Another Sharon Mitchell 40th Birthday Party
Following the first day of the AVN Expo Jan 7 many of the lucky attendees enjoyed a wonderful evening as the guests of Sharon Mitchell and AIM Healthcare Foundation at The Spearmint Rhino Gentlemens Club. It was a great fundraising success for Sharon and AIM and a great entertainment event. Tina Toy after working signing in the AIM Booth all day, again led off the evenings entertainment. Tina Toy first performed a martial arts display to "Kung Fu Dancing" in authentic gi and her own black belt. Tina's moves were crisp, powerful, and exciting, her long black hair flying, Tina's exotic beauty and hardbody beyond compare. Tina Toy then demonstrated her dancing skills that have made her the #1 Pole Dancer in the world. The high point of Tina Toy's dancing performance was her feature "Fire Dance" as the flames caressed her tan sexy hardbody, lucky flames. Tina Toy is always exciting and full of suprises. Tina Toy was followed by Nina Hartley and a number of luminaries but many entertainers were unable to gain admission and perform do to the standing room only crowd. You had to be there.
Luke Made The Right Choice In Not Attending The Porno Awards

Or a porno husband/wife duo reminding us that there are more Aids ridden Haitians waiting to get into the country.
On top of all this lower caste behavior we learn the presentations are rigged. I can only think of one word, despicable. I am glad the prestigious l-keford.com name was not involved in this sordid gathering. Luke, you made the correct choice in not attending.

Mike South, AVN Threaten Innocent Extreme Porn Girls?
Gene Ross writes: Paul Fishbein, the man who would form a wrestling league, is off to a good start by apparently having hired teams of goons terrorizing women. It happened at the AEE show in Las Vegas. Extreme contract girl Jessica Darlin is one of those threatened and Carrie Starr is another. Darlin's a relative old pro but Starr has performed in just 45 sex scenes, of which five have been for Extreme Associates. But, according to Mike South, claiming to be speaking on behalf of AVN, those could be Starr's last. Starr and her husband Mr. Kevin, said they were accosted both by South and someone wearing an AVN badge at the AEE show. South, in the current issue of Adult Stars Magazine, slanders Rob Black by stating that Black was somehow implicated in the Israel Gonzalez shooting several years back.
Mr. Kevin tells Gene: "Mike South and someone from AVN came over and told her that she needs to pick who she works for and pick her friends better. She told them what are you talking about. South said, Extreme, that she shouldn't have come with Extreme. Otherwise, she could do all she wanted to do at the show. She told them that AVN hasn't done anything for her. She asked how come AVN hasn't given her any write-ups. Nothing in AVN. Then he told her you need to pick your friends better because we can do an article that can make or break you."
Mike South replies: "Geez...had either of you bothered to contact me I'd have gladly told you the truth. I know Kerri from PST, she hangs in there a lot. I told her she should choose her friends/alliances more carefully. While I was wearing an AVN badge I never claimed to represent the views of AVN nor would I. If I tell you that if you hold a gun to your head and pull the trigger you will die that is NOT a threat. It is advice. What prompted the whole conversation was the fact that I had chatted with Kerri several times on pst AND the fact that she was complaining that she could not get into the AVN awards because she was listed as being with Extreme. I said well, duh, what do you expect? I also advised she look at it from a practical standpoint as to who could do more for her in the long term. While I have no particular beef with Extreme or AVN from a purely political standpoint this is good advice, what she chooses to do with it is up to her. And as to "slandering" Rob Black....Please...Luke you ran all of this way before I did, that rumor has been very persistent over the past couple of years and that is EXACTLY what I said it is RUMOR."

If Fishbein agrees to the conditions set forth, it suggests that 1) current managing editor Mike Ramone might be expendable because Mr. Big has editorial and adult business resources way beyond Ramone's paltry grasp, and Ramone's salary would have to be taken into consideration to do the math to land Mr. Big; 2) Tod Hunter might be the odd man out because Fishbein had already talked to Mr. Big a couple of months ago about replacing Gene Ross who was going to Extreme Associates. Mr. Big turned down that offer because of the anorexic sum of money that Fishbein was offering at the time. But Fishbein has obviously reconsidered some of the financial requirements of Mr. Big, thus setting the table for the Vegas meeting. A third scenario is even more intriguing - one of Fishbein, himself, stepping down from the day-to-day aspects of running AVN and turning the operation over to Mr. Big. Which might even be the most logical of the three situations because Fishbein, in light of the current AVN revelations on the Internet, senses some real howitzers aimed in his direction in the days ahead and would be a likely candidate for a take-the-money-and-run scenario. On another note, inside word has it that there's a lot of discontent right now at AVN judging from the royal screwing some of its employees got at Christmas bonus time. Word has it that Darren Roberts has been shifting blame to the department heads for the yuletide insults."
Connelly is not going to AVN. He's been at Adam Film World for 17 years and is happy there.

