking to her about, after two years, she came around. She's to the point now where she calls me and says, 'Are you on your way to work? Did you have a good night last night?'

"When I told her how much money I made dancing, she couldn't believe it.

"But doing the porn thing, I don't know if that would go over as well. But maybe eventually. It would still the same scenario. She'll think about all the stereotypes... Eventually she's going to know. It will all hit the fan. The first movie I filmed comes out this week. Somebody is going to see me and eventually my friends and my family will know. We'll deal with it at that point. I know that I haven't done anything wrong. I respect myself. I hope they will do the same."

Duke: "What are you ambitions?"

Eden: "I want to be famous. I want to be known."

Duke: "What would you like to be known for?"

Eden: "For being a beautiful person. Not necessarily just on the outside. You can look at the pictures of all these beautiful girls on the wall and some of them are complete idiots. Some of them are bitches. I would definitely like to be known, not just for what I look like, but for what I am on the inside. And for being good at what I do."

Duke: "Does being a dancer and a porn star help people appreciate what's on your inside?"

Eden: "Sometimes. Initially, most people judge you for the package. They judge the big boobs. Instantly you're an idiot. Whereas I'm probably a whole lot smarter than they are."

Duke: "How do you spend your money?"

Eden: "I want to be debt free. I want to pay off my car, my house, my mom.

"Then I want to do what they do here -- promote people in a healthy and clean way. There's so much money to be made."
