Rumors Wrong

About two weeks ago, Luke received this email: "Word on the street is "Brenda" Sindee Coxx has tested positive at a private clinique in Anaheim hoped you could help me confirm or deny. Also heard Kelly "Kaitlyn" has also test positive at the same place."

This rumor is false, says Sindee. Neither her nor Kaitlyn are HIV positive. Sindee takes regular DNA tests. She does not perform much anymore in front of the camera, instead concentrates her talents on photography for such magazines as Club Confidential, Adam Film World, Hustler Erotic Video Guide, and Oui. October will mark the third year of her relationship with Scott St. James. She plans to begin feature dancing soon.

Latest word on Kaityn is that she works as a park ranger in Tennessee and has broken up with her last boyfriend.

Shane Update

A fan writes: "I went to see her dance at Bob's Classy Lady last night but unfortunately she wasn't there as scheduled. A sign at the box office said that sudden illness forced her to cancel. Well, I went inside anyway cause I had just driven 20 minutes out of my way anyway, why not get a lap dance or two. I learned from one of the strippers that Shane had actually broken her tail bone (*Ouch!*) and hadn't performed Thruday night either (her first scheduled night of shows).

"I don't know how or when this injury occured but my guess is that it happened within the last few days. I was at Bob's last weekend to see Nici Sterling (who told me that she was stripping for the first time in her life, that it was a new thing for her). At that time Shane was still on the schedule to be dancing this weekend."

Pat Riley, tongue in cheek, writes on RAME:

Why do I get the impression there's a concerted effort of spin control operating here (as Rez pointed out, too). Could it be that some leading light in the industry (say Fishbein) got you all together and pointed out "We're all in this together" and "We must diffuse those negative comments on that blasted rame, otherwise they might give some of the lackeys...oops, I mean the stars...the wrong idea. Some of them might actually get the idea we're not doing all we can to help them."

"Kernes, you screwed up big time so you eat humble pie. Give them the idea it's all your fault because you misinterpreted Mitchell's statements."

"S.Andrew, you take the high road. You know: the line about how everyone has a responsibility to take care of themselves. The contract between worker and employer is sacrosanct. Well, it was back in the 1800's. Imply anyone who thinks otherwise is a commie-pinko-liberal."

"Brandy, you're well known on the group. They respect you...er, well, something like that. You tell them how they should not take everything at face value...except pronouncements from AVN, of course. Put it in you own words. Mila is available to assist with any terminology problems."

"Roger, you play up the angle that Brooke might be lying. Imply that you have additional information but don't say what it is."

"Margold, you and Mitchell get that rumor-monger Ford around and make sure you tell him how competent and qualified you and Mitchell are...well, Mitchell anyway...to handle this problem. Have her throw in a few buzzwords that make it sound like she knows what she's doing and don't forget to drag in some irrelevancies about what an asshole Riley is. The guy just has no respect for Holliday, you, Mitchell, the industry...hell, he even calls AVN, the industry advertising magazine."

"MaestroDKS, you tell them what a sterling job Mitchell is doing in spite of great odds. Play up the "feelings" angle. Probably won't do much good because those assholes on rame haven't got any feelings but it's worth a shot. Maybe there's some lurkers."

Bushmiller@aol.cm writes on RAME:

If I might make a comparison...to the wrestling business, another closet business (bear with me here).

Ten years ago before the internet was huge, there was a thing in the wrestling business known as "sheets," detailing, in a nutshell, all the ins and out of the business.

The sheets weren't always accurate (sometimes they were waaaay off and totally wrong) but what were we--the more-than-casual wrestling fan-- to turn to?

The business hated the sheets...but the business read(s) them.

Apply the internet to the mix.

Now the business (begrudgingly) takes many cues from the "insiders" (but they won't admit it.

The porn business is the same way but it's evolving much faster due to the internet. Love it/him or hate it/him, Luke F-rd has legitimized himself in the business.

This is the process as I see it:

* What/who is Internet/Rame/Luke F-rd?

* Internet/Rame/Luke F-rd isn't worth the time

* Internet/Rame/Luke F-rd is annoying

* Internet/Rame/Luke F-rd is bulls---

* Did you see what was said in/by Internet/Rame/Luke F-rd

* I need to get in touch with Internet/Rame/Luke F-rd

If the porn biz (and wresting biz for that matter) had it's way, we'd indiscriminately rent all the s--- they put out there and have no right to voice our opinions.

I'm not a regular AVN reader but I will venture a guess at times it about as journalistically sound as Pro Wrestling Illustrated ("Will Hulk Hogan Return to the Fans-- exclusive [ahem] behind the scenes story inside!!!!!!")

7/17 Update

Rob Spallone has returned from Las Vegas to his Star World office. He had the staples out of his skin Thursday after his apendectomy. Rob says he had a great time at David Sturman's big Sin City bash Friday night at the VSDA.

Steve Austin is shooting for Elegant Angel.

Luke F-rd, Gene Ross and Bill Margold appear on Ed Powers' radio show Sunday morning, from midnight to three AM on FM 97.1 in Los Angeles, KLSX.

Under house arrest, recently HIV positive Kimberly Jade struggles to pay her bills, and she says she's getting no help from PAW (a source told me).

Pat Riley writes on RAME about "DNA fingerprinting" or "DNA sequencing."

"As I understand it the virus mutates so fast that the DNA is almost never the same exact sequence. This is one of the reasons there is doubt over the discoverer of HIV itself. The sequence presented by Gallo matched exactly the sequence from Montainger (however you spell it) leading to charges of scientific fraud.

In my original critique of Kernes' article [7/98 AVN], I posted a quote from Brian Foley of the Los Alamos National Laboratory...:

"Similar to "reasonable doubt" if the strains do match, there is also some doubt in the case where they don't match. Your statement is pretty good, I agree with it. But if only a single sequenceis done from each person, the possibility exists that for example Marc [Wallice] is infected with 2 or 3 very different strains and he only pased one on to the next person and it is not the one that got sequenced. In the Florida dentist cases, Dr. Acer carried two related but different strains and he passed both on to Kimberly Bergalis "patient A" but only one of the two to the other 5 patients (at least we only detected one of the 2 in them).

The other important part of the "Florida dentist case" was the local controls. You have to show not only that the virus from the people in question is related, but that they did not all have a good chance of coming in contact with this "strain" of HIV from other sources. For example, maybe all of the people were IV drug users, and the local strain of HIV found among all IV drug users in the area is nearly identical. In the "Florida dentist case" the local controls all showd differences of about 10-13% from each other wheras patients A, B, C, E and G were 3.4 to 4.9% distant from the dentist. Patients D and F were 13.6 and 10.7% distant from the dentist and were likely not infected by him (Science 256 (22 May 1992) pages 1165-1171). Later a sixth patient was identified as likely to be infected by the dentist." ]