Johnathan Silverstein Was Fired From Cybererotica.com
I reported weeks ago that Johnathan Silverstein quit Cybererotica. Now I've heard from a good source who prefers to remain anonymous that Silverstein was fired.
Let's go back to my files.
Julie Winters writes Luke 11/6/00 and I published this the next day. A few hours later, Silverstein announced that he was resigning from Cybererotica, effective immediately. Johnathan Silverstein and Ron Levi both said that this resignation had nothing to do with Julie Winter's letter. Now I've learned from a reliable source that this following letter led to Levi firing Silverstein (both Levi and Silverstein deny this).

Finally time to tell you what is really going on with the RJB shakedown. First, let me say I'm not someone who has a hard-on for them or anyone else in this business, but I do consider myself a top 10 player for sure. I have nothing to gain or lose by telling you this, but unless I do it anonymously I will totally destroy my business relationships with those mentioned below.
Let me start by saying that I don't know every fact, but more than enough to see through all this.
There are several things at play here. One is the that the federal government does not have the power to regulate porn the way they would like to, through legislation, so they had to find another way. There has been an influx of cash into the FTC and other agencies as of late, and with this being an election year, what better timing than to come out with the Top Ten Dot Com Scams a week or so before the elections. If you read the FTC press release and have half a brain, you probably can figure out that the "scams" they uncovered are not even close to the largest scams out there on the net. The feds did a sloppy job and I believe we will see that in the long run. The door is still open though, and there are other agencies, such as the DOJ, poised to attack the adult internet.
Is Visa working with the FTC?
Could be. I know from a very good source that RJB's chargeback rate since 1999 has been under 2.5% overall and that they hardly qualify as a major offender. I have done business with RB and company and know they are light years ahead in customer service, fraud control and business practices. What you see in public is just a hint of the tight ship they run inside. Problem with our industry is not consumer fraud, it's webmasters who take advantage of programs like Max Cash, who end up as much of a victim as the consumer. Every one of us that run such a program knows this to be the hard truth.
So why RJB?
First, they are the biggest. Period. Nothing looks better for the FTC and their Dot Com campaign than going after the biggest. If anything this sends a signal and makes it appear that they are doing something productive. Problem is, they picked the wrong company. The FTC gets a few credit card fraud complaints and they are off to the races with accusations. Again, I know RJB and their principals well enough to know as a fact that the fraud allegations are not only false, but can be literally blown out of the water with proof. The dialer issue is another story. Perhaps they thought that there was full disclosure on this product. Perhaps they took a risk because all they think about is their webmasters which I think they give too much back to. That remains to be seen.
Second, and more importantly, there are competitors that would like nothing more than to see RJB go under. Amazing to think that with enough traffic to go around, the major players all do business together that there should be a happy coexistence, but sometimes that is not true. When you have people like Ron Levy of Cybererotica involved, who's jealousy of RJB has been palpable since day one, the happiness ends. It has been known among the players that Ron despises RB and as is the case with Ron, he never hides it. Anyone that has dealt with him knows that the slightest thing can send him into an angry, nasty frenzy. There is not one person I know that hasn't had a war with him, including his partner Paul who is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. Let's add to the mix that Levy has been quietly fighting with the FTC over several issues, and has been claiming all over the place that he has the FTC's blessings on all his sites. He has a "good relationship with someone in the FTC". He spoke openly at a workshop in May about working with the FTC to keep free memberships and on disclosure issues. He's been in bed with them for some time now trying to stay alive with "free" memberships and what better way to cure your own ills than to point the FTC in another direction? Most important thing to Levy is who has the biggest dick and who is #1 in market share.
I have also been told of a disturbing quote that was relayed to me by 3 different people (who heard it first hand). I would not have believed it except two of the three people are people I would trust with my life. Around May of this year, Jonathan Silverstein, President of Cybererotica (and former crony of Seth Warshevsky) was overheard at an "adult internet function" as saying "RJB has big problems coming and they will never make it through the month of October. Mark my words, I know." It has also been said that "Python is next to go down" was also stated. RJB coincidentally was served Oct 27. Seems many other people that travel in Levy's and Silverstein's circles knew that the FTC was investigating RJB for a "long time" yet from all I have heard, RJB had no clue.
Levy's win at all costs mentality has finally taken him too far. Now he, and other companies have to worry if RJB is going to blow the whistle on all the scams that are apparent in the adult industry, several of which point right back to CE among others. If RJB got consumer complaints, I can't imagine how many Levy has piled up from the double and triple site billing he was doing.
Good luck RJB, though I doubt you will need luck at all.

RJB Telcom Controversy
RB (Rich Botto) writes from the FTC besieged RJB Telcom:
"Look, it's common knowledge that I am not a fan of anonymous letters/posts etc (ask Nick over at Netpond about this), but I have to say that JW's two letters have been about as accurate as anything I have read. At least in regard to the events involving my company.
"Yes, RJB did receive donations to aid with legal fees during this FTC matter. Many of these donations did come from the "mid level" webmaster. In fact, the overall support from the smaller to mid level webmaster community has been overwhelming. When this first came down, I expected that there would be a rally amongst the larger companies...A circle the wagons mentality. That has not happened. We requested public and/or financial support from some and in almost all instances we've been ignored. In fact, many of them have gone the complete opposite direction and pulled traffic from us. People who we vigorously supported during their times of crisis have turned a blind eye. Meanwhile, we feel that we are fighting this battle for the entire industry. To say we have been disappointed would be the understatement of the century. As for the rest...I have no comment."

There have been many of us that have supported RJB during their undeserved crisis, both with kind words and legal fees. I am one of these people. However, I find it odd that there are players larger than I that have not even contributed in any way. It seems that the larger players have gone into a shell, treating RJB like they have some sort of disease. The list of supporters that I have seen and heard about looks like a "who's who" from the mid to small adult companies. I know several people that have very little funds that contributed to RJB's legal defense, while some of the biggest names in the business haven't even offered to help. What is really going on here? Perhaps they feel that they are next on the government's hit list? Maybe they think that RJB is blowing the whistle on their well-known billing scams? I hope they are.

I confirmed this. As I recently stated, Levy not only knew about this action but also is the most likely candidate to have caused this action. Levy has been quietly fighting with the FTC over several issues, and has been claiming all over the place that he has the FTC's blessings on all his sites. He has a "good relationship with someone in the FTC". He spoke openly at a workshop in May about working with the FTC to keep free memberships and on disclosure issues. He's been in bed with them for some time now trying to stay alive with "free" memberships and what better way to cure your own ills than to point the FTC in another direction? Most important thing to Levy is who has the biggest dick and who is #1 in market share.
[Ron responds: "I had no knowledge of this action until everyone else did, I learned it from the Netpond Board. Yes, we're currently working on our own investigation with the FTC. We're in compliance with the FTC's guidelines as per their website. I have no relationship with any person from the FTC. The FTC communicates with our FTC attorney, who then communicates with our Corporate Attorney who then communicates with our in house counsel. I hear what is going on with the FTC from our in house counsel.

Luke, a few hours after I send you my original letter, Silverstein is fired as president of CE. That's right, fired. The "resignation" approach was pure bulls---. It was classic Levy damage control. Someone had to take the fall for Levy's ill-fated plot against RJB and Silverstein's inability to keep his big mouth shut. You don't need to be too brilliant to figure out that not only was my story true, but the fact Silverstein took the fall a few hours later confirms it. Silverstein was at adultdex looking for any small job he could get his hands on. That doesn't seem like the sign of an employee that resigned because he had another job lined up or wanted to move into another industry. Not many people just resign as a president of a company for no reason, with no backup. He was fired for revealing Levy's plan.

Does anyone remember Xpics problems with the FTC? Someone ask David (of Xpics) who he felt was responsible for all of his problems? He swears to this day that Levy deflected the FTC in his direction, coincidentally at a time when Xpics was #1.

I know someone that knows one of the players that attended a dinner at Adultdex recently. JB of CEN was overheard cracking jokes about RJB and stating that they were going down and not going to survive. I tend to know otherwise. I wouldn't be surprised if you hear some very promising news from them regarding the FTC very shortly. I believe RJB will survive this and feel horrible that such a well run, above board business could be so wrongly accused. Perhaps JB should not be cracking jokes and CEN and Levy should not be pointing fingers at others, as their companies are two of the shadiest scammers in the business. Once again, good luck RJB.

As far as me looking to take "any small job I can get my hands on" at Adultdex, that's just laughable! Most people were disappointed with the turnout at Adultdex, but I wasn't! I had meetings with people everyday throughout the show and got some business done - so for me it was a huge success!
On another note, 5 minutes after I posted about my departure from CE, my email box was full with offers AND just for JW's information - between Adultdex and those emails, I ended up with over 40 that I'm reviewing right now! To further that, only a handful were actually job offers - the rest comprised of people that want to retain my services as (A) a Consultant, and (B) people that have offered me equity in their company(s) or (C) full partnerships!

The fact is that RJB was the biggest, and this FTC crackdown is more about CC and debit card fraud than anything else. The dialer charges were thrown in there at the last moment once the Verity International case hit the street. Verity was the company controlling the USA to Madagascar route, which was being used for most of the USA outbound traffic dialer minutes. Verity has since been sued by the FTC, and the case is in court and yet to be decided. This case will largely determine the future of dialers working from the USA. Once the s--- hit the fan with Verity, the FTC saw they had an opening in attacking RJB on the dialer issue.
And they most certainly did. The facts remain: Cybererotica used dialers, from at least 2 different major dialer companies. Alien should get the facts straight and don't simply blame the dialers for this mess. The dialer is an easy scapegoat for the industry's problems. Just read the complaint against RJB, perhaps only 15% of the complaint is dialer related.
One last thing about the dialers. Other countries, such as the major European countries and Japan allow dialers to be used. They are regulated by various governing agencies, (kind of like 900 #'s) and a totally legal and viable form of payment. Obviously, the FTC has no jurisdiction over using foreign dialers on your website. And wait for the Verity case to be resolved before determing that USA dialers are deemed fraud.

These companies were literally located within 8 feet of each other. AVN had their usual assortment of obese men (editorial staff) clogging up their booth and ateries chowing down on free danish that fishidiot provided. At times there fat asses were blocking the pretty models that AVN assembled to front their booth. If Fishbein was able to score with these girls he certainly had a great weekend! Truth be told, Fishbeins' wife is a lot hotter than most of the women he has been accused of f---ing by various internet assholes!
Extreme did their company proud with their brilliantly conceived strategy of getting the crowd to chant, EXTREME RULES, AVN SUCKS!!!! by throwing tee shirts and videos into the crowd. A bunch of eight years old could come up with a better method of drawing attention to one of the most depressing and least visited booths on the convention floor. Imagine Tom Zupko trying to stand up on the ledge of the booth to get people to yell anti Avn insults. If one of the guys from ZZ TOP was pregnant and didn't shower for a month you would have Tom Zupko! What a fat ugly s---! Then there was the fat little Extreme guy with the bleached blond hair who acted like he was a real tough guy...what a pussy. I really did feel bad for Tom Bryon who has talent, used to be a stand up guy, respected, etc...he must have made a deal with the devil to be stuck with Mr. Black and company.
Speaki!ng! of Mr. Black, he was hardly around his booth. Rumor has it that he was afraid of possible collection visits from all the people he owes money too. I wonder if Rob knows his mother was caught talking to Paul Fishbein by the snack bar? Rumor has it that Mrs. Z really hates KING OF ALL HAIRPIECES, MR. GENE ROSS.
Gene seemed quite subdued in his booth staring out at all of the activity taking place at the AVN booth. I kept waiting for one of the fat guys to at least bring him a danish! Gene was so depressed that he limited himself to one incall hooker per day! Apparently Gene has been eating pretty good since he left AVN as gut was approaching "Kerneslike" size.
I hate to think that Extreme used up all their creativety in "EXTREME RULES, AVN SUCKS chant? Christ, we could have storylines featuring girls with toilet seats wrapped around their heads, and words spelled out in semen on their faces! Maybe we could have a six man tag match next year, Paul Fishbein and his parents versus Rob Black and his parents! Since both guys parents are usually at the show maybe this could really work! Slain Wayne could do a run in with a toilet seat and Bryn Pryor could smash him over the head with a cheap computer!
Speaking of Bryn the "Arizona Mafia" was out and about filming various scenes for THE MONEY SHOT or as I would say THE GUARANTEED BOMB. More details about Las Vegas to follow.

YNOT Going Up In Smoke?
Last week Greg Geeland, president of the webmaster resource center YNOTmasters.com, resigned. Now two key employees, Khan and Rose Ann have left.
Kevin Blatt writes on YNOT: I really want to take this time to mention that Andy Edmond has singlehandedly destroyed the best webmaster resource board in the biz, and I feel partially responsible for brokering this deal. If I would have known the heartache and pain this man would cause I would still be happy to be in Diamond Bar working with the likes of Otto, Khan, and RA. Not to mention all of the others who made YNOT what it WAS.

IA 2000 - Best Show Ever

"Tons of celebrities at the Players Ball - Tony Hawk, the professional skateboarder, Keyshawn Johnson, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver, actor Steven Segal, Omar Bizkel, baseball player Mike Piazza... The doormen were crooked, shaking people down to get good tables.
"JoeE was not a popular man last week. A lot of people were upset with him. They won't say why. I think it is GIA related. A lot of people not happy with him going to the boards to talk about Brad Shaw, and the feds coming to the trade show. He hid the whole trade show. Him and RB from RJB Telcom were the most inaccessible people."
John writes: Internext was OK. Floor traffic was decent. As usual, people were there to party first.
JoeE looked like a mope. Totally disheveled. I hear the people in the GIA hit him with a rolled up newspaper for being a bad puppy. He has such a big mouth. Always gets him in trouble.
I totally disagree that RB was inaccessible. I expected him to hide or keep a low profile, but he was everywhere. Saw him on the floor each day, talking to people and giving interviews. He was at the C2K comedy show buying people oxygen shots. I hear he held a big dinner (50+) people the night of his party and I saw him having a blast at Gameworks. I spoke with him and he appeared to be in great spirits. He was thrilled about the success of Razor, his magazine.
Brad Shaw had a cool booth and was his usual self. I hear Elkind and him had a talk. Lots of talk about the future of the industry. Some people are fearing the worst. Others, just wanted to get high.

Where Was Shane?
Mike writes: Where was Shane, formerly of Seymore Butts fame, at the AVN show this year? She was heavily promoted by OGV and Digital Playground to be there signing with Tera Patrick, in fact she was on the Tera Patrick show promoting it. I talked to Tera about Shane's absence at the show, and she said something about "personal commitments" having kept her away. Her jealous rocker husband, perhaps? Paul Fishbein To Start His Own Wrestling League
Esad writes: Luke, My sources inside the pristine walls of AVN have told me that Paul Fishidiot is currently negotiating to start his own wrestling alliance. Over the last several weeks Fishbein has been making serious plans to form a rival west coast wrestling alliance that will hit Rob Black right where it hurts him the most, in his wallet!
Fishbein has a deep love of wrestling and published his own wrestling magazine when he was fourteen years old with his current AVN partner, Stu Franks. Fishbein along with his mentally unstable ex-wife, owned a Japenese Wrestling Video Company called Dusty Woods Entertainment which specialized in Japanese Wrestling.
Fishbein has close contacts with TV Asahi and Fuji Television in Japan who are both extremely interested in the project. Apparently Fishbein has access to top level Japanese Wrestling Talent that will appear for monthly West Coast Wrestlling Tours.
Fishbein’s Bank, City National Bank, thrilled with Fishbein, based on the success of his Internex Trade show business, and AVN have agreed to finance the entire project. Prior to this, Fishbein was seeking private money within his well heeled group of friends and business partners back on the East Coast. Several banker types were on the AVN guest list for the AVN awards show in Las Vegas this past weekend. The whisper around the AVN office is that Fishbein tripled his revenues on this show. It went so well that even Fishbein’s miserable silent partner Stu Franks was caught smiling!
Fishbein over the last six weeks has met with Jim Cornette, who will exclusively book the talent for what will probably be called the IXPW, International Extreme Pro Wrestling. Fishbein is waiting for his slew of attorney’s to legally bless this “Extreme”ly below the belt name! Fishbein also has a long standing friendship Paul Heyman, aka Paulie Dangerously of ECW fame. There is no love lost for XPW from ECW ever since XPW crashed an ECW show many months ago. Heyman and ECW who are cash poor but overflowing in wrestling talent and creativety, are interested in possibly co-promoting their wrestling alliances.
Fishbein who always liked Rob Black prior to whole Gene Ross mess was originally going to offer Rob a piece of this deal. For obvious reasons Fishbein has decided against partnering with Black or anything or anybody that has anything to do with Gene Ross. Unlike some of his other failed business projects, Fishbein will stay strictly on the sidelines of this business and allow true wrestling professionals to run the company. Fishbein will responsible for any porno angles that might be developed in the future.
